I'm curious if you guys like seeing your character's face in game or do you prefer to never see your character? Do you mind if you see your characters body in first or third person? I setup a poll. If I missed a certain answer, please clarify in a reply, thanks.

I'm thinking the reason people don't like seeing their characters face is because in most of these games there is no character customization, so sometimes it's better to leave it to the imagination.

Honestly I don't mind either way. Only one thing I really dislike, that is dependent on view, is when MCs in first person go to kiss. Quite a few games out there where the person being kissed is super up close to the point that you can't really see their whole face. I understand that would be realistic but it just doesn't look good.

The way facelessness is implemented in these 1 dev porn games usually affects the game negatively. They're no Half life where you could conceivably immerse yourself and pretend to be the protagonist. It limited the games narrative potential but you gained something also, in porn games you just lose and gain nothing.

It depends on the MC's story.

If the MC is designed to be 'undefined', so that you can imagine yourself as being in the situation, and it's a POV story, then I don't mind seeing the MC's body as if from his own eyes. Also, in this situation, if the MC is designed to be more 'generic', i.e. no highly distinctive body features (read: massive cock, huge pecs, etc.), then it's easier for people to project themselves into the story. In this situation, 3rd person camera angles don't really 'fit', although you can squeeze in a few mirror shots here and there.

If the MC has a significant backstory, a defined skillset/role, etc. then I don't mind seeing what the MC looks like, since he (or she) is not supposed to be me. In this case, using third person as well as first person camera angles is fine.

Whatever you, commit to it, if you do a 1st person game with minimum protagonist, keep it as bland and generic as possible, don't force the player to do things or tell them how they should feel. And focus on the other characters, not having a protagonist mean there will be much more attention to the side characters.

If you do a protagonist with face at least make him/her look presentable, a protagonist is someone people must root for, a creepy goblin creature will turn of more people than turn on.

Personally speaking, lately I'm starting to hate the fact that I can see the face of the actual MC in many of the porn/hentai games and such. Things like My Legacy for example - where, as far as I remember, you don't see at all the face of the MC but just his body in some scenes - are a good thing for me. Probably because... in a certain sense I want to feel like me in first person, could be the protagonist of that story, and that's why most of the time I even search for games that can make me create a char of my own - I mean, name of course, because unless it's an RPG like The Elder Scrolls and such (but H-RPG of course), the body is already that, the "default" one. And the same thing it's happening even with the hentai: I always search for those types that, if they don't give you a POV vision, at least they give you a faceless MC.

That being said though, I still play nowadays games that have char already created and named, but it's becoming really hard for me.

It's like eating chocolates or hamburgers or having sex with multiply people.. All in moderation. As OhWee eluded to it depends on teh story and also when/where the MC is in the story. I hate POV only or over used MC's in the whole game.
IF the MC looks like a 14yr old boy and suppose to be an adult of 18yrs then i also do not want to even play the game. There is such a game i am thinking of right now.
I think if the MC is a hot chick many a person would want to see that ass in the game.

I hate seeing my MC's face more to the point. Especially if he is going to look like a 12 year old dipshit or just as bad a smug git!

I don't mind seeing a back shot or side view but a front shot no. though sometimes i would like to be able to adjust the way the MC looks like hair color or length.

Interesting results. As someone who has been thinking about possibly making a game in the future, this is some good insight. I guess I have some further questions.

1. A game where you never see the MC face, only first and third person body so far. MC comes to a mirror and you have the option to look in the mirror and see your face. Either option (look or don't) has no impact on the game, it would simply be to see the MC's face. Would this appeal to both people who answered "Yes" and "No, body in first and third only"?
2. For people who answered "no" options, how do you like kissing scenes being handled? A close up of the face and lips puckered and maybe a tongue being stuck out?
