Debian linux problem

Sh file is allowed to execute, and yet it gives me the text editor? Any quick easy fixes on this?

Iirc the issue is not Debian per se, but the file manager. This thing here:

What software are you using? If you don't know its name, click Help on the menu bar.

Anyway, I'm confident there is some box to check somewhere in the preferences.

is how you would have solved the same issue issue on Nautilus (Ubuntu file manager) a few years ago.
