data on internal drive

I've looked through the code of a renpy game and it seems forcing data into our hard drives is a choice. It makes no sense, though, especially given the general content of these games. It puts the player at risk in many countries. Different content is illegal in different places. I gather this is why many choose to use androids, but that is limiting in engines other than RenPy.
It should create that data file next to the game (not game folder in game). That way it can be on an external drive that can be moved between computers with needing to restart every time (like I just did when I got a new computer).

Well, no. Which forced data are you talking about? Who are you addressing? What result are you looking for from this thread?

BTW, the reason some people only play on android is not related to security. It's because that is the only un-shared computer they have.

It makes a lot of sense to store savegames in the AppData folder so you don't have to manually migrate them every time a new game update comes out. If you're "at risk" from playing porn games it's kind of on you to take precautions.

Don't force any data on our computers internal hard drives, clear enough?
Don't illegally download Ren'Py games problem solved.(y) Especially if you are too lazy to delete the folder from AppData and while you are at it don't illegally download any Unity games either. ;)

Not sure. Have you tried making any which aren't wild overreactions to mundane discoveries about how things work?

It is a valid point with a clear answer. And they save in several different areas, depending on which engine and the developers choices.

Actually that is 100% wrong. I studied enough CS in college to know that. It can go exactly where I suggested very easily. This is not a ME issue, it is a GLOBAL ISSUE.

Lots of things can be done, that doesn't mean they should be done. There are reasons why Windows has a standardized way of handling persistent program data, one of them being so it stays around when you delete the program, another being so every program doesn't shit up your hard drive with random folders full of settings/savegames in random places.

If it bothers you or is putting you "at risk" you already have a myriad of options to play porn games and keep your system clean. If your security concerns are real and you aren't just using them as an excuse to get what you want you should look into Virtual Machines or encryption. Something like allows you run a separate OS from a USB drive, so all your fucky sucky savegames stay in an encrypted environment away from your normal stuff.

Heh, I'd been working up to mentioning that one - the bit in the documentation about why it's a terrible idea to set it up for persistent storage does a pretty good job of explaining some fundamental security concepts.

Yeah, but he already mentioned he would like to store his DANGEROUS savegames on an external harddrive without mentioning encryption, so this would be an upgrade. Also since he has a Patreon posting shit from Boston I assume he isn't worried about being tortured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and just wants to hide his porn from a roommate or some shit.

Absolutely. Turning off reputation based filtering, cloud delivered protection, and automatic sample submission in Windows are sane things to do, worrying about people with unattended physical access to your shit is a lost battle.

Once again, you are trolling to NEG. READ MY WORDS! It is in the program where to put those save and data files! It is a deliberate choice of the DEV's!

WRONG! It isn't, once again, a ME issue, but a GENERAL GLOBAL ISSUE! I'm pointing out a larger issue a hating troll won't accept.

You do realize you are screaming that it isn't you but "everyone" does not make you the actually spokes person for everyone.

Fact, the majority of people who play these games, expect the games to act in a certain way any more. Right or wrong, that is conditioning for you. People are here for the fapping and/or the story. Figuring out how things work is not high on the prioritization.
Fact, more and more people have no clue what the hell directory/folders are, let alone what file organization is.
Fact, name calling never helps your case.

If you are really that set about external writings, and knowing that most of the renply data on a Windows based OS will end up in AppData\Roaming\RenPy or the like, turn that final location into a symbolic link that points to a different location.

Bro, it obviously is a YOU issue... That's the default behavior of every single game, adult or not.

If you don't like it look for any of the several workarounds.

Most people aren't paranoid and those that are would not be running stuff outside of a virtual machine in the first place.

There is only one troll in this thread, you.
