Ren'Py - Abandoned - Deviant Anomalies [v0.9.5] [MoolahMilk]

This is a great sandbox game that has a lot of potential and it seems the story still can be expanded. I am a firm believer that for what its worth the dev is trying real hard and it shows in the quality of the game itself and the superb animations and renders.
Most of the time when you check you can inmediately see a game is done in HS2 but for me this one didn't feel like it. Dev has tried so hard for the game to look original and has mostly succeded. Sure, most of the characters fall in stereotypes but at least for me is bearable experience.
The investigation portions of the game were starting to become annoying and I know in the end its just an over-engineered point system , but the originality is there. Overall, the game is trying really hard to be unique and has succeded in doing that in many aspects. Story might need some omph at some point since I truly didn't feel the tension besides the beginning sequence. The girls still haven't had development but I am willing to wait and for me that really isn't an issue. Also I feel like there is nothing at stake but I get the feeling that as the game progresses so will the story,. Keep up the good work!

Pretty incredible game thus far.

It really begins to shine during the 2nd case. As a detective you will have to investigate, collect evidence, and then interrogate potential suspects. This aspect of the game is done well, but the actual murder mystery itself is done extremely well.

The animations are very smooth, which is a bit of a rarity for lewd games. The girls are hot. The sex scenes are crazy hot, kinky, and definitely very fappable.

The femdom is mostly girl on girl. There is some optional femdom (MC getting dominated by females), but it's not very well done. Not sure why the developer bothered putting it in, since he's clearly not into it.

Fun and thrilling. Really enjoyed this one. Has a decent amount of kinks and acts

The technical part is there: graphics looks great, UI, sounds are unusually nice for a porn game, mechanics seems to be alright. But unfortunately the game fails heavily in the most important aspect of porn VN's: the writing. The dialogues are dumb as hell, characters doesn't feel alive, just generic porn NPC's without any real personality. Because of this, if you care about the story (and don't just skip the dialogues to watch a CGI porn gallery) playing the game is not a good experience; uncompelling, or even boring.

This review comes with a major caveat that I have NOT played most of the game. Nevertheless, the beginning of a game or story is just as -if not more - important than the rest and I just couldn't get into this one. The art is fine and the UI is easy to use, so credit where it's due. Unfortunately, this is a VN, and VNs come with their own challenges that this failed to meet.

With the exception of the sister, all of the characters I've met so far have been utterly unlikable and rude. The MC gets consistently walked over like some shitty, blubbering anime protagonist and the story railroads you into putting up with them. There are points where you can choose between a dom or sub sex scene, but then it's right back to being insulted for no reason. I usually try to be objective with these kinds of things because it's usually a kink, but at some point I have to find something likable about a character - a hot bitch is a bitch, but at least she's pretty to look at before she stomps on your dick. Here, there's nothing but perpetually off-putting characters.

The writing is sub-par and gives major whiplash. "My sister just teased me for having a small dick when we were kids! I know, I'll whip it out and show her what's what! That'll be funny!" This is then followed by the main character giving a Patrick Bateman "I'm empty inside" speech and lamenting the deaths of his parents. Which is it? Am I supposed to be laughing along with a writer that's self-aware of how ridiculous this is? Because it seems like they're playing it straight half the time, which means the characters just appear incredibly cringe and socially inept.

There are other missteps in how the game presents content and characters, like the MC vehemently refusing to sell a lewd video of his sister and acting clearly disgusted by the thought of sexualizing her, before waltzing into her room, sniffing her panties, and stealing them while gleefully exclaiming that he intends to use them to masturbate.

So the writing isn't great. But there's another aspect of making good VNs, and that's choice. Early on I thought there was some clever decisions going on, but ultimately there is no meaningful choice because there is no "fail" state. In an early quest, you can interrogate a store manager and the clerk. The clerk was hostile in early interactions, and so when given the choice to stare at her breasts I did not, opting to simply ask some basic questions. The older manager, however, I did stare at. She appreciated the attention, as I thought she would from the hints the game gave.

None of that mattered, though. It's an illusion of decision making - whether I was an idiot or not had no bearing on progress with the characters or the quest in general. To drive the point home, I could not leave the scene despite exhausting the options for asking questions about the case. I finally went back to the clerk and remembered that I had chose not to ask what seemed like a pointless question: "Do you like parties?" This turned out to be the MC making a bizarre and baseless accusation against the clerk, angering her. However, after doing so I was allowed to leave the store and continue with the game.

I will probably play more of it after a break, but the two hours or so of playing were such a turn off that I'm only considering it out of fairness to the developer. If I change my opinion, I will update my review accordingly. For now, I'm giving it a 3/5. The game looks good and it isn't a pain to play - that's the bulk of what goes into making a game and the dev has done a great job there. If they had somebody go through and rewrite the thing I could see it becoming exceptional, but ultimately it's "just another VN" of the caliber to be expected from amateur creators.

One of the best games here. Yes, the characters are adapted from Honey Select, but there was a lot of care in their rendering and final presentation, offering results we don't see often here.
However, although the characters are great (and so are the sex scenes), it is the writing that kept me hooked (yes, really). In these kind of games, I find myself just clicking Ctrl to skip the dialogue and "get down to business", but not here.
The film noir ambiance (and music!) mixed with super-natural mysteries make for a compelling game. The fact that all is presented in a very polished and professional way is just the cherry on the top.
Can't wait for the story to develop!

One of the best games here. A great mysterious story, a lot of amazing character models, the writing is siumply the best! This game is way to good to be a fap game. I'm so deep into this story that I even forget about milking my boner.

Love the game, the store and the graphics! The renders are really beautiful, and the story twist (and humer) is really good. Especially like the fact that not everything is obvious, and you need to "work" with your brain (in the big head) to progress with the story.

This game is great. It gets top marks in multiple areas and could easily be one of the best games on this site if it makes a few tweaks here and there. I’ll go through each aspect of the game that I consider noteworthy.

First is obviously the story. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been all that much in the “main” story of the game. A decent amount of side content and almost 2 full cases (the second of which is very, very long). But in terms of plot development, there is still a lot left to be seen. That being said, what content we do currently have is very good. The story is compelling and the worldbuilding is surprisingly good for a porn game. There are neat twists and turns, though there seems to be some buildup for a very obvious “twist” that is so blatantly apparent that I hope it’s some kind of red herring (though a cheap asspull would be even worse). The dialogue and writing is also pretty sharp with only a few spelling or grammar mistakes here and there.

The visuals in this game are absolutely incredible. Obviously I don’t need to tell you that the models and renders are incredible, you can see that with the preview images. But another thing that really impressed me were the environments. Every room and location felt really well designed and thought out. No ugly pregens that you see in every other Illusion-based game. The animations are also really impressive and smooth. The fantasising you do in the bathroom early-on shocked me with how quality the animation was; really impressive stuff.

The atmosphere and sound in this game is also really great. Atmosphere isn’t something I really talk about when reviewing adult games because it’s usually either non-existent or poorly done. But this game nails it. Every location flows well with the other, no drastic lighting changes, etc… The music is also really great. I normally hate music in adult games because it’s always the same annoying royalty-free music you hear in literally every other game. But this game has well-curated music that fits the scenes really well. I think the only time I didn’t enjoy the music was during some of the early sex scenes, but sexy music is hard to get right. But everything else was great and really fit well. From the slow noir music in quieter scenes to the eerie VVitch music during the Church mystery, nearly every song does a great job of building tone and atmosphere. It’s genuinely the only adult game that I haven’t muted while playing. But the dev should maybe dedicate some time to making sure all of the tracks are the same or similar volume, sometimes a track will come on that’s almost twice as loud as the previous and it can be jarring.

That being said, not all the sound is good. The game starts off a little rough in that regard with the heavy-breathing of the protagonist being mixed FAR TOO LOUD with the default sound settings. Then when the sequence ends, you’re treated to some awful earrape that I suppose the dev thought was funny and somehow hasn't been removed in all the subsequent updates. I nearly muted all my sounds at that point but I’m glad I didn’t. Some of the sex sounds like moans and such occaisionally feel misused. Maybe the audio quality is bad or maybe some of the voices feel like they don’t match the subject, but this is likely personal taste — I’m glad the dev added them because they do add to the scenes.

I think one of the weakest and strongest aspects of this game is the puzzles. Whether it be point-and-click or deduction, a lot of the puzzle aspects are usually engaging, but often become tedious and frustrating. I found myself really interested in the church mystery, but I grew really tired of it by the end of the current update because there was just so much running around and clicking the same things over and over, passing time just to get some new clues. The Crypt is a great example of how tedious and frustrating these little moments can be. It can get extremely frustrating when you are incapable of proceeding simply because you missed one tiny clue laying on the ground in the corner of a random room and the only solution is to either ask on the forums for help or just scour each and every room pixel by pixel at each time of day just to be sure. It could definitely use some fine-tuning.

All-in-all, I think this game is easily worthy of 5 stars in terms of quality. You may be wondering then — why have I only given it 4 stars? That’s because of the amount of content. Normally I don’t like to harp on quantity when the quality is so obviously good, but this is actually a game I had tried to play a long time ago. I’m not certain exactly when I last played it, but it was likely only a few months after the initial release. It’s been quite awhile since then and there has been barely any main story content. The church mystery was added and some other side content, but compared to other good games released around the same time, this game seems to be getting a pretty minimal amount of content. I understand that developing your own game is difficult and it’s often a thankless job, the dev has obviously put a lot of time and love into this project — and it shows. But I can’t justify giving this 5 stars with the current rate of significant content updates. Hopefully someday in the future, I can edit this review and make it 5/5. I just hope that if that day comes, it doesn’t take 5 years to get there.

If you like games with high quality, an interesting sci fi story and good plot elements, by an developer that actually cares and is very active and responsive in this community, then this is the game for you. Not a big fan of porn that you need to guess (solve) what someone is thinking aka puzzles. I found the payout for most of the time spent thus far to little for the time invested. Church investigation great example of this. Deleted the game after having to dig in a trash for a puzzle that I had no reference point as to how to solve in game. Cute characters but I am Glad it was free to try here since so far no thanks!

I have finished my first play of the game. It´s not a small feat to make a sandbox game where you don´t need a walktrought and that have a build in help sistem that it´s good enought to guide you and not so comprensive that you feel like a puppet.

I have enjoyed it, and it´s a damm good game. I want to make this cristal clear, because from this point I´m going to criticize aspects of the game, and don´t want give anyone the wrong impresion.

I have a major criticism to the game, and some puntual ones. I will go first with the puntual ones.

The puntual ones refers, first, to the point where I get stuck, and secont to some minigames.

I get stuck in the crypt.
Second, the minigames. Ok, may be my opinion will have some bias. I, generally, dislike minigames. I can give them a pass if you can pass them, or not, and the game goes on. But if you must pass them in order to go with the game I don´t see the point. I don´t like to expend 15 minutes trying to rebuild a broken photo in less that 2:30, or making again a walk throught some industrial building in order to succeed in a stealth chek, or hiting 20 times a giant spider with a club.

But this two are minor criticisms. Not big deal, really. The big deal with the game it´s that it´s putting to much effort in the potatoes and leting apart the meat. Too wide and too few deepth. The game lack focus.

I hope that this will be corrected in future updates, because, in my mind, it will be the diference between a good game and an excelent one.

It was a debate as to whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. I settled on 5, as I see a lot of potential in this ambitious game, and it kept me well entertained through it's entire runtime.

TLDR: Good plot, excellent fetish scenes and writing, characters are well developed, and well-realized game mechanics. Some unavoidable dark fetishes, so read the tags carefully before deciding to play.

Story and writing: The story is excellent. There are a lot of harem games with supernatural elements, and this is the most intriguing of them IMO. The game is structured to give you little pieces of the puzzle as you go through it, keeping you engaged in what is going on.
The writing is pretty good. The humor can get pretty goofy, and sometimes falls flat, and every once in a while the prose is redundant. But it scans well, and invokes genuine emotion; there is a scene with Sage that is one of the best I have ever read.

Characters: The MC is capable and sufficiently complex to be invested in without being a Marvin Stu. He is actually written as charming and intelligent with a few exceptions, in contrast to other games where we may be told a character has these qualities, but is written like a horny scarecrow. The girls are varied, (mostly) well-written, and you get a good sense of their motivations and personalities.

Game play: Open-world visual novel with the standard do-action-in-set-time slots style of play. There are times when you will find a slot in which you have nothing to do, but not often, even in this early stage of development. There are gameplay loops for investigation, sex scenes, seduction, and these feel engaging, but sometimes a bit disconnected from each other.

Sex and fetish content: This is the rare bird that lets the player indulge in heavier domination-type content without being an asshole rape-monster (though that is an option,so be warned!). There is sufficient context and build-up to the sex scenes that they feel earned and rewarding when they come without feeling like a grind. While many options are placeholders, you can see in the structure potential for a lot of variations in each scene, these have yet to be fully implemented. For HS generated graphics, the art is quite good.

Most of the games weaknesses may stem from its unfinished state, and the groundwork that is there shows a lot of ambition. I'll be putting some money towards this one, as I am very interested to see where it all goes!

I wanted to rate tis 1 star but i have never given a game 1star, i feel lied to, miss led and i feel like a bit dumb for being gullible.
I had been looking forwad to playing this game for a VERY long time. I alway see it as ne of the top rated games and this definetly raised the hype for me.
The further i got in this game the more stressed i got becuase the game just was not good. The humour is NOT funny and the characters look weird and goofy.
The best thing this has going for it is the story.

This game is a masterpiece, no joke, I have cummed more than 10 times during my gameplay. Girls are very sexy with different personalities ( I'm missing a hot military girl but whatever)
The history is will hook you from the beginning (thanks google translate), I wasn't a fan of detective roleplay games but this game made me one for sure.

This game is pretty rough. Something around the eyes of the models makes them look weird. There's some really jarring audio. The writing is lackluster. Clearly a lot of people like it so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt and I have nothing but respect for people making the games they want to make, but I found this one to be really rough around the edges in a way that made it off-putting.

This game started off great. But it quickly developed in the typical way where some elements of the game were left to "coming in next update" and than never addressed. I much more prefer the seasonal or episodic update scenario.
The renders and animation are great and the beginning of the story was interesting.
But by now it's becomin pretty bloated in my opinion and
Pacing is a major issue now.

The resent patron shenanigans is also a big red fleg for me. I understand developing a game alone takes time. But project management is important! Don't give your backers false expectations and hide delayment announcements behind paywalls.

First review here, not much the kind of guy who like to write a lot so I'll do it short but I really want to give a 5 star so here I am!

Really really good game here, I didnt expect much at first but oh man, it just became better and better the more I went further into the game.

Story, renders, the mood (especially during the second case) and even the cinematics from time to time were on point (for a renpy game ofc).
Even genuinely laughed at some situation.

If I have to tell negative aspects, it would maybe be about the pace of the game which felt a bit weird. Having a hint (like the yellow "!" on the characters but on the map itself) about where to go at X moment on the metro map depending on the quest would be nice?
Like you dont really know when a new case is available for exemple.
There are also some illogical moments (Mia being at 2 differents spots at the same time?)

Edit: Game evolved quite poorly sadly. I won't explain much because pretty much all newers reviews will explain it better than me. I hope the game will come back on its feets one day. But for now, that's not really it.

Impressive work!

I expected nothing after a series of really bad games here in the "zone" so the relief was real when I realized Deviant Anomalies is different.

The renders/ overall presentation is AWESOME! The UI runs fluid, the navigation is intuitive and easy (since the game is NOT filled with a needless mass of (emty) rooms and locations).

The story is very entertaining (even though the "one of a kind"-MC isn't unique..), the women are HOT (unfortunately the diversity of "shapes" is not great- we got MILFS, Petites and "Students", all with an oversized bust).

The free-roaming + grind is very well crafted (it's not "grindy" at all!). I also like the fact, that new locations get unlocked once you NEED them, so there is no overburdening with places after the introduction.

I highly recommend this game, left a bookmark and am eager to seeing more of this.

I'm rating what this game has the power to be, not what it is at the moment.
It's currently a flat 4 out of 5.

The story is fresh. While it has all the tropes of a porn game, it still works. Many games simple repeat the process, this one develops them.

The writing doesn't try to be funny all the time, and while it keeps the cheerful atmosphere all around it doesn't go over to top into obnoxiousness. It is a good balance of comedy and lewdness that is unique to the top games rated here.

Models/renders are great if considering honey select limitations. Average overall. Characters and pacing is top notch.

What it desperately lacks is content to bridge the gap of being a sandbox. It has zero reason for being so at the time, navigation is bad and the passing of time just a chore, all the supposed content and randomness we expect in one is nonexistent. The "quest mode" mini sandboxes work, so I know the creator can make the one encompassing everything work too.

I'll consider support this one, gonna keep a close eye on it.
