Updating the review to cover newer content (0.11 through 0.13).
The story is linear, and the few choices are illusory. There is nothing wrong with that, and it makes the story cosy on its face. Nothing particularly unexpected happens, and you're never under the illusion of danger, or that things will go bad for the character. But this invites an unpleasant darkness from the main character, which, at the time of writing this (0.13 EA) isn't great, and makes the difficult to replayable once you see it.
The characters fall into a basic set of tropes (Rachel, Lucy, Sarah, and Annabelle, are the most obvious examples). This is a mixed bag. While the early story (in terms of 'days') is rushed, things start to slow down, and inconsistencies become more visible. The story is still cosy, and internally consistent, but the characters become less important, and internal inconsistencies start to flare. The main story starts to bury the characters, but the fake drama starts to bury the story; it's a vicious loop.
The main story is easy to follow, but it's largely backgrounded. It's easy to read, mostly because there is less there than there ought to be. Sex is used as a vehicle to mark progression in a relationship (you have no control over this, so it feels very forced, given the other issues). The 'male dom' aspects of it may work for people who are happy with it, but it really ruins any potential the story had by effectively forcing the entirely world into a 'main character dominates everyone' pathway, and the world being fine with it (given that it doesn't appear to apply beyond the main character). This is a stark contrast to the way he carried on prior to certain story developments, and it makes the game considerably less 'cosy' than it deserves.
There are still good moments where he shows he cares, and he behaves in a way which are consistent with stated aims, but on the whole the story is pulling itself sharply down into an unhealthy fantasy world. As much as I have previously said good things about it all, the relationships in the game aren't 'dom' relationships, they strike me as increasingly unhealthy.
The story has largely stalled for a few updates. Over those same updates there have been genuine, and positive, moves, with the characters. But, at the same time, the general 'health' of the universe/lore has taken enough of a hit that it all feels so unrealistic, even when only set against itself.
