Do you think CYOA and text-based games work for hentai games and why do you like them personally?

I dunno. I've thought about putting together that kind of thing before. It'd essentially be using Twine for what it was originally made for, and there's at least one game running around on this site that more or less does that. You'd end up with something like a porn gamebook if you ended up with stats and inventories.

Of course, it kinda hearkens back to the old MUD and MUCK days. I wasn't really into those scenes in those days, but at least some of them had adult content I know. However, that was more of a typefucking thing, I think, rather than a... single-player experience. Again, as far as I know.

Nearly every popular text-based game on this site, from my experience, ends up with at least SOME visual content.

In my experience, it's choice that drives text-based games--ones that have actual gameplay, I mean, not just Twine novels. Look at things like Degrees of Lewdity. Game's early-version as heck, but there're already about ten NPCs, to say nothing of the wolf pack and just random students. Sure, not every NPC has a huge and detailed arc, but there's at least something to do with most of them.

Free Cities is another text game with a ton of things to do.

Then there's the tack that things like the eramaker games take. They kind of have "fixed" events and player-driven sex interactions. It's sorta like what Strive for Power does, although most of the era games are quite a bit more detailed. Each of them has a ton of potential characters, but that's kind more of a function of the games they're parodying--but it's a huge advantage for a porn game.

I guess the real advantage of text-based games is that you can write pretty much anything irrespective of how bad it might look if someone tried to model it in 3D or draw it.

It's pretty noisy in here right now so I'm having a hard time putting together a coherent post.

Text based games usually have more effort put into gameplay since there is not any time being put into artwork, and even though i love the images and being able to actually see the tits that the game is talking about, im a gamer at heart.

Are those games played only by those that find pleasure in erotic writing or would you play a good hentai text based game regardless?

Yeah, "interactive fiction" is what I was trying to say. Genre's been around a long time. They're totally not my thing for porn games, so I don't really know much about that community. I don't really get into porn games/IF/VNs or whatever unless there's some kind of gameplay. Even eratohoTW's okay, and it's literally just wandering around patting heads and shit.

I'm weird I think when it comes to text-based games, I can't stand blocks of text. I see a big paragraph of just text and I just can't focus and delve into it. I'll take small, short sentences any day over blocks. That's why when I write adult fiction, I use minimal description.

Granted, my ADD is pretty bad...

I grew up before television. We had radio programs, where voice actors played their part reading a script, and a couple people banged coconut shells together to sound like horses trotting. You had to visualize the story, as they acted it out.
Unlike reading a book, radio shows were intentionally vague, so the listener had to imagine all the details. None of that romance novel bs where they describe every detail. It was... a knock at the door, Hello Anna, Hi Bob i'm sorry to bother you but it's so hot today do you have any ice i could borrow, um sure Anna i've got a block in the ice box give me just a minute, oh thank you if it isn't too much trouble i'd be ever so grateful, no trouble at all anna have a seat in front of this fan, chip chip chip with the ice-pick, oh bob the ice feels so good on my skin i can't believe how hot it is today, yeah it's a real scorcher outside... oh my the ice is melting so fast my blouse is soaking wet, i hadn't noticed, it's so hot would you mind terribly if I took it off, not at all if it makes you more comfortable you can hang it up to dry on this rack right here, oh bob i don't know what i'd do without you...

Television ruined everything. Instead of your mind filling in all the blanks with your own personally preferences, Hollywood used blondes for everything, you had no control over what you were watching anymore.

K.I.S keep it simple. no wall of text describing the carpet... you can faintly make out the contour of her breast poking beneath the satin sheets, she motions "come hither" with her index finger while twirling her hair with the other hand.
The reader supplies the missing data (insert girl of your dreams here) the vague description of the poking breast does not limit the size of said breast, the reader fills in the details themselves (A B C D E F J) leave as much to the imagination as possible.

I suggest giving Meteor a try. There's plenty of gameplay and choices and endings there.
