Copyright and own art

About next week I will finally upload my first HTML game. Before I do that I want to make sure I am ready and doing everything right.
One of the issues I couldn't find an answer to is copyright.
I am a little concerned, not about my writing (I would be flattered if anyone wanted to steal that) but about the gamecover I commissioned (it's pretty and rather expansive)

Should I take any precautions to protect my work and the art therein? Is it even necessary? Would it be futile even to try?

Thanks guys.

Fun that you ask this on a piracy forum.
In my opinion there is little you can do from the artwork being stolen as soon as you publish your work.
The only thing you can hope for that people see it and immediately know "ahh thats from that persons game", but that is something you will have to work towards to.
From a law perspective you own your work, and have a license to the commissioned artwork (i hope you negotiated a license with the artist), so if you see someone using your work against your will in an unlawful way you could attempt to pursue legal action, but that is probably not worth the effort.
Encrypting game files will not really help, especially since people can just screenshot your artwork, and if your game would be popular people would just find ways to decrypt it.
Watermarks or text on your art is only somewhat effective because some people have it as their hobby to remove watermarks, but you could always try that if you don't mind the artwork being obstructed by it.

Yeah, I see the irony as well :). Rest assured though, I am not build any sort of legal fortress around my work, I just want to make sure I'm not making any newbie mistakes. I intend to share my game for free, the only thing that would annoy is if someone actually tried to make money off of it, but that is very far fetched.
Of course I have a license to the artwork, the artist is a dear friend of mine.
I think putting some text on it is the only precaution I will need.
Thank you so much for the answer, you helped me a lot.

Hope you're not using real porn in your game, otherwise this would be kind of ironic.
No no no, I swear. Besides, this game is about dark she-elves fucking a good chunk of the monster compendium (and each others). To represent something like that with real actresses I would need the same budget of The Rings of Power.

Watermarks and logos where possible is my only suggestion. That way people know who actually made it and might search for you if someone is charging money for your content.
