Ren'Py - Desert Stalker [v0.17.1.2 2024-12-30] [Zetan]

Normally I don't comment and just play the games, but this one hit me different. I am super hyped and hope to some day witness the completion of it. At first I ust wanted to have a good time but then with Yuna and her Backstory as well as the adventure with Shani I am just super invested into the story and where this will all go. On top of all that we all get to enjoy a nice Harem so it really is a perfect game. The only thing I would like is more consequences, but maybe that is still to come when we find out all the secrets and maybe have to choose sides.
As a side note I truly noticed how I actually cared for the characters and the story when Ain was killed in Shanis nightmare I actually was terrefied for a few seconds and felt my heart beat like crazy.

Super erotic game where you get to explore your unreasonable power fantasies, if you like that, or be a relatively nice guy if you like that. By the time I was done with him, my character was such as smug asshole that I was rolling my own eyes at him while exploring this clever roleplaying playground, woven deliciously into what's actually a Visual Novel, and not a real RPG. But it succeeds at giving you the feeling that you're really living your life as an elite super-soldier Desert Stalker who is also the patriarch of an oasis where you keep your harem/family. One of the few games I keep coming back to when updates come along, very highly recommended.

I just completed version 0.15c and gonna share my thoughts about the game

First, I will say that game really lives up to the description in many ways - there is a contrast in plot, mood, tangible freedom of choice, and in general the game is not to say that it is a very specific work. It’s as if the author wanted everything at once - a dynamic action plot, alternated and sometimes diluted with leisurely episodes introducing the game’s lore; a lot of sex, with alternative outcomes in many acts; quite a few options for choosing lines, many of which not only lead to different responses from the characters, but can even globally affect the presence of a certain character in the game as a whole.
Ambitious, definitely. But integrity, as for me, is lacking. I got a kick out of the adventure, the beautiful and high-quality models, the good music, but I couldn’t identify the core of the game. The game can be chaotic. You don’t quite understand how long it might take to bring this project to the finale, because the plot has already acquired many branches, and the plot chain of the main idea with artifacts affecting anomalies has only just made itself felt. Hope the project won't be abandoned in full swing. I wish to take out and justify the promising beginning. 4.2/5 from me

This game is hands down one of the best VN I have ever played. For being far from finished it has so much content. I find myself coming back every so often to see if there has been a new update with more content. I can't wait for this to be finished.

If your looking for a game that has great potential, this is it.

What a game. I came for the always-great "incestuous harem in a post apocalyptic" setting, I stayed for the impregnation and lactation teases which I'm usually not into, and I got crushed by the intrinsic melancholy that resides in some characters and stories that the wasteland offers.

This VN has made me want to get back to it like only games or shows do, thanks to the characters and lewds.

Story
Great stories with twists, developments, but very rarely does the telling turn too slow. When it's not about lewds that tickle your monkey brain, it's about emotional beauty and depth that tickled your human brain. Some unusual mashups of characters from various other genres, but the game tries to make it make sense within the ruleset of this world.

And it has the kind of melancholy I'm a sucker for.

English
Great english, that is neither too difficult nor too simplistic. It's just right. Mistakes are very rare.

Characters
Great looking and interesting characters. It's using known models, but well enough changed up that I'm not thrown off. The general art-direction is cute and hot.

There are tropes among main and side characters, but they too are usually customised well enough to be unique among the VNs I've played.

Sex
Plenty of kinks I like that don't have tags, like dirty talking, reverse NTR. And LOTS of sex scenes and in combinations with different characters. For the most part, pages-between-sex can be pretty low but can on rare occasions go up. But in those in-betweens there's usually characters involved that are nice to look at.

At first, I thought "Oh, here we go again, another sci-fi trying to be edgy, people are probably overestimating it because of X or Y".
And... I couldn't be more wrong.
So far, this game has the BEST story I saw in a VN, and by a mile. There's an actual story, yes, an interesting, well-developed, well-crafted, world-builded, character-developed, narrated, CGed, story!
It pours love from cutscenes and scenes in general to the point some scenes seem to be directed by a photographer, there's a lot of caring with light, atmosphere, and music, and it attempts to go a step further by introducing some cutscenes, active time engagements, consequences of consequences, and alike.
If you are a starter, an enjoyer, or a connoisseur of VNs, it's a must. There are surely other games with interesting narratives, but this deserves its own shelve.

The gameplay aspect is superb, you choices actually matter and you see the impact they have in the world. Writting is on point, most game go for either an comedy atmosphere or romance, not this one. The scenarios and characters are diverse.
I don't have much else to say, this game is good in everything it does, it would be an solid game even without the porn thing.

A truly well done game. The women are beautiful and so are the cutscenes. An excellent story so far. The music actually helps set the atmosphere instead of being background noise. This is definitely one of the best in this site.

Desert Stalker holds no punches, and in the adult gaming space where it can often seem quite sparkles/rainbows sometime (especially in the harem genre) this game is a breath of fresh air.

Even if there was no lewds, I think I'd be interested in the story being told and the world being explored. So many interesting story threads and characters and the game succeeds at doing something a lot of other games fail at, being memorable.

Gore warning and intense sexual themes warning, but heavy recommend

This game got me hooked right from the start. This is the very best example of VN-RPG that I can think of, the only other game with similar "style" that was implemented this good was "What a Legend".
Various plots and quests, they just work, didn't find a bug yet.
Abou the girls and theme, the variety and proportion of girls are very well made, we have petite small breasted beauties, some thicc, some with big breasts and so on. The render quality and animations are also very well made 10/10.
The setting of the game as a post apocalyptic world is also very nice, the girls have clearly different personalities, we got strong willed girls, weak minded ones, some crazy bitches but also some delicate ones, i think this appeals to most of the audience out here.
A little bit of slavery, bdsm, i also find sharing appealing.
The story overall is very well written IMO, there are some plot twists and and plot points that seem to be converging to a final showdown.
Very glad i found this game! The dev said some time back that he might launch this on steam, cant wait long enough to be able to support him through that! (patreon support is expensive where i live)

Okay, yeah. I don't know how I happened upon this game but I'm extremely glad I did

This is one of the BEST I've ever played. In fact it's easily Top 3 for me. I generally don't like the harem type games because it's so cookie-cutter, and while in this everyone wants to bang you just like the rest of them, the uniqueness of the characters stand out so much and it's believable. Some of them you have to really work for and the ones you don't, well, I mean it's kinda obvious why lol

The characters are SO good though. Can't stop talking about them. With their own motivations and personalities. . The fact you can have completely different experiences with them depending on your choices and how you interact with them.

The setting is interesting as well. I saw some complaints of how random it is with some locations and factions, and while I agree to an extent, it's woven together pretty decently in the story and Im sure more of it will make sense as it goes on

One of my all time favorites, the story is great but I do wish we had some more story progression with the updates but I cant complain much about that as most updates add great scenes, good backstory and show you what the story world is like.
When it comes to LIs there really isnt any I do not like, the renders are great, not the best I have every seen but still amazing.
Looking forward to seeing where this story goes and enjoying all the Lis on the way

i have lurked on this site for many years (lost my prev account don't mind the new account that's reviewing) playing much of what is released that catches my interest. This is far and away one of the best games i've played.
Scenes 5/5 - not just repeats of the same thing or slight variation but actually different scenarios with payoff for choices
Story 4.5/5 - a couple of parts where it slows down but honestly it builds up atmosphere quite well. for the record i'm normally the guy that would just skip a lot of the text. it felt wrong to do that with this game i was that hooked on the story. ( mind it does help that i'm a fan of fallout/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. already)
ui 4/5 - could have a couple of improvements but does everything it needs to, isn't incredibly buggy (in my experience) and generally rather sleek and what i'd want from a well made Ren'Py game.
models 5/5 - different factions leads to different aesthetics, and a decent variety of characters. maybe could be some more variation in body type but honestly i'm happy with what we have/ may be upcoming

Character: 5/5 they do not look like clones
Story: 4/5 very original, some path could be expanded later?
UI or Controls: 4/5 nothing to fancy but they do their job
Sex scenes: 4/5 hot stuff here

having played the game for very first time on v0.15c, i enjoyed every second of it. sure some things could be better and i wont nitpick any details, but i take no issue with it given i experienced large content within just 2-3 days.

i also understand other reviews where content being released in versions can be a bit annoying. personally for me, i wont be playing this game again for a long time and will wait for a few more updates to come through.

that being said, i'd love a recap system that takes into account the decisions i've made and the scenes i've seen along my path for whenever i pick this back up.

I couldn't get into this AVN.
The background of the post apo world is a great setting, but the story felt a bit flat to me from the start. The same goes for the characters, where none of them managed to appeal to me. I don't find the renders to be particularly great either. For me, one of the most overrated AVNs at F95zone.

If you're a harem fan and the characters and their bond with each other aren't essential to you, though, you'll be satisfied.
