Do you like to customize the name of the MC?

I keep the default name whenever possible (ie, when the dev gives us one instead of leaving it blank or calling them Player) to avoid giving my MC a name used by another character

On my first playthrough of FF7 I played long enough to learn Red XIII's real name then, when my shitty third party memory card got corrupted and wiped all my saves, decided to give him his real name only to later read the line "I am Nanaki, also known as Nanaki"
Fixed names work just fine for me.
It is occasionally funny to use something like BigJohnson or Fucktoy as a name for the PC, but a fixed name works just as well.

I like setting a name if I get the option. It's not the worst thing in the world if I can't, but I tend to think of it as a very minor positive feature.

If I am playing a porn game I always want a nameable protagonist even if they have a fixed personality.
Bitch I don't want to play a fucking game where I have to hear a relatives, friends, or someone I hates name constantly when it comes to sex.
Japanese and fantasy names are also a fine alternative if you are doing a fixed name

It depends on what the game is doing with the story:
If the MC already has an established personality that I can't change, and is a fully formed character, I'd rather the dev just named them. It feels really token and stupid to have the only thing you can decide about "your" character be the name.
If the game has a lot of customization and decision making for the MC, I, of course, think the option to name the MC is essential. If for no other reason than to make different playthroughs feel like truly different characters.
I can tell you that I hate when the dev forces you to name the MC. I'm talking blank box, no default name. Bonus frowning from me if you aren't even introduced to the MC before being forced to name them.

I prefer to use the default if there is one that's not "Anon" and if the default isn't rude or stupid, else I usually use one of a few fixed names but never my own. Never self-insert and prolly couldn't self-insert in most games if I tried.
These games have choices you'd make in real life? I just thought game devs were too asocial to write real people.
I have a sort of character with an existing head canon which I always use. it sort of gives the character more 'weight' than what the game usually writes into the mc.
I also change all stripper names into more fitting ones if possible. most devs seem to be horrible at names. 'candy' etc are not immersive names for housewives nor a naive little sisters.
