Others - Completed - Countess in Crimson [v2.1.0] [Digital Seductions]

Strictly speaking, it's 3 out of 5, but I'm giving +1 for at least one logical and straightforward love route, without hidden rocks and quadruple-bottomed pitfalls.

So, why 3 stars:
Game optimisation: horrible, although not a disaster level. The game doesn't show anything fancy, but horribly lags on PC and laptop.
Choices (with this I may be wrong as I didn't try every and each scene in the game), a choice to watch or skip a sex scene doesn't matter for the story. It's the character parameters that define the story and small flavours.
User Interface: the rule of three clicks defining a good UI is not followed, and clicking gets tiresome pretty fast.
Scene presentation: you have an option to avoid futa-on-female or even to evade a female jumping on the characters dick, but you mandatorily watch an introduction to a scene with a fat ugly wrinkled naked man.
Characters: to be honest, I confused the faces of wife-in-heat, the countess, and the evil maid. They are black-haired without any peculiarities (except for tentacles and talons).
Storytelling manner: by the end you're getting a wall of text with the explanations. Trite and booooooring.
Story: although it's my favourite genre and filled mostly with women, it doesn't hold up.
No True End or Secret Ending (or is it there?)

Digital Seductions make original high production value games but the plot and characters fall a bit short everytime, it is the same in this game too. Visual quality and polish is one of the best but it is rather short and nonsensical in every aspect of writing. So can't say it is even good if you value novel side of things too much but it is very good in visual department so download accordingly.

I'm giving it five stars a bit in advance.

It's a pretty game, with stunning graphics. It's very climatic, a fairytale style but a dark Gothic fairytale. It's more art than porn if you ask me but you'll still find there a lot of erotic scenes with different fetishes included.

It's a classical point and click game but don't be afraid, it's really easy. You shouldn't get stuck in any moment. You even get some big tutorials explaining the game mechanics but you probably won't need them as it's quite simple as I said.

My problem with it was that it's really short and felt somehow unfinished and half-baked. You can complete it in under one hour. And at moments it feels like it was going to be bigger, with more story, subplots and content.

While short in gameplay time, it actually quite huge in terms of gigabytes. There is a compressed version but it seems broken and unplayable, at least that was my case.

Despite these things, the game is definitely worth playing. Check it out.

- H-scene animations are too slow in my opinion and there's no speed up button. Some scenes are a bit short. If there was a speed up, I would happily give this game a 5/5
- Unlocked costumes don't get applied to H-scenes
- Game is short. Would have liked to see a longer story with more H-scenes
- Relatively large file size for the amount of content
- Intro and Chapter screens take too long to play out. Fortunately you can hit Esc to skip them
- Would be nice if there were more than 9 save slots. 36 would have been preferable
- Panning the screen left or right feels slow. Would be nice if you can pan left or right with arrow keys

Conclusion
Excellent game! Would definitely recommend if you're into dominant, dark, evil, busty women. Gameplay is solid and the story has multiple endings.

Short game, but I appreciate what it tries to do.

The scenes and models are absolutely gorgeous and even the "static" images in the gallery have minor "ambient animation.

The story is intriguing and has a decent enough flow. That said, the story branches being based on a pair of meters (one a binary scale and one quota based) feels like a bit of a cop-out (as opposed to being based on specific choices), though I suppose that does offer more flexibility in one's choices along the way (being the result of a sum total instead of hard breakpoints). The replayability of unlocking all the scenes also feels a bit forced and stifled by the attribute system.

On the whole I enjoyed it, though personal preference, I wish it leaned a little harder into the NTR aspects.

I bought the game on a discount about a month ago, and I thought I'd share my bit here (played it before patch 0.8.17):

Countess in Crimson is a gothic horror story, broken in small acts, featuring adventure gameplay more than typical ren'py visual novel stuff. Basically your wife is getting hypnotized/kidnapped by a succubus, and you have to rescue her, while getting gaslighted via lying locals and hypnotization yourself.

Flows

• Lovely gothic atmosphere. Not "the" most anxiety-inducing you can get, but still a good effort.
• Adventure-style gameplay, mostly consisting of inventory puzzles. Frankly it could use a lot more of it.
• Related to the above: The game has heavy mystery doses, with one of the side-quests being helping a dude with amnesia remembering who he is, no sex involved. Kudos.
• An OK variety of babes. You have your girlfriend, the countess, her head-servant, the librarian and the innkeeper, from the ones that have scenes (with routes for 4 of them).
• Very respectable 3d animations for h-scenes. Each route also ends with a pure sex h-scene that actually has a mini-game, which you need to succeed in order to unlock the whole gallery.

Flaws

• My relatively high-specs laptop did struggle a bit while running it at full-screen. It could use more optimization.
• The game "does" suffer a bit from the adventure-game logic, where problems have very specific (seldom absurd) solutions despite you being able to imagine many ways to solve them. There are "some" dialogue prompts which excuse why item "X" can't be used to solve problem "Y", but frankly it could use a lot more of them.
• The routes are not exactly clear, with your options having unpredictable consequences. (since the game has gothic-horror flavor this is not big of a problem, it will only get annoying after a few playthroughs, when you want to follow any routes you've missed and are wondering how the f@ck to do that).
• The twist, while unexpected, is pretty indifferent. As in, there was no foreshadowing that the player would feel responsible for missing without context.
• Futanari option needs enabling. I don't like futanari either, but shame on the developers for caving in to the crybabies. The opposite should be the option.
• The models look like they've gone through an oil bath. It is a bit distracting, though by no means a deal-breaker.
• Interactions with the knocked up girl are limited to a single dialogue. A shame, because both the potential preggo kink and her mysterious background/role are intriguing.

The game gets a thumbs up for playing, just don't expect to be blown away by it. If you are thinking of buying it, get it on discount and you won't regret it.

Countess in Crimson is a good game but has some rough around the edges much like Cockwork did before. First of, it's a short game, for good and ill. Means the story is complete and dense but also it advances very quickly and doesn't leave much to build-up. Same goes with gameplay, we get three tutorials for three game systems that, in the end, don't actually matter that much and thus gameplay feels lackluster. It does capture some erotic/horror tones quite well though.

Graphics and general quality of the game are very high, with a lot of small animations in scenery and such. Sex animations are well done but are unfortunately based on very short loops and are very few and uncommon and end up feeling like not enough was done, again much like Cocwork. I didn't face no bugs on my playthrough which is good.

So, all in all, could have been a great game, it just ends up being somewhere between decent and good. I'm giving it the four stars a bit on the optimistic side, it could have gone to three just as easily.

This game is fantastic! the first game with the black protag was amazing too! This MC i s weaker in my opinion! But that is my only problem, still 5/5. i wish the protag was more like the protag from the first game 6/5 but still amazing!

Their previous title was far more creative, handled better, and better overall.

This though still has the slowness effect from the engine, beautiful graphics, and attempt to have a mystery.

Its too short and requires multiple plays with a lot of unknown little things too do and have too be committed 100% to or else get a random ending.

Gameplay and engine with a weak MC (from game looks-personality) and hard too get a ending you want that abruptly happens just makes this a skip imo... If the animations were better then 1-2sec loop and minimal amount then I would say good for a gallery fap but its not.

Sorry for messy review tired and just finished it and felt disappointed and time waisted (especially since I felt same with another game just before).

Graphics Art and Setting made it really enjoyable just like cockwork indsutries from the same developer. worth a look and its not really that spooky. sure wished my fav girl Eva had some more scenes but overall theres a lot of scenes

The game is a type of very simple point and click adventure game. Can't say the puzzles are challenging and usually it will kind of spoon feed you with what you have to do.
The setting and visuals of the game is stunning and pleasing to watch and play in, when starting the game you will feel this is a high production game.

The story is not that interesting because the overall direction of the game seem to be pretty obvious with some plot twists that you shouldn't care about too much. Though the game makes a good job making you wonder what is going on at the beginning.

Overall it is a short game (couple of hours) and really good visuals though not enough H scenes, with replayability potential due to different possible endings, which I didn't find alluring enough to play again to get them.

Really great quality game.
In my opinion this is the best game in its genre. There was a single game launch crash issue at the start of the story, but downgrading the particle graphics helped fix it. The story is interesting, but I still don't understand why the main characters left the car in the middle of the road. They could wait 20-30 minutes for help and the story would end there. The graphics are all right as well as the quality of the scenes. For 4 endings and a lot of answer choices, you can't rate it lower.

--- Visual Experience: 11/10 ---

The renders and 3D models in the game are probably of the highest quality among dozens of 3D visual novels I've played. They are simply astonishing. It doesn't take long to complete the game, and there aren't a lot of scenes, but each scene is extremely detailed and refined. I can see an insane amount of effort behind every single scene (both sexual and nonsexual ones), every single character model. It's like the game takes the best screenshots for you. I've never seen such craftsmanship in any other game.

Personally, all girl models are breathtakingly attractive to me, which happens extremely rarely among over a hundred games I've tried on this site. Their apparels are especially elegantly designed; the amount of attention to detail dazzled me.

The sex scenes are also incredibly arousing; even if the animations are not as well-crafted as the artwork, but they are at least very smooth and enjoyable.

I never wrote so many words so unreservedly praising visual experience in a review. I did so this time because this game deserves it.


--- Audio Experience: 8/10 ---

Almost forgot to mention that audio experience is quite good, too. Served its purposed and fit in the atmosphere. I love the moaning voices, which are pretty erotic and enjoyable, unlike a lot of games with horrible moaning sound effect that I decided it's best to turn it off.


--- Storytelling: 7/10 ---

Unlike the artwork, the main story unfortunately has nothing spectacular; just a common cultist story with a touch of Lovecraftian vibe. It's short (can be completed within an hour, provided you didn't spend too much time on the sex scenes lol), and it twists and ends abruptly, like what remained in your memory after you watched a movie with 8x fast forward speed.

The plot by itself is probably five out of ten. The reason I gave it seven is simply because the world building is quite immersive; the dialogs are actually pretty decently written. Each character actually talks in a way they are supposed to, which is pretty basic in the writing criteria but I can't believe how great a portion of self-acclaimed "visual novels" failed miserably in accomplishing this. Even though the core story is mediocre, the impressive presentation of the story actually made up for it.


--- Gameplay: 5/10 ---

Pretty straight-forward point-and-click. There're just not really enough stuff to click that matters. Interactions are very limited. The game tells you, in theory, that you could combine two items to craft something new, but in the real playthrough you only get to do this TWICE, to make ONE resulted item.

What's good is that at least dialog choices determine some stats, which will primarily result in different endings, plus some dialog differences and sex scene unlocks. This part of design is also applied at a very basic level. Just, like, BASIC. Nothing wrong and not enough application here to be worth talking about. But well, at least it served its purpose fair and square.

The minigame during Master Sex Scenes is an absolute garbage. Thankfully the dev knows they are bad at this and provides an option to ignore it.


--- Conclusion ---

I recommend this game with 5 stars, because the dev is apparently humble enough to be fully aware of their own strengths and weaknesses. They provided a pretty nice gallery (in the latest update 0.8.12 the gallery is further improved) to show their magnificent artwork, and they minimized everything they are not that good with, and tried their best to improve the overall quality of life.

And resulted in such a game, with must-play pros and limited cons.

Still, I hope there's a longer story, more side quests, more interactions and more branchings. But nothing is perfect, I guess.

This is only 3 stars for two reasons. The graphics are gorgeous, and the writing is surprisingly decent.

Everything else is terrible. Absolutely everything. From gameplay to the sex scenes, they're all found horribly lacking. Since this is a porn game, that deserves coverage first.

Each sex scene's only quality comes from the female models and the overall fantastic graphics. The bodies look, for the most part, fantastic, going as far as to have glistening wetness within folds that almost never see any kind of detail. Outside of that, the animations are very, very basic. The sex scenes are composed of very basic and simple loops of about 2 seconds that just loop forever, and though they look to be quite involved at a glance, very little is ever happening. The breasts jiggle relentlessly and very impossibly, and bodies just kind of gyrate painlessly, all making for the look that far more is happening than really is. Worse than that is the absolute lack of a climax sequence, as like I just stated, these are very basic loops. When you progress the scene, it just cuts to a still image of either some fluids on their body, or just them posing. The sex scenes are barebones and lackluster, leaving much to be had.

The male models look absolutely terrible whenever their faces actually emote, but they're just there otherwise.

The gameplay is the next point of contention for this overall poor game. It's a horribly linear and boring point and click game where your "choices" are less about you, and more about who you want to bone with slightly extra scenes. You MUST commit to a route if you want to get more than 1 or 2 extra "mastery" scenes, which are unlocked by having high enough character points in certain categories. This is an incredibly stale game where you just click through 4 areas, 1 of which is only used once until the final chapter, and try to find your objective. Side missions are little tid bits of lore and not much else.

This game is just boring and astoundingly lacking in the erotic section thanks to its basic and exaggerated animated loops. Great graphics are sadly, even in porn games, the same throughout the gaming industry. All pomp and no delivery.

Everything about this is what I look for in the genre. Amazing renders, great scenes. The slight click and play elements to explore the environment are fun, but don't bog down the player. The story is fun, and helps move you along to the next scene. Very impressed by this, and can't wait to see their next project.

I really enjoyed this dev's last game, and I really liked what I saw in the demo version of this game. Gfx and anims are actually a little worse than the other one. Some of the anims are too robotic/awkward and lighting effects are overdone in a few cases.

Story is okay, even interesting. Does its job while leaving ample room for the porno. I hoped they'd improve the UI, gallery and save systems of their previous game, but they haven't. Still, those aren't too big of an issue, so I'll deduct -1 star for that.

Digital Seductions' art is always supreme, although the sex scenes in this game is kind of let me down because you can interact much like Cockwork Industries. Anyway, the art work is too hot and ofcourse this game worth my 5 stars. Hottest girl imo is Eva heh

Amazing art, amazing characters, great music, this should serve as an example for any game developers here, you don't need millions of lines of dialogue to make an interesting story.

Though this is not a very original story, the art, the characters, the fast plot development without hundreds of pointless lines of text and the music all work together to create an immersive experience. Instead of skipping the dialogues to get to the sex part I actually found myself interested in what the characters have to say, also helps that a lot of the stats that unlock sexy times are built up by dialogue.

Unfortunately the sex scenes, despite being very hot, high-quality and well animated, are a bit too short for my liking, hence 4 out of 5 stars.

I'll call it average but it's borderline on that. It has some great renders and decent scenes but nothing industry changing, the game engine didn't exactly leave me impressed with the play experience, then toss in you'd probably need multiple play throughs to see everything but it's just not that smooth of a game, it's not bad and if you liked their last game you'll probably like this one but it certainly didn't make my top list.
