This game is clearly inspired by Dungeon Keeper instead, so it's entirely possible that the author had never heard of Dungeon Master. It's been 30 years, after all.
Clearly Dungeon Keeper. And yeah Old School Dungeon Master is very old. I do doubt anyone holds the IP rights to it anymore.
In fact, I am sure of it as about a decade ago I was one of the guys remaking DungMast in a 3D engine freely and openly as it's apparently in a sort of defacto Public Domain status. We would rarely call our game Dungeon Master but use some plays on words with the names.
Honestly, I was tired and a little stoned when I posted that, and while it does not excuse my words. I still sort of stand by every one of them.
Dungeon Master is a common enough term, what with the whole DnD thing the 80s game was probably trying to capitalize on.
You are correct. The term Dungeon Master does predate the video game. They are both in reference to Adventure Games. One is the title of one of its players, The other is the title of the player and the game itself.
I honestly am sure that the Title of the game may very well be because they played DnD back in the 70s, and fancied themselves Dungeon Masters to the player of their game while calling them a Dungeon Master as well.
Very little doubt about that.
My main point is, with that name I expected a very different game experience. My secondary point, The graphics, and story are not even remotely there yet.
I am however watching this thread and game and so will revisit this later after a few updates. Fair is fair.
