So as most of you probably already know most of the MC's for these porn games are supposed to be self-inserts that's why you can name most of them yourself. But I personally don't self-insert what I do is I think of myself as a third party wingman.

Firstly I basically name all namable MC's Jack (That's not my name) and let me tell you Jack is my fucking bro that's my homie right there I love that man and I wanna see him get laid. While I'm going through the game I'm cheering my boy Jack on I'm his hype man okay and I'm here to give him a helping hand to get some hot bitches.

This is basically me: "You see that MAN over there I raised that boy, he's got a good ass dick and he's gonna fuck that pussy up."

When my boy Jack is successfully flirting with one of the LI's: "Ooooooo, you see that shit, that's my boy and he's killin it just like he's about to kill that pussy."

When my boy Jack get's the LI and gets laid: "Get that shit my boy. You see that dick right there that's a good ass dick and he's dickin her down good. WOOOOO! Fuck that shit up my boy."

For me....i just can't self insert myself as the MC because in my mind its just ridiculous (not to offend anyone who do tho)
so i guess i'm using the third person point of view where i know everything and wish i can use a character that i can use to punch the MC when they did something dumb xD

I mean... those are games, aren't they? So I just want to beat the game. And if that means my MC should score, let be it. I don't need to identify myself with the MC nor support him/her as a friend, I just want to discover the story the dev has created and the MC is just a tool to advance that story and get to the endgame. I guess it's seeing Jack fuck that's arousing. It's sort of like I put in a lot of work with Jack and the payoff is satisfying to see my boy get his rewrard that we worked towards. Which is also why I avoid ones where the MC is getting Netorared or Cucked because you got me fucked up if you think I'm just gonna stand by and see my boy Jack get done dirty like that. I'm not kink shaming but I'm not letting that shit happen to my boy Jack.

I cast Yes and No. It really depends on the story and the game/novel design. Narrator perspective, setting, genre etc. Most corporate VNs nowadays are more written like the reader is an observer while indies are more written for self-inserts. So I try to go with the flow.

for me it seems self-inserting is the obvious way to get the most emotional response for a story, and I can't see why I'd want to settle for anything less. I'm not reading these VNs to gain factual knowledge, I'm looking for the maximum of my chosen kink. that's gonna only happen if I'm the most engaged with it, which is decided by how well I can identify with the mc.

I can't identify with a woman or a guy allowing themselves to be fucked, it's just not in me. more power to people who can, but how bout not projecting weird anger issues on people who express what they like or don't like sexually. (this last bit wasn't aimed at the OP).

I always name porn MCs with the first name that pops into my head when I see them. If he looks like a Kevin, he's Kevin now. When games insist on making me pick a name without seeing the character, I sometimes even restart when I see their face so I can give them an appropriate name.

I never treat it like a self-insert, I'm just an observer who can guide the story.

Now that I think about it, I actually don't. I mean, I always play the games and (literally ONLY in dating sims) I think of how it'd be like to personally date the people in them sometimes, but I never really self-insert. A lot of games, I'm more a voyeur, mostly cos I'm literally only there for the porn. But in other games, I never self-insert even when I put in my own name. I may have just stated the same thing twice and not made sense... I'll clarify.

When I play the game, I play it. If it's porn, I watch it. If it's a dating sim, I think of the choices and maybe oggle the cute guys/girls in it. But that's the point where I'm focusing: I never think of me as the OC. I think of the characters, of dating them, fucking them, maybe even just being friends with them, but I'm never that character. I might do SOME of the stuff they do in my head, but I'm not them. And I never have been. At most, I wish I was them.

I never really considered how I played these things before. I'm not a wingman like you say, but more just imposing my own view of correct dating on their love life (which makes me more like the person they go to for advice before a date, I guess?).
