Hey everyone

A few days ago I posted that I was interested in learning how to make a game (visual novel in 3D). I have been checking out software, but I can't decide whether I should use DAZ3D or Blender. What are the main differences of the 2 programs and the pros/cons?

Is it possible to make entire scenes from games like Man of the House with Blender?

If you want to make a VN use DAZ, if you want to spend 2 years learning how to use blender that's up to you. Blender is a good tool but it's a prick to use and not designed for VN's.

You can use Daz models in a whole list of professional render and animation programs, you don't have to use the Daz viewer.

Very broadly as someone who has been using Daz (not professionally) for a couple of years and as someone who has fiddled with Blender only a small amount i can say that the learning curve is far less harsh in Daz, though you can do more in Blender in terms of modelling from the ground up, if your okay using premade or modified assets (photshop and blender are very good companions to DAZ) then DAZ works well, from my experience and talking to others Blender works better if you intend to actively model things yourself, for me getting a few slider packs and modding the hell out of characters with those and editing textures in PS was sufficient, it really depends how deep you want to go.

When it comes to the world of 3D modelling, I've definitely learned that Daz is the place to start. It's 3D art with training wheels and it's free. I'm only now coming to a place where Daz just isn't "doing it for me". But I've found in learning more complex software like Maya, the basic knowledge of 3D design and rendering I picked up in Daz is making that learning curve easier to navigate.

Daz can be used right out of the box and the only "training" you need to get started can be found in about four hours of Youtube videos produced by the makers of Daz.

Just some added info. I don't know if they got it fixed, but Daz to Maya was having some serious problems with the latest iteration of Maya (I ended up returning it).

This was as of four months ago, so who knows, maybe they've gotten it straightened out now.
