I can't warn people off of RPGM enough. I get why you'd want to make a dungeon crawler esque game and put it there, but just don't.
If you have a partner that is also a programmer, and will be able to help with adding more custom features such as a proper, and working quest log, a map, add a decent hint system ... then maybe. Just maybe.
But let me just put it the best way I can - Unless you are porn gaming Jesus, or you decide to complete your game, and sell it as finished product, here is what will happen:
- Episodic release. Not that it will have episodes, but you'll have patch X where you have content Y available.
- People will flock en mass during one of the bigger releases, but still early on. They will complete 3-4-12 updates worth of content.
- They will forget your game even exists for a while. Then they will come back, having forgotten everything they were supposed to do.
- They will have no proper or complete ingame log, nor a really good walktrough. They will get frustrated and never touch the game ever again.
No one will remember that Y told them to visit Z on a sunday to progress, it's been half a year since they were told that cuz your game is incomplete and they had to put it down for a while. If you don't log each and every thing they have to do, or if you don't absolutely railroad them towards that destination, it will never ever work.
Good luck.
