SimCity? You're not the city. Job Simulator? You're not the job. Euro Truck Simulator? You're not the truck. Microsoft Flight Simulator? You're not the flight. And those are the names of actual games. What is actually simulated in this game is the dominatrix, as she acts upon the player.
This is going to turn into a whole 'thing' then, is it? Alright. Let's do it.
SimCity. You in a way -are- the city. You are in control of the city. You guide it, you direct it. Everything that is the 'city' is you. If SimCity followed Dominatrix Simulator naming rules, you would be someone living in the city, or some single part of the city and the game would do things to you, not someone actively engaged in the act of city creation and guidance.
Job Simulator. This one does follow the standard convention. You -are- the job in a sense. You are the person doing the job. From the game's info blurb itself "step into the "Job Simulator" to learn what it was like 'to job'. " This follows the same convention as the Mechanic Simulator and Police Simulator examples I used above.
Euro Truck Simulator. ...yeah. You -are- the truck, actually. Just a truck who can also run a business and hire people to drive other trucks, or if we do go one step removed, you're the person controlling the truck. Regardless, your 'role' is centralized on the title of the game. But really "European Truck Driver Simulator" is a bit long and awkward, but both convey the same point. If it followed Dominatrix Simulator's logic, the player would be working at a warehouse receiving job.
MS Flight Sim. You are engaged in -flight-. You are the flyer, you are the one actively pursuing actions relating to flight.
So, do you understand the point here? I mean, I'm sure you can go dig up 2 or 3 that also defy the convention laid out by other 'simulator' games, but they're also going against the norm for what expectations should be with the naming convention versus the vast majority. This game would have been better named "Submissive Simulator" to better convey what the game was.
I can't believe I spent over 5 minutes typing this, but I was bored and here we are.
