Do stories really matter?

I just wanted to know if I'm the only one doing this or if I'm not alone, but most of the time whenever I download a porn game I find myself trying to get invested in the plot and story since the start, but once I detect that a game has an uninspired or not creative story that's just all straightforward, I just start skipping to the lewd parts of the story and enjoy those until I orgasm

And the reason why I'm asking is that I find a lot of comments on games that just recommend downloading the CGI for games that do have that instead of downloading the full game and enjoying that instead, but I even though I skip the story in most games I play, I find myself able to connect relations to one another and I find it knowing who the characters are and how they feel and what they say whilst looking at the lewds is SO much hotter than just looking at the lewds alone, as it adds a personality and maybe knowing that a person was so innocent but they gave in to the lust is just super nice and adds a lot to just the pics and lewds

Am I alone here? How do you guys deal with stories that may be boring/unoriginal and downloading the gallery vs playing the game?

Gonna assume it's only about VN style games. In my opinion, in an H game the story is what gives the sex scenes their flavor.

What you said here is what I mean. When the story is good, you get immersed in it, and that adds to the flavor of the sex scenes.

A good story makes the sex scene much better than the sex scene on its own.

Being a good artist, programmer, writer, etc. is difficult and takes time.
Being all of them together is nearly impossible.

Games, after all, is a combination of story, visuals, gameplay, sounds, code. This could be solved by creating a team and developing together with people who can take over different sides of project, but some will ask to be paid, so you already need to have finances to invest, if you're making a team.

Finding people who can do everything is like finding a person who can play 5 different musical instruments, or someone who can play music, draw paintings, while riding a bicycle and juggling rabbits.

This is heavily subjective, but for me the plot is possibly the most important element of a game. A plot doesn't even have to be good, nor does it have to be unique. I can easily enjoy a "bad" or stereotypical story as long as the plot isn't too stupid, or it doesn't contain several story elements that I generally dislike (ex; bitchy elder sister).

And honestly, I find myself skipping sex scenes often, or at least skimming through them. It's pretty rare at this point for a game to have sex scenes that I haven't seen a thousand times. I do occasionally get aroused, but I can't even think of the last time I played a porn game for porn.

Story is what makes a game lively. Without a good story for a game, the game will seem dull and out of place. Good games with great storyline are Skyrim and Fallout 4. There are many others but these are just examples.

I think there are generally good games that have a love story which i would consider for a good story in a game. Making me feel i am invested in the story. So i would play a game like that.
Other games are the opposite and focus heavily on sex where the story doesn't matter at all but is a construct for the sex that is about to happen.
I kind of like them for what they are but there isn't really a story but a rail that moves you from one choice to another.
As much as i like games with interaction i really dislike that it's always about a choice or exploration. Its gotten old pretty quick.
I actually liked Demon Boy but it got abandoned so it won't matter anymore.
Though it had a story i was more interested in the actual action. I think i am not the only one that was looking forward to something to happen.

Gallery? Mm.. i never actually thought about that. Seems reasonable. :)

Storylines to me are what matters the most actually. I'd sometimes even skip the sex scenes if they aren't really arousing to me. But the stories, I always try to pay attention to. There have been games where I've kind of lost interest in playing altogether because the stories aren't gripping. Likeable, relatable characters are also very important to me as well. I really don't like playing as an asshole, or someone who is stupid, a complete pushover, or disrespectful toward his romantic partners. I also don't want to play games where the love interests have shitty personalities.

If the story is good and the characters are also likeable, then the likelihood of my getting in the sexy mood (as it were) also increases, but it definitely helps if the girls are visually inviting, too. But if the story is shit, then the whole experience becomes more of a drag than anything else, at which point I start to feel like I don't want to go through the trouble of clicking through the game even more just to get to the sex scenes. Too much effort for me. If I really wanted to jerk off then I would go straight onto Pornhub where I could find girls whose physical attributes would actually fit my personal preferences, unlike an overwhelming majority of female characters in these VN's.

Having said that, I've found that good storytelling can really compensate for the visual side of the things. I prefer girls with small boobs and in most AVN's, they are kind of rare-ish. But if the story is really good, then I don't really mind big boobs (within reason of course,) nearly as much. That's why I appreciated Holly from Leap Of Faith. In fact, she's my favourite character from that game besides Lexi. Alice the mother from Now & Then ditto, and I'm not even into the whole "milf" thing. Both great stories, both very charming characters (to me at least). To be fair, I didn't exactly jerk off to the Alice scenes, but still thought they were nice scenes nonetheless: definitely meaningful which I like.

In this article I elaborate on this this subject, but in a nutshell: while highly attractive models and great art can do a great job of getting people hot, a story is a power multiplier, helping players/readers suspend the disbelief that the characters presented to them are imaginary. And when a player/reader "believes" the characters are real (in some sense, of course), their player's experience is much more intense.

It really just depends on the type of game. Though if you were to ask if it was important for most genres, the answer would be no.

Honestly I play games only for the story. And I prefer games that emphasize it and use sex scenes as a dash of spice to enhance and compliment it rather than games that have the plot as an excuse to show sex scenes.

Games that have a good story are more interesting and are more well thought out. Rather than having a game that just focuses on just fucking throughout the whole game. :ROFLMAO:

Those work as well. Like there are loads of sex simulator games going from real simple in flash to really complex VR stuff and that's fine by me. What I dislike is games with a really weak excuse plot that only serves to push you from sex scene to sex scene.

You make a good point. Every game is different.

imo, story isn't important, it's often used as a vague pretext for the various character to bang, it's often drowned in text diarrhea, the plot is over-complicated when it doesn't need to be and it's distracting from the main purpose of the game (wich is porn), that being said / being poorly made doesn't mean no one should never do it, I think it's just time and efforts that a good lot of peoples are just gonna skip through to get to what they are there for.

maybe a side-thing with books such as in WOW, where characters that do so wishes can just stop and read the books that give information about the lore, tell stories and trivia etc. instead of endlessely keep the player hostage in unending walls of text and lock them in a story they have no care in the world for,

unless you're making a serious story (mainly focused on the story) with a couple of sexe scenes in it (like the "pretty woman" movie) focus on the story, if you make a porn game, focus on the porn.

I think you nailed it when you made the distinction of "porn game". Basically there are two types of game on this site, porn games and adult games. And they cater to two different demographics. One being people who want to have sex with them self and the other people who want to experience a story with adult (read: sexual relationship related) themes.

And that distinction is very much a brick wall. It's non negotiable. And what matters is not which the dev picks but that he picks ONE and only one and than does the thing he picked right.

If it's about a story make it a bloody good story and than learn to use the sex scenes as part of that story to make a point and not as porn. If it's about the porn make it the hottest porn you can and don't bother with a story at all. The moment devs start mixing the two it's basically trying to mix oil and water. It just won't work. Because whilst both components are there in both types of game the purpose of each component is radically different in them.

it got to a point where i unironically started only caring about the story and not the h-scenes which is why i started playing porn games in the first place, an example is treasure of nadia, sure meeting the hotties was great but as the story picked up and references to lust epidemic came around i was hooked on the story that i didnt care for the sex scenes, i was more interested in the mystery surrounding cape vedra
