Yeah that's what I meant.
When Succubi myths came to exist, it is believed to originate from Messopotamia 2400 BC (I had to google the timeframe, don't have that memorized).
Originally they visited you and gave you erotic dreams.
In older times, (roughly around the same time as the witch trials.) Men would even punish their wives for having an affair for having an erotic dream because they believed they had sex with an Incubus.


I don't think there's a lot of information in regards to what messopotamians believed, but it had something to do with their king believed to be an Incubus and visit women in their dreams. <- I double checked this before submitting, apparently this is believed but there's no evidence to support it so not really guaranteed that it's true.

At some point it became Incubi and Succubi would steal energy from their hosts.

At another point that energy source became semen for Succubi. Not entirely sure for Incubi, don't think those changed too much.
(After fact checking myself; Just now found out that Succubi stealing energy via Semen was popularized around the Renaissance period onward. Actually pretty neat to know.)

So yeah, it wouldn't be too farfetched for me to change it to stealing energy and allow Succubi to feed off men. But that would be a lot of story and mechanics to rewrite and I'm not about to do that so close to the end.

I have too many ideas for other games that I want to do, plus I am so burnt out on DG.
I don't think a sequel will happen.

Also, I've learned my lesson from DG that I don't want to do a super long narrative as a CYOA again unless I have another writer working alongside me.
If I have a lot of branches, I want to keep the game short next time around.

I do however want to reuse my Witch of the Abyss someday.

Anyways, if I were to do anything with Demon Gods again, I'd probably just steal my lore and worldbuilding from the first game and reuse it in another game.

Well that sucks, i don't like short games. Maybe you should consider taking more time to finish your projects instead, so you can insert other activities into your workflow that help with removing the burn.

I do however want to reuse my Witch of the Abyss someday.

I'm with you here. Not sure about 'not enough games with succubi' tho, there's tons of them actually, but we can always use more.
Then again, you could also do something with vampires instead, they can be surprisingly similar to succubi... especially if it's a hybrid born of a succubus and a vampire. Or a hybrid of succubus and some unique demon, there's plenty of variety out-there.

I hear you, but over the past 8 or so months I've lost over 100 subscribers on Patreon.
I'm not going to pretend money isn't a major factor as to why I do this, so it does kind of suck. Especially when a lot of newer and not-so-great games come out with no content and immediately somehow have 300+ subscribers. Kinda makes me jealous.

I could be wrong, but I personally believe the length of my game is a huge factor in why I'm losing members.
That or maybe I write way too much and people just want a smut game, haha. But I don't think I'd enjoy a making a game that doesn't have a focus on story.

I'm not sure RPG maker is as popular as twine since twine is easy to pick up and drop, but I do believe demon gods would have been better as an RPG game.
There is a guy who is 'remaking Demon Gods' as an RPG, but I'm kind of skeptical of that ever being completed, though he's adamant that he will.

I do like Vampires but everytime I try to write a vampire I feel myself accidentally stealing too much inspiration from Shingetsutan Tsukihime.
And while I'd HATE for it to happen to me, I enjoy exploring the psychological aspect of Gender Bender, so I might do gender bender stuff in future games too. There are some fun themes I haven't really seen that many games do very much of, like possession or bodyswap.




There are two games I'm working on, on the side.
One of them has an artist and another developer.
Actually this time I'm mostly the writer, designer, and mechanics designer.
I'm just a back-up programmer on that game. (Also it's being programmed in C# which I'm not very good at. Sadly switching from Python to C# isn't as easy as I hoped).

Anyways, the reason I brought that game up is because originally I had planned to have the protagonist as an Overlord. Originally I wanted her to be a Dragon (humanoid for most scenes, no anthro stuff). Then as the story changed, it made more sense to make her a non-specific demon. Then as I went on, she basically just became another Succubus, so I embraced it. Haha.

Then there's another solo game I'm working on that I wasn't planning to share with anyone.
I'll probably use AI for that one, though I might hire someone to redo the art if/when I decide to release it on a store like Steam.
This game is intended to be relatively short, I want to do multiple characters and roughly 5 chapters. It won't have a deep story though, I'm going for humor this time. The entire game will be a parody, highly inspired by Douglas Adams quirky and funny style of writing.

Currently I've written the opening for two characters, and while one of the characters seems like it will be extremely hard to write going forward, I'm actualy kind of excited to try. I love my opening for that character at least.

Unrelated to Demon Gods, but the artist for the other game I'm working on, when I find time, gave me permission to share her sketch.
I described and used AI to give her what I was looking for in the protagonist and asked her to go for a retro anime style (imagine the original Slayers anime).
She has never done retro anime, so its new for her but she's already given me some colored examples of her attempts and I'm pretty happy with them.
I'm only hiring her to do character cutouts though, I'll probably outsource somewhere else for action / lewd scenes.

If i were to name one reason it'd likely be AI art, since the public is still in its hysteria phase over this new tech.
And possibly the engine, it's just twine right? Generally that's not very appealing, maybe give Rpgm, Renpy, or Godot a shot.
Then again, i know some cool and popular games made in twine.
This is what you should prolly aim for if you gonna be sticking with twine.

But yes you can sexualize witchcraft easily, and even keep the depth too if you give it a good mulling over, i'm sure.

I'm also interested in trying to use pixel game maker and try making a metroidvania. Not a massive one, for that I'd probably use unity since I already own a metroidvania engine in it. Someday.
And yeah I'd rather use godot, but right now the tools for unity are better.
I doubt I'll be selling enough for them to take profits anyways.

I mean I'm doing surprisingly well if I'm being honest. It's hard to look at it that way sometimes but I was briefly in the top 300 for patreon adult games. Most twine games fail even before the devs get burnt out and quit, so it's hard but I should give myself some credit.

I saw a xenogears battle engine for rpg maker someone built and am super interested in trying that. I've been wanting to make a xenogears like battle system for a long time.

But I can see why you'd say that. I asked the artist to give her elf ears and detachable horns/wings (so I can add them later).

Frieren is fantastic. I'm glad that got an anime.

They updated their TOS within 24 - 48 hours of this proposed plan because of the backlash.

Now Unity is still not ideal, but until Godot has enough resources to compete with Unity, I think it's still the best option.
Also, if I actually made enough money for them to charge a fee, I'd consider that a success. I'm hopeful to make at least 50k off the game in the first year, but they don't start charging until around 200k or so.

I'm working my butt off trying to add as much content as possible, but I've been hitting my limit lately. Doesn't help that I have a 1 year old running around and a wife who thinks that me working from home means I can just walk away from work at any time to do whatever she needs, haha.

0.61, I am hoping to add the first part of the new dungeon (though I'm still trying to consider how I want to handle it), as well as add a few more court sessions to town, and add new conversations to all of the npc's in the area.

Oh, I 100% agree.

Ultimately the decision was made by the other developer.

But tbh, even if I were to make my own game, I'm not skilled enough to use Godot and manage to actually complete something in a timely manner.
Unity has pre-built engines and resources for stuff like Metroidvania's and visual novels that I can take advantage of.
I do hope to one day in the future move over to Godot when I get a bit better (maybe if my investments ever pay off and I can quit my FT job and focus on making games, I can find some time to actually do that).

But for now, I'm personally focusing on twine, and probably renpy next.

After that we'll see where I go based on what I want to make and how much confidence I have.

Thanks for the scathing review, but I think you're missing the point a bit. Especially given your post history.

If I had 2 points of praise, it's that the AI art is at passable quality and the dev can string together coherent sentences but that's about it.

And I'm surprised how asset starved the game is despite them being literally auto generated.

The reason my images might appear more janky than other AI games is because I don't just type words and call it a day. My AI art is a mixture of hand-drawn, AI and hours spent editing in photoshop. So as to why the game is lacking in assets...
Well, if you really want, I COULD just string together some words and post whatever results I get without caring if the character matches the protagonist / other characters, and without putting effort into different positions / styles / pov's / etc.

But I do take some pride in the fact that I do spend time drawing and editing my images.

Unfortunately my art skills aren't high enough to make something as good as an artist or AI can put out, but on the other hand I also don't want to use generic images that AI usually spits out. (Most lewd images are POV, I try to do more than that but the results are usually a loss in quality).

As for the long passages, I'll give you that.
I've been trying to do better and break passages into smaller passages, it's a learning experience.
