Unity - Completed - Cyan Brain [v1.1.3] [NEKOUJI STUDIO]

Well-realized atmosphere (it managed to make me jump just with my character's shadow at some point) but it would be nice if the ratio of sex to gore would be at least similar to Sinisistar. Or better, like Anthophobia. Here it's mostly "get chopped up". Also, the enemies are used in a very repetitive way, five in succession running straight at you in a hallway, dark or lit, and the level design is rather boring and devoid of surprises.

By the way if anybody is afraid of the crack or doesn't want to set exclusions in his antivirus, I managed to run the game in Windows Sandbox (free VM that comes with Windows). Once you have opened a new sandbox:
    - Install Visual Studio 2015-2022 redistributable (search for it in Microsoft's site)
    - Run Cyan Brain
Your antivirus won't bother you since it doesn't see what's going on inside the virtual machine.
This is much safer than just running the game in your normal Windows environment, but since the the sandbox has network access, I believe that if the game contained a virus it would in theory be able to attack other devices on your network if they have vulnerabilities - not sure if Windows Sandbox has any limitations in that regard. You could always cut network access from within the sandbox with Windows Firewall I guess.
Be aware that when you close Windows Sandbox all files inside are deleted. So if you don't finish the game in one sitting, copy your save outside (it's in %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\NEKOUJI STUDIO) and next time you have to begin the process from zero and put back your save in the proper folder to resume playing.

I also tested with Sandboxie but sadly, it doesn't seem to work (and there, you have to fight your antivirus). Do share if you managed to do it. Otherwise there's always the option of a proper savable virtual machine like VirtualBox I suppose, though the initial setup is more involved.

If you approach it as a horror game rather than focusing on the hentai angle, it’s fantastic at building tension and atmosphere. However, whoever wrote the description seriously undersold it — that shameful display needs a rewrite.

By screenshots this might look good, but don’t be fooled ! it’s painfully boring.

Every level feels copy pasted. Endless corridors stuffed with about fifty enemies, almost all behaving the same way. There’s no challenge, just hold W, shoot, step back, repeat. That’s the entire gameplay loop.

If you can simply jump or roll past every enemy you know it's already bad game.

Save yourself the time and the brain cells (hehe, got it?) Skip this one!!

This review is based on release 1.00, the initial version of the released game.

    Performance: 4/5
    - First off, the controls and overall performance of the game are decent. Controls are fluid enough without the 'jank' smaller games tend to have, and I was able to get through the game with minimal stuttering.
    - Occasional bugs leave you falling through elevators, but otherwise not too bad.

    Visuals and Sound design: 4/5
    - Visuals are peak. The visuals of the background and map in particular go above and beyond the average quality of H games in general. Characters and enemies are also well drawn and animated.
    - Sound design is decent, and the voice acting for the characters are very good. Shame this isn't exactly a dialogue-heavy game, but for what's in there I have no complaints.
    - The overall sci-fi atmosphere is very engaging, with actual effort put into smaller details around the game.

    Gameplay: 3/5
    - Gameplay-wise, the game is straightforward and challenging but gets old quickly. From level 3 onwards normal enemies become bullet sponges, often taking a full 2-3 clips (base pistol) to kill. Attempting to deal with multiple of these at once spells certain doom, meaning that you're forced to slowly edge forward until an enemy appears, back off while emptying your clip on the enemy until it dies, then rinse and repeat. It becomes tedious very quickly, especially in the long corridor segments where the same enemy is thrown at you 5-6 times in a row.
    - Weapons are barely distinguishable function-wise (except for rifles and shotguns) and there are no special attacks / bombs etc to change up the static flow of combat.
    - Platforming is reasonably decent, and often more engaging than the aforementioned combat.
    - Upgrade system is lackluster. Most of it enhances your survivability, but does nothing to reduce the grindy nature of the combat. Would have benefitted from damage upgrades or unlockable skills.
    - Escaping through doors while enemies are still around in the room will leave those enemies camping the doors until you return. Attempting to return to that room will result in unavoidable damage, and a likely death.

    H Content: 2/5
    - The adult content in the game is very narrowly focused on guro and futa. Do you like those tags? If so, good for you. If not, have fun with the 2 scenes where the MC is pounded with a mechanic dildo, because that's all you're getting here.
    - 2 animated cutscenes of MC having intercourse with other characters. Both are futa, and while the quality itself is not bad, the amount of content related to the story is honestly very underwhelming.

Overall, I think it was decent as an action shooter game, but not so much as an H game. Worth a play, but if you're looking for H content you're likely to be disappointed.

This is a review for the newly released full version of the game, not the current demo version that is on this site.

If you're into guro, you might enjoy this game. If you're here for the sex and not the guro, you should probably skip this game. Personally, I am not into guro, but that should not affect the rating.

    Art:
The art and animations are really good.

    Story:
The story is about as bad as most other h-games. I don't see what the other reviews are talking about. The story is mostly just exposition dumps. The story is passable because there is not much of it, but it is by no means good.

    Gameplay and Level Design:
This is what makes me bump down the rating from 5 stars to 4 stars. The gameplay and level design sucks. It is so bad. It is still ok compared to many other h-games, but that isn't saying much.

Here is what you will do for 90% of every single chapter: You will enter a long straight hallway. You walk down the hallway. An enemy enters the screen. You walk backwards while shooting the enemy. Then continue down the hallway till you encounter the next enemy. Repeat this for 20+ minutes and you will have completed the level.

The gameplay is tedious, repetitive, easy, and boring. It feels like a chore. The level design is completely lacking in creativity. If these long hallways filled with copy pasted enemies just got reduced by like, 80%, then the game would be fine. But this arbitrary padding to make the game last longer made the game such a slog to get through.

    Bugs:
If you read some of the older reviews and comments, you will see people complain about critical bugs. I only encountered a few minor bugs during my playthrough. It seems that most major bugs got fixed for the full release.

    Conclusion:
If you're into guro, then this game will probably be worth it. If you're not into guro but you can look past it for the h-scenes, then this game is probably a skip. For reference, I have enjoyed many other games with guro, e.g. Night of Revenge, Sinisistar, Sinistar 2. But this game just has wayyy more guro than actual h-content which made me not enjoy it.

I'm personally very disappointed by this since the demo had more even distribution between h-content and guro. The vast majority of scenes added in the full release are just guro. But again, this should not affect my review so I'll still leave it at 4 stars where it was just the boring repetitive gameplay that bumps it down from 5 to 4.

Cyan Brain isn't just a H-game, it's got story and substance to it. I came in expecting to cum, instead I left with some tears. Though the hentai aspect isn't as strong as some would like, the game has purpose beyond that. Be prepared for anything.

If you're looking to just enjoy the hentai this might not be the game for you, but if you like industrial sci-fi horror (signalis) with some guro and action, this is your game.

I will start by saying that this game might be .... Nooo ..... IT IS THE BEST vore game with ACTUAL GAMEPLAY . This game mix Vore/side scroller with a quite good story at it's finest . At first you might be surprised by how the game can be THAT creative with it's level design and enemy variety . The Bosses are well made , the death animations are some of the best I ever saw .
People are saying that the game is hard ? (somehow) I personally din't feel like it . Sure sometimes it was challenging but compared to REAL HARD games it's really nothing .
This game is one of those RARE GEMS that you will only found Once and never encounter any other game like this . You should REALLY look into this and support the dev.

This is both .5 and 5.
.5 for being very awful at being a eroge but has has token H.... kinda as the retarded as fuck stupid counterintuitive lose to see anything shit. That it is "H" is very debatable. For example the small creature putting in parasites ain't sex even if it is thrusting in the vagina. if the spawn eat or whatever their way out... yeah that ain't sex at all just coincidentally going into a available orifice.
Awful game for F95 but not as awful as "no sexual content" games on F95.

5 as a game. It is much as I hate to say it is top notch considering it is ugh 2D sidescroller. Don't like it but unlike others I can separate that from a review. Art is stellar. Movement fluid without the jank (as in limbs pasted over a torso and moving kind of thing). Static standing is stellar as well. Sounds all fit in perfectly. The lighting is sadly fucking amazing! Shadows move by where the flashlight is. Far more dynamic light then what one typically ever sees in such games. No bugs far as I can tell.

From here it is more a ranty side note
Now as far another part of the game..... hate guro but overall as a incredibly bad totally shitty kinda strawman of a argument :HideThePain: Compared to god awful fucking disgusting rancid trash like MK that is more guro then pretty much everyfuckingdamn game on here and less fighting game then ever..... compared to that and other trash that should be banned for being more snuff then any cartel/terrorist videos I've ever seen :HideThePain: yeah.... by that this is ..... nothing really. and it bugs the shit out of me that tame snuff videos and films are illegal but awful garbage in 4k like MK and stuff are not. Anyway point is it is tame as can be. Only difference is the violence is not on full blast drowning you. The death is just zoomed in at the forefront and nothing else happens on screen. Kinda like anime action lines bring something into focus. So if looking for a game then you will get one here and don't bother putting attention with the supposed gore (for now at least) that the game has

PS felt torn with it being awful H game but a solid game with a respectable amount of effort in it, so I settled on a three rating

amazing art, interesting world building, decent sound design, can't wait for more. gameplay is about 1-3 hrs long at current stage (chapter 2).
too much gore for my likely, wish it would expand the base interaction a bit and add some more npc to interact with. the world is a bit lonely right now.

I see some reviewers below whining about the game containing gore. Well, before getting into the game, it's not that hard to understand that the game is of the guro genre. These reviewers assume that just because they don't like guro, no one does. Well, onto the actual review:
    Pros:
    -Great artstyle and animation
    -Good environment and sound design
    -Sexy MC
    -Interesting storyline
-Death animations are great and distinct. It's not just decapitation every time you die, there's impalement, disembolweling, dismemberment, and more.
-There are H scenes as well, which are well done with great sound design. I love that the devs tied the H-scenes with deathly motives(injecting toxins that cause a painful, eventual death).
    Cons:
-The gameplay loop gets a bit boring and repetitive
    -Some enemies are bullet sponges
    -Not enough savepoints
It's crucial to remember that its still a demo, and these cons might be dealt with when development is completed.
If you're into ryona, guro and hentai, then this game is for you!
I sincerely hope the devs complete the game

Just like Alien Quest Eve, just like Satya's Bad Day, this will be a 5/5 masterpiece, but currently there's a few rough edges.

First, the save system instantly overwrites the save, no multiple saves, so if you accidentally teleport to the home base, well you are replaying half the level, very annoying.

Second, half of the game over scenes are just a brutal gruesome death, Mortal-Kombat style, so this looks kinda out of place for a porn game for sure.

The actual gameplay is, you roam dark corridors with a gun and shoot the enemies, there's some great horror elements with the flashlight looking into the darkness, very nice.

You have the gallery unlocked when you use the bed in the home base.

Let's see how this will be finished

I'm just putting this out there but it has some very brutal timing for some of the traps, and no room for error. You dash too fast you get crushed, but you delay even for a moment you get crushed. You gotta get up close and personal with the saw traps on the floor to jump over them, and early on there's no way to turn them off.

If you like rage games like I wanna be the guy / I wanna be the boshy, which are just outright difficult and brutal beyond reasonable degree? This is right up your alley.

It's not bad, nor terrible, nor awful... I rate it 2/5 because to me it's slightly below average. 2 stars in my eyes: are not the end of the world...

I just don't think I'll be keeping this on my MB storage taking up space. Ya can only get crushed so many times before ya call it quits.

I've died more times to stationary traps, than I have actual enemies, and that should tell ya all ya need to know 'bout cyan brain.

Enjoyed my 2-3 hour ish playthrough of the 3.0 demo not much story in this yet but can't wait till its more fleshed out, animation reminded me of nights of revenge but with added gore.
Gameplay consist of shooting the enemies and dodging their attack with your dodge roll and avoid getting overwhelmed, typical sidescroller shooter hentai. Most of the time there's a savepoint after every
enemy encounter/floor but if you die you have to run all the way back and this can be a problem because in this game there are traps and certain enemies that can insta kill you. Ammo isnt a problem in this game but woudn't hurt if the guns did more damage. Now for the porn, you get like 10-20 second of H-scene for each enemy and traps, the gore is fun to look at, some convulsions and ryona beating, and my personal favorite spoiler

works on my old device and with unity and does not take up much resources, great job dev on making this game, not many games I can play on this old device, also loved the shadows and light mechanics, gore I'm not much of a fan but gunplay was fine, hope to see more gunplay and hot action

    Demo 3.0 Revierw
The game is nice and I can see the potential, but it didn't managed to keep me engaged for more than one chapter.

There is some varieties to enemies, but if all it takes to defeat just one of them is to shoot for a minute straight with rolls in between for later stages, then it's not gonna be fun for longer than 5 minutes.

The first chapter and some of the second one I managed to complete were easy enough for me except for the boss. If you only have some basic understanding of ammo management, then you'll also gonna be fine.
They give you a couple of weapons and a knife, but honestly the melee is so useless I rather to just roll to the other side of the room and reload rather than finish it using knife.

As for the boss, the real difficulty was that it has the same problem as other enemies. It's a freaking sponge for the bullets, but stronger.
The Idea was nice though. It was different enough from basic enemies and the attack patterns can be learned. But it's also quite RNG.
You have stamina and you cannot of course reload while being hit or while rolling. If the boss decides to be aggressive, then you are pretty much fucked (literally). I managed to kill it thanks to OP weapon they give you, but the catch is from what I can tell there is no way to refill ammo. So if the next one also has the same issue (which it probably has) then it's going to be a pain in the ass to find good RNG.

Game teaches you using drawings on the walls. The lore is told by the environment, computer logs, and dialogues (no VA) from time to time. It's nice, but nothing interesting enough to hook you up.

The graphic itself is not too bad, but animations are on the basic level. Basically all characters are very clearly divided into limbs that moves by a certain degree.

Lastly, H-scenes are just what we all see in most H-games consisting of any fight system. You lose = character gets fucked and sent back into the last checkpoint afterwards. The scenes itself weren't remarkable as you may deduce from my critique for basic animations, but they have some potential if you are really into futa stuff.

Overall I'd recommend this game only for the people directly into futa and 2D shooters who don't mind enemies being harder to kill than a cockroach (between 10-15 shoots to the head).

Really fun game, would definitely buy it once it's fully complete.

Only negative thing that comes to mind is that you can't sprint when you're at the safehouse, other than that everything is perfect, from the atmosphere to the storyline.
  17. 1.00 star(s)

    NotImportant2023

Art seemed good, but gameplay is close to the worst I've seen.
Slow movement with no dash or evade, just jog left or right.
Enemies are fast bullet sponges so every enemy was able to sprint and land multiple hits despite spraying bullets into their skull without missing from the moment they appeared on screen.
when enemy gets up in your face, the gun fires behind them so you're limited to the use of a knife with the sluggish maneuver of a greatsword, but the damage of a dildo.

Style, atmosphere, and voice acting in the game are excellent. I really like the character design; it’s fantastic! The sci-fi world also looks intriguing. Hot animations are enjoyable, I wish there were more variety in defeat animations with bosses and interactions with NPCs.

Gameplay is standard for a side-scroller, need more dynamism. For example, variations in melee combat for a slasher and, for ranged weapons, enemies and situations involving vertical combat.

I hope the developer does well and finishes this interesting game!

So far there are only two chapters released and overall, it's a decent game with simple controls and the two bosses I fought haven't been that troublesome despite them dealing a lot of damage.

I fancy the art style (it looks nice), the body proportions are voluptuous but not over the top and the creature/enemy design has been bizarre but, IMO, not off-putting (unlike other gore games which definitely lean more on the grotesque and disturbing genres).

Besides, I've always got a thing for 2D scrollers plus a bit of platforming like Koonsoft's games or even much harder ones like the Flower series from Misinkojou: last but not least, this game features futa, IK it doesn't pick everyone's fancy, although it's my guilty pleasure, so it appeals to me.

I'm looking forward to the next updates (and to more futa content).

    ENDU_MAKYR

Cyan Brain is a lesson on how not to make a first level. Sparse checkpoints? Check. Annoyingly long series of insta-kill traps that require near pinpoint precision parkour? Check. Enemies that force you into those traps? Check. Oh, some of them also two-hit you, so trying to stand your ground is so risky that you may as well just walk into the trap.

A game can have the greatest art, the greatest story, the greatest music and voice acting. But if the gameplay sucks, few are going to play it.

And it's such a shame, because its guro. A niche that's frowned upon by many but I like. I really wanted to enjoy this game... but who designed that first level? It's travesty for an opening.
