Drip - Patreon Alternative

In the wake of the patreon terms of service smack down I've been keeping an eye out for monthly crowd funding alternatives. Today I discovered that Kickstarter will finally be updating and improving their site with an offshoot called "Drip."

It's currently in a trial phase and "invitation only" but I thought it would be good to get it on peoples radar.
I took a look at it's Terms and, so far, it seems like it would be adult game friendly.

You’re responsible for the content you post, and you’re vouching to us that it’s all okay to use.

• We can use the content you’ve submitted. Personally, it's things like this I was searching in the ToS :

"If you follow a link to another website, what happens there is between you and them — not us."

It's at the opposite of Patreon position where you can't even put a link to a site with content banned on Patreon.



"We have the right to decide who’s eligible to use Drip. We can cancel accounts or decline to offer our Services. (Especially if you’re abusing them.) We can change our eligibility criteria at any time. If these things are prohibited by law where you live, then we revoke your right to use Drip in that jurisdiction."

Here again it's obvious, but it clear a blur seen above (and not quoted) where they talk about Law's violation without saying which Law ; the one of their country, of your country or of whoever complain's country ? Now it's clear, you must follow the Law of your own country.
And like they'll never know every laws of every country, technically it's your responsibility to not create something illegal in your country. As long as there's no complain coming from your country and stating otherwise, they'll probably assume that you don't break any law.


Obviously there's also the mandatory :
"When you back or create a project, you’re also agreeing to the payment processor’s terms of service."

For me, it seem "adult content" compliant. In fact, the ToS even look like they tried their best to cover their ass and state that they aren't more than a neutral intermediary like a payment processor can be. You are sole responsible of your acts and they assume that you'll not break the Law of your country.

I disagree, those are, for the most part, pretty standard terms of service if you compare with patreon or something equivalent.
BUT as Anne O' pointed out about, these TOS are modified in a way to be very hands off. Far more friendly to adult content devs than patreon.
Moreover this pertains to content that you upload. ie. advertising, demo, etc. A dev doesn't have to upload the final release to this site if it's a concern. Which there terms also allow for as Anne pointed out.

as for the comments about Anita Sarkeesian, i understand the knee jerk reaction i suppose, but considering the above TOS points that have been made i think it's pretty clear that just because this a site like this hosts content doesn't mean they endorse it. but i suppose we will have to wait and see.

Yes, the intent behind this part mostly is "we will use your pictures to promote your page, and don't want you to start making a big mess because of this, nor we want some random guy going after our ass because you stole all his work for your project". As for the "modify" part, its because they can also use your pictures as part of an ads banner and things like that.

It don't even mean that they agree with what she say. Whatever you like her or hate her, she became a celebrity. So, not only she'll make a lot and 5% is for them, but it also is free advertising as well as a trust certificate.

This is from their 'dos and don'ts' - "Don’t offer prohibited items. Don’t offer any rewards that are illegal, violate any of Drip’s policies, rules, or guidelines, or violate any applicable law, statute, ordinance, or regulation."

I looked and looked and could not find Drip’s policies, rules, or guidelines

I am skeptical this will be the answer.

If the freedom of links to other sites is real and does not change then for me, no matter the restrictions on some fetish etc ... As long as we can broadcast a few naked the rest can largely be offered via an external site, unlike with Patreon.

And if that's the case it would clearly be the best alternative for me because it's an add-on to a structure already in place (Kickstarter), with potentially enough customers to be viable and not just a small site that would start.
