Sexting games aren't exactly uncommon on F95, which, as (theoretically) a fan of the genre, would seem - at first - to be a good thing. If I want to text fictional people to get fictional nudes there is ample selection; here I am, at the well of perverse desires, with ample enough to satiate my thirst.
In reality, chat sim games are not so much a genre as they are the dumping grounds for every solo dev's first project (and it would seem, first foray into the english language). Stilted dialogue, characters as envisioned by misanthropes with more patreon money than sense, games coded so poorly that you pray your computer doesn't gain sentience just to kill you for running them, and art best described as "unfortunate".
Dirty Chatting avoids all of these pitfalls. It might well be the first chat sim porn game that I actually enjoyed playing, rather than stomached for the framing device.
The art is cute, I think the image editing mechanic is fun and not too hard on my suspension of disbelief, current headcanon is this is all accurate predictive AI rather than computer with superpowers but it's not make or break for me either way. The lack of color is probably convenient for developing for remotely feasible deadlines and it's pretty to look at regardless.
Clementine is good love interest, she is at times trite but it comes off as endearing, it definitely seems like an intentional decision, rather than the fault of bad writing, she's your nerdy but not utterly irony poisoned ex-classmate and she comes off as real in a way most porn game characters don't. A big reason for this is that the game - so far - has a clear consistency in narrative voice, which is undoubtey helped by the pacing.
It's early days, but when I finished the demo and I hadn't yet gotten several nudes from Celementine I was happily surprised. The breakneck pacing of most sexting games completely ruins the point of the genre - seducing characters. If after message #3 I'm already getting texts about how many children we're having together then I might as well google big titties. At least you can avoid the dialogue in porn. So far this game has kept a medium burn and it's far better for it. I really hope this stays the case.
Dirty Chatting actually qualifies as a game as well! not a choose your own adventure book with tits drawn in the margins. Granted, it's mostly finding things in pictures and fiddling with sliders, but it's a fine line to walk before people start complaining about game in their porn. This game constitutes above the bare minimum, and playing with sliders is fun.
As of posting it's very new game, so if this ends up being another tragedy of the genre I'll have been rightly shown up for my earnest review of a porn game (see it's fine if you lampshade it, that makes it less sad), but only time will tell. In the mean time, kudos to the dev for making a game that is actually playable, I'm looking forward to more.
