What bugs me about kinetic novels is that they are like branching visual novels / games, except that they aren't.
I have difficulty dealing with that.
Whereas in real novels, it doesn't bother me generally. Certainly also in novels there can be certain storylines which I don't like but I am better in dealing with the lack of choice. In novels, the lack of choice triggers my imagination: what would I have done instead of what the MC did? How would that work out?
But in kinetic novels, I don't get triggered like that. I just get frustrated and end up quitting. At this point I'm not even bothering with kinetic novels anymore...
