Do you prefer NSFW games with actual story and gameplay or you just want something to jerk off to?

Hi everyone!

I'm a game developer looking to get into the adult games space and drafting out a game now - one of the most important decisions is how much of a game the game actually needs or wants to be

So what do you think? Do you usually engage in the actual gameplay of adult games? Or do you boot it up, maybe look for a gallery unlock or something, and just jerk off to it? What's your perception about the general audience here in the site and of other communities?

On a somewhat related note, I'm thinking on leering the game into casual gameplay, maybe similar to Project Lovecraft, in the sense that you unlock things by playing the game, but with more gameplay to it, maybe some sort of management game (kinda like game dev tycoon? in the sense that you manage a company of sorts); do you think that would be interesting? Considering management will actually be interesting and not some sort of weird one-lame-strategy shit

So what do you think?
And you, what do you think?

With near to 8 millions members, yet less than 0.1% that will see your thread, and less than 0.001% that will possibly give you an answer, you'll still have more or less as many who will tell you that they don't care about the story, than those who will tell you that without gameplay they'll not care about your game, than those who will tell you that they don't care about all this as long as they can fap.

In the end, you'll not know more and have to decide by yourself what you want to make. So, why not jump the useless intermediary step, and decide right from the start what kind of game you want to make?

I would categorize R-18 games in 3 main types:

1. Solid games with R-18 content as extra: just an overall good game that stands out without the need for R-18 content.

2. Good games that merge R-18 into story/gameplay: a game that has a solid story and/or gameplay which has been sexualized in a way that (sort of) makes sense within their own universe.

3. Quick fap game: self-explanatory

Personally, I like a good story that doesn't feel extremely forced in order to include R-18 content. With that said, good gameplay can certainly make up for shitty/non-existent story. Honestly, quick fap type of games are kind of meh for me, because I'd rather go look up content directly instead of playing a game that takes a while and blue balls me in the process.

I would say you're better off thinking about what you like in a R-18 game, and act upon it. I'm sure there's people with similar taste, and you enjoying the content will increase the odds of making a good game.

Personally, I prefer something with a good story (at least something to keep me interested). As someone that had a lot of time to think on this matter, I've come to find that just having good writing in general is enough to keep people entertained. Even before I released my game, I was worried no one would care about the plot. I had spent around six months planning and coming up with drafts for a good setting and likeable characters, always having the worry in the back of my mind that hardly anyone would care.

After releasing the first few versions of my game, I saw that people had actually enjoyed the story, so much so that some people seemed more focused on the plot itself than any of the H-Content. So yes, I would always recommend putting at least a bit of effort into your writing. While not everyone will be interested, a good chunk of people definitely will. Hell, some people might even get turned off by a bad story. Good gameplay doesn't always do it for some. Then again, that can always change depending on the type of game you're making.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you want to do. If you think you have a vision for something, then just go with it. Every game has its niche, and it's impossible to make everyone happy.

I think you need a good mix of story and "action". Grinding should be avoided as much as possible. To me it looks like a dev padding things out until they get the next set of renders done.

I like some story, makes it extra exciting if there is some history between the characters fucking. If its too easy it just feels empty.

Gameplay - must have, and it should take up at least half of the total playtime
My fetishes - must have
Dialogue - Should be good, I'm not going to enjoy badly-written interactions
Plot - Don't care as long as it's not noticeably retarded

If i wanted something to get me off i'd just go to nhentai or similar site, why would i waste my time here lmao. :ROFLMAO::coffee:
So of course i'm interested in good gameplay and story.
With porn on the side, preferably seamlessly fused into both the gameplay and the story.
Karryn's Prison is a good example, they fused the porn seamlessly into the gameplay, their game doesn't have much of a story tho but it still worked out fine for them evidently.

But here's a question for you in turn, can you even confidently say that you are capable of creating engaging gameplay that people won't get bored of in 5 seconds flat? :sneaky::coffee: Do you have the imagination? The creativity? The skill? The dedication?
Can you pull off something we haven't seen a thousand times over by now? :sneaky::coffee:
If the answer is no then don't even start, that way you and everyone else won't waste their time for nothing.:coffee:

Story - mostly to know characters, what are their wants\donts\fetishes etc. No need for some complex detective story.

Gameplay - mostly focused on relationship changes, sex fetishes, repeatable controlled sex scenes. I've seen alot of games with complex classic gameplay and completely linear predefined sex scenes - thats a waste of potential. For example, Rogue-Like:Evolution has great control in sex scenes (while lacking in graphics) and its the most complex part of gameplay.

I like VNs or games with a good story, ideally with a main plot that isn't just about a relationship. But it doesn't have to be slow burn for me.

Gameplay and story are pretty different audiences, though. That doesn't mean you can't combine the 2 well, but your question is going to get responses from 3 different audiences.

I prefer a slow burn romance/porn with plot.
Ever given Talothral's games a try?

I enjoyed playing Summer's gone, I believe it would fit into the first type you mentioned, what other great games would you recommend in that category?

I think gameplay is best when it reflects the sex scenes and general theme of the game. like the Tamagotchi style mechanics in teaching feeling or the brothel management in monster girl club bifrost. think about what style of gameplay would suit your story and theme best.

Prefer a decent story, but the best is when the smut and the story combine with the gameplay to make a complete and enjoyable package.

I vastly prefer story and gameplay in my lewd games. Stuff like Once Ever After, Slave's sword or melty's quest I have enjoyed way more than basically just 'here's some tiddays'.

I prefer the game to have a story, otherwise why even to play a game? It's best when everything is combined into one. That's why I like battle restraints and things like that, so I can enjoy my fetishes while I play. Sadly most porn games can't do even one thing good, or if they do one good thing all else is bad.
If I have to say there is game which integrates gameplay with the story and the battle is not completely boring is Karryn's Prison, it has a very good battle system, sadly lacks on story, I mean there is a "story" but it's not that good. Now if we had a game with multiple characters with their own story, who evolve throughout the game, which is interesting like in Demons Roots (for example), and the battles were like in Karryn's Prison (maybe not the same, but better than what currently Demons Roots has) that would be the perfect porn game. (though if it's made in 3D in RPG like style, would be even better)

I love games like desert stalker, I feel like it's the perfect combination of story/choices/porn/rpg'ness they have done it so well imo

I hate games with a grind, not a huge fan of those games when you are in a house and you have to click on door's at certain times of day because that's when you can talk the person or click on doors around the house to find people and a map to click on a shop to earn money to click back on house go to bedroom use the PC to buy something so many unnecessary un needed gameplay loops I've seen it copy pasted from so many games, the only games I've seen the grind do right is Taffy tales, Summer time saga
