Maybe more accurately their should just be a way to program it so the player doesn't try and select a red path and get stuck
I've thought about writing a script that counts the number of non-empty paths that exist in that branch whenever you hover a link, but I've not taken the time to learn JavaScript yet.

Or better yet, counts how many real endings exist on hover.

I'll likely get around to it sooner or later.

Man, love your stories, especially the video game stuff with Cyan!
but... The changelog numbers make no sense anymore lol.
Small potatoes, I come back to check this out every few months, keep up the good work! Especially considering this is a passion project.

Public Release: World b4, Mundanity a48

Well we have various and sundry updates this month, scattered about various of the Devious World files and Devious Mundanity!

Devious World F
  • Main: Theresa has a new starting option for Honey's concerns.
  • Main: Cyan has a highly predictable new game in her VR rig.
Devious Eric
  • Main: There's a new sim alteration available in the pure debug Ranma sim. (Tweaked replacement of unstarted "Top Swap" scenario.) The Ultra-Casual Sex option is also started.
  • Main: Eric-Cypher can tell Arana yes, he's rethought her offer.
Devious Jamie
  • Main: There's a new preinstalled game on Jamie's VR rig.
Devious Mundanity
  • Main: Kona can choose the Adventurer class card.
  • Main: Michika can decide to make for the shore ahead of the rapids.
  • Main: Leo has a new task completion job.
  • Main: Added new male character Wolf.
  • Main: Michika has an equivalent of Leo's new job, sorted into her open jobs.
  • Main: Michika can choose to be referred to the "milking clinic" to get over her case of the Horny.
File is or . (I also actually updated the .)

And with that, we're halfway through the year. Feels like it's both rushed right by and been closer to a decade, huh? Or is that just me?

Public Release August 2025

Hey errybody!

First things first, I'll say up front that I had real problems settling down to any one thing this month. Just one of those periods where my brain's doing a thing (which was also reflected in a lot of insomnia). It started to settle down over the last few days so hopefully the coming month will be better.

Second, I made the decision to remove a couple of characters from Devious Mundanity, for the time being. Basically ones that haven't really gone anywhere since their introduction and don't have much content. They may be back when I actually find ideas for them, but for now I thought it best not to let them be a "tease".

Third, I added three new characters. Hopefully they won't suffer the same fate, I'm tweaking the formula with them to give them more options, but we'll just have to see. Guess we all just have to accept that sometimes I've gotta throw stuff at the wall and see if it sticks. If you want to read more about the reasoning for the removal and the new characters, it's in the month's log on the update page.

Now, all that out of the way, the actual content:
Devious World F
  • Main: Cyan has a new urban legend to suggest Rina investigate.
  • Main: Cass can agree to go to Heather's ranch with her.
  • Main: On the teen dating site, Cyan can say she just wants to make new friends.
  • Main: Celeste has a new job listing.
  • Main: Cyan has a new email to look into.
  • Main: Theresa can observe her house looks lonely coming back from taking Honey to the airport.
Devious World M
  • Main: Mike has a new job offer at the start.
Devious Jamie
  • Main: Jamie can start his fooling around with Maya by kissing her.
  • Main: He can also decide he wants a particular gift from his mom for his birthday.
  • Main: Jamie has another new VR game, Lords of the Savannah that he can try.
Devious Mundanity
  • Main: Michika can choose to go adventuring on the way to the dragon's lair.
  • Removed characters: Exploratory Drone 17H, Jason , Fiona, Jane, and Saraelle.
  • New characters: Female Rykka, male Rallyn, and other Fenrir.
  • Main: Michika has a reinforcement job as a teacher's assistant.
  • Main: While trapped in the Pervcursor sim, Michika can submit to the dommy dragon guy.
  • Main: Female Leo can decide to take a staycation after turning down Seiun's offer.

What the goddamn f do I click on?

I see:

DJ b5.thml
DM a49.html
DW b5-F.html
DW b5-M.html

I am only interested in playing as a hetero male on the latest version with the most content. I started playing HTML games for the first time the day before yesterday, and this is my first time seeing four html files in a single game. The changelog notes don't help much. I am guessing that 'Devious World F' = 'DW b5-F.html' and 'Devious World M' = 'DW b5-M.html'. But then which one is 'Devious Jamie', which one is 'Devious Mundanity'. Hell, which one do I even f click in since there seems to be one that is Mike and one that is Jamie and I don't know what gender Mundanity is. Why the hell is there no freaking guide on the OP that explains what is what? Confusing as hell. It's fine if you want to make a game in this weird fashion, but the least you can do is make an easy to understand guide for newcomers so they know what the hell is going on.
Sadly, this game is made for the writer, not for the reader.

The project was getting too big for the compiler to read so it had to be split into separate files to get it to work.
DW-M is male characters (minus Eric and Jamie who had to be split off due to their size, and are DE and DJ).
DW-F is female characters.
DM is Devious Mundanity, which contains male, female, and intersex characters who start in magic/sci-fi settings as opposed to the more grounded (at the start) setting of Devious World characters.

Also not every file is included in each update, only the ones with new content, so you will have to find older downloads for any routes your missing, particularly the side projects like SCPX, or Cult of Layla.

I didn't fully realize that. That's actually broken.

Like, either make a custom compiler or switch engines at this point.

I give up. I started off as Michael on the DW-M and three pages later in which I only had a single choice, I met a dead end. End of story. I could go back and play the other guy that I did not want to play as, but I can tell it has a lot of missing, broken options as well. I thought with 44 pages of comments and the game having been out for 7.5 years that it would have more content than this. Oh well. On to the next game.

Some paths run super deep with many branches, some are linear, some dead end immediatly. Just have to trial and error to find the complete one. For male Jamie and Eric have the most content, hence why they had to be split into their own files.

Public Release: World b6 (F and J), Mundanity a50

Mid-week update! On the actual first! Well I'm going on a weekend trip starting tomorrow so I didn't want to make everyone wait or try to update from the road.
Another kind of "meh" month but I guess it averages out kind of okay. Again a fair few false starts and a hard time buckling down to the spicy stuff, but I think that may be tied to the fact that I seem to be having one of the longer stretches of insomnia I've ever suffered in my life. (Yeah it's not fun.) When I get back from the trip I may need to try resetting my day (I have a weird technique for it I read somewhere once, but it does actually work).
Anyway! One or two paths still had something pretty decent, I think, and here we go:
Devious World (Female)
  • Main: Cyan can get interrupted when perusing her new magic book.
  • Main: Celeste has a new job listing at the start, Sparkle Star Park.
Devious Jamie
  • Main: Girl-Jamie can now go on a business trip with her father or stay at home with her mother.
  • Main: Jamie can choose the Admin Panel for his Worldwalker ability.
  • Main: Jamie can find he bought a dreamcatcher at the junk shop.
Devious Mundanity
  • Main: Continuing female Leo's job to retrieve the Lunar Amulet.
  • Main: Rallyn can decide to work on his certifications.
  • Main: Rykka can choose to upgrade her Legal License.
