So it looks like has decided to enact a ban on pornography. First Pornhub and other major porn sites purge their own content, and now this.

There has been an increase in crackdown on adult content in these past years.

It's only going to get worse.

The biggest problem is the people against porn are fighting for it to be removed while the people that want porn are too busy complaining on forums to actually do anything.

Not saying that to dig at anyone but it's true. No one is fighting them on anything. Nobody jumped in to try and help Patreon when PayPal and Mastercard shit on them, people just sat back and started joining in by shitting on Patreon too.

People are quick to complain about things but never bother doing anything about it.

I've been an eBay seller for 21 years, Paypal the same. Last year they really started cracking down on IRS mandates, that was my last straw.
As you know, Paypal has been cracking down on sex workers. So many models I know have been banned/dropped.

Its more complicated than that. USA laws against obscenity are extremely vague, broad and far reaching. Few people realize that porn is legal in the US be a very thin margin. It comes down to Federal laws against obscenity and interstate distribution. Fosta/Sesta has been a HUGE set back from battles people like Larry Flint and Dee Snyder championed.

You can't blame individuals for not doing enough. There is a huge juggernaut in the room whose shadow is the spirit of the conservative Xtian force. This is a battle that has been going on for thousands of years.

They will not allow cartoon nudity, yet they will allow Playboy, Playgirl, Mayfair, and Penthouse. How consistent.

I just sold some random doujin I had laying around a few weeks ago

honestly there is a lot of questionable content on there that should be more strictly enforced. Even the playboy posts aren't as blatantly borderline.
if not the items themselves then the way they're listed. its easier to find loli on ebay than on some hentai sites now

p.s. i for one bought my pornhub sub with bitcoin so i have paid my dues.

The internet is fluid. Hh dies, another site replaces. Ebay no porn? Then people sell it on craigslist or something... Adult content will never go away...

The underlying issue is that some organisations, institutions and businesses have been persuaded that pornography is damaging to their profit margins (which under certain cirmstances it is).
If only abuse of work force/resources were as damaging to those same profit margins.

Whelp, learn something new every day I guess. Didn't know you could buy (used) pornography on eBay, and I will continue to not do that after its ban as well. Feels like a biohaz problem at least as much as a puritanical pearl-clutching problem.

From an ethical perspective, no, I don't support the ban. Practically, though? Eww.

Hi,
(could not find Ebay specifically - bit I consider it applies here nevertheless considering Ebay's economical power and influence)

Vision/mission as listed on company websites:
  • : Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.
  • : At Microsoft, our mission is to enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential.
Compare those missions to the business purposes listed on each company's Articles of Incorporation:
  • : The purpose of this Corporation is to engage in any lawful act or activity for which corporations may be organized under the General Corporation Law of Delaware.
  • : The Corporation is organized for the purposes of transacting any and all lawful business for which a corporation may be incorporated under the Washington Business Corporation Act.*
Companies/Business Entities are only in for your money - their profits - if Porn would make them either lose money reputation or customers they'll ditch Porn in a second.
(what the new owner did to Tumblr comes to mind)

Didn't the Verizon tank the value of tumblr by *refusing* porn, thus losing the entire community?

Anyway, there's multiple other reasons at play; Operation Chokepoint is one of them. The control the Big 5 advertising firms have on the online ad market is another. The stranglehold VISA/Mastercard has is a third. The move to mobile, and the control the Apple/Google duopoly asserts there is a fourth. As purveyors of fine smut we're forever living on the edge of some article in a Very Serious Newspaper bringing the hammer down on on us.

Hi,
you are correct I should have added a few words in my statement: Companies/Business Entities are only in for your money - their profits - if they think that Porn would make them either lose money reputation or customers they'll ditch Porn in a second.

(they were wrong about that thought on an economic/financial point of view - now what was the real motivation for the move?)

Being a Big Corp does not make them always being the owner of Truth and Righteousness - and they will often cave in to the most vocal crowd of the moment.

(would someone willingly destroy $1B Company's share value only to silence a source of filth smut and "deviant" voices?)

Who cares. Who the fuck eBay = PayPal. Ignore prude American Companies like that.
Unfortunately business owners simply can't choose not to care. If I am running a merch table selling my art, half the non-cash customers will want to use Paypal.
I just commissioned some art for myself and the vendor only accepts Paypal. So there is no easy way around it as long as they permeate the business world. Yes you can use other payment processors but it HURTS your business to do so due to loss of customers.
