well good for you guys finally getting the game out. though i am worried about the whole "Will move to godot in a version or two" will result in a 6 month-a year hiatus as you update the engine like so many others have fallen into.
Sorry, what? This is godot, what are you referring to?

Can't wait for screencaps, even though all they'll probably do is make me want to play it more.

I'm getting to hype for this one, I'm gonna disappoint myself Spore-style, I can feel it.

It's a whole story in itself, but it'll be a familiar one if you know what happened with No Man's Sky.

Basically, Spore released this god-tier E3 demo where Steve Wright played through a number of stages with all this incredible-looking gameplay. People got really, really, REALLY hyped up over it, like Spore was slated to become the End of the Genre and just obsolete all games ever-tier hype.

Obviously, when it came out, Spore was not in fact a deific level of game design. It was actually quite good, but it was still, y'know, a normal game with bugs and things you couldn't do and all that.

People got mad, because they had hyped themselves into believing it'd be pure platinum, and instead it was solid silver. As a result it got flamed to hell and back and it took years for people to give it an honest look again. In the meantime EA dropped it, which is the major divergence from the NMS story where Hello Games decided to work on the game indefinitely to improve it.

Not saying the initial release is going to be as shoddy as the first days of NMS, I'm mostly focusing on the hypetrain side of things and trying to temper my own expectations. Also this is Alpha release so anyone expecting there not to be bugs is shooting themselves in the foot. But the hype train knows no breaks

The game is using the Redot fork of Godot 4.3, at the time it seemed like there was a lot of momentum to have a more agile development speed than the core Godot and there were fixes compared to the base version of Godot. Unfortunately it was more hype than reality and at the moment Godot is at 4.4, and seems to be on track to get to 4.5.

The reason this is relevant is that the Spine plugin (what drives all the animated characters and future sex scenes) follows the main version of Godot more closely... and they never fixed a bug in the 4.3 version that is a bit of a burden on the artists in the time since we switched to Godot.

But Redot 4.3 and Godot 4.4.1 aren't so different that it requires a major rework, there are just some bugs on the initial project upgrade. I just didn't want to move to 4.4.1 while I was having other issues and the release date was so close.

Looking promising so far, love the designs, not sure how i feel about the plot yet, the characters are very much like their show counterpart but almost to a fault in some cases given the circumstances, interesting to see who and what has changed and what has stayed the same between the time of the show and the game. Some characters/plot points feel evolved, and some feel static, won't go into detail because of spoilers. Looking forward to see how this story kicks it in gear (we are here for plot and porn afterall, will be interesting to see what direction this will go to deliver on intertwining both) cautiously optimistic about it. Never been a fan of having to name saves.

The naming convention I was def gonna mention to Epadder, as I also found it a little cumbersome to drop back to the keyboard just to slam the keys wildly and press enter. I’m gonna suggest adding an option to turn on or off the feature, or generate pre-made name files and then you can choose to rename it if that suits you. Cause for me it’s the same, I don’t need to name anything for something like this.

Wow. I didn't know that whole story surrounding Spore. To me, it was just a cool game that I played for a while with my younger brother, and we competed with nice animal designs on all the different levels of gameplay possible. To think that it was actually controversial at launch. As far as I was concerned at the time, it was truly novel gameplay, and pretty darn well done for what they had for the time. To think there were those who were unsatisfied with even that! I am gonna have to look up the demo you mentioned. I've seen scam demos and overpromising before, like with The Day Before, that was a real scam, and pretty recent.

It was also missing several stages from what was originally intended.
The plan was, Molecular, Cell, Underwater, Creature, Tribe, City, Civilization, a Terraforming, and Space.
Molecular, underwater, and city were dropped, and Terraforming was merged into Space.

From what I saw, I am kind of glad the Molecular stage was removed, as I am not a fan of Tetris-like games. XD

The underwater one could have been interesting, I am not sure about the city one. lol
And merging Terraforming and Space was likely the right thing to do. Hard to say though.

From what I saw, I am kind of glad the Molecular stage was removed, as I am not a fan of Tetris-like games. XD

And merging Terraforming and Space was likely the right thing to do. Hard to say though.
Without having access to those cut stages, I can only say that the pacing felt alright, if a bit fast for the Creature and Tribe stages, those could perhaps been a bit more well developed, but oh well. I greatly enjoyed the game when it came out, and am now tempted to play it again. Sometimes the things that end up on the "Cutting Room Floor" are there for a reason, although sometimes it feels like there was missed potential. There's a fascinating site by this name, that details cut content for many games, perhaps there is an entry for Spore there. Regardless, on the topic of Hype for games that Karne mentioned, I remain rather optimistic for Dark Dimensions, and ultimately the Hype seems right.

Nobody's said people can't, although I have simply kindly asked that people NOT leak before public, just for this very first update. But I literally can't stop anybody from doing so, nobody's chosen to be the one though. But when that first leak happens, it'll be great, because we can finally have a page to update and get people's attention on.

So it's literally just down to whoever does it, cause I can't stop it.
