Dev Update 04

Hey everyone! We’re getting close!
We’ve made a ton of progress since our last development update, and we have a lot of exciting things to share. Let’s jump in!

1. Introducing Professor Carter
Meet Professor Carter, Edgefield’s favorite English professor. He’s laid-back and fair, but don’t mistake that for weakness. You don't want to be on his bad side.

2. Grade Tracking App
In Edgefield, you have to keep your grades up! Well, you don't have to... But if that's something you care about, here is a first look at how you'll be able to track your grades and class schedule.

3. Studying & Exam Animations
We’ve added new animations to support the studying and exam gameplay mechanics!

4. Room Customization
Your room is your space, and we're giving you the option to make it truly your own. We’ve added a variety of decor items you can purchase and use to personalize your dorm room however you like.

5. Mail System
When you place an order online, you’ll be able to pick it up from the mail room. It’s a small feature that adds some realism to campus life.

6. Mail Room Polish
We’ve given the mail room background a rework. Cleaner, crisper, and more in line with the rest of the world.

7. New Poses
A lot of our work these past few weeks has gone into creating new character poses for the upcoming Welcome Week Update. We’ve added a ton, but here’s a quick peek at a few new ones and a rework of Edmund's original pose.

8. New Wallpaper for Junior & Senior Tier Patreon Supporters
Thank you so much to our top-tier supporters. A new exclusive wallpaper is available now and more are on the way. We hope you enjoy <3

9. AVN Times Feature
We were honored to be featured in this month’s issue of AVN Times. They wrote a very kind review of the game, and we’re incredibly grateful. Be sure to check them out for more info on all AVN news.

10. We're on Instagram!
It’s a small update, but we’ve officially launched our Instagram page. Once this update is out, we’ll be sharing a lot more across all of our social platforms.
11. The Welcome Week update is close!
We’re almost there. Most of the art is complete, and the writing is nearly done. Music and sound are next, and they don’t take long. After that, it’s all about scene assembly and playtesting. We really appreciate your patience and support, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.

12. Upcoming Roadmap
Here soon, we’ll be releasing a development roadmap that lays out our vision for the future of Edgefield. It will give you a better sense of our schedule, our goals, and what you can look forward post Welcome Week.
As always, thank you so much for checking out the game and supporting what we’re doing. It seriously means a lot. Whether you’ve been here since the start or just found us, we’re really glad to have you along for the ride. We’ve got a lot more in the works, so keep an eye out. More info coming soon!
Thank you all so much!

gopher.upg : Will we at some point get a new phone? Or the ability to disable the broken screen? Sounds surely stupid but a broken screen is something that totally gets me worked up...

Minor thing but I noticed that all of the dialogue during the second Emma dream scene with a male mc is said by Emma, so it's like she's having schizo conversations with herself when some lines should clearly be said by the MC:

Code:
em "Tell me you like fucking me. Tell me."
em "I love fucking you, Emma."
Code:
em "You do whatever I say, right?"
em "Yes, Emma. Yes, you're in charge."
em "Good. Don’t stop. Fuck me harder!"

Edgefield

Hey everyone!

Now that the we're getting closer to the release of the Welcome Week Update, we've created a roadmap to give you a better idea of where Edgefield is headed and how we plan to structure future updates.

We’re super excited about what’s coming, and we think this new approach will keep things moving steadily while give you more ways to be part of the experience.

Roadmap Breakdown - Different Types of Updates

I'll start by going over the types of updates that are listed in the roadmap!

Event Update
Event Updates will focus on memorable moments in campus life, such as a your first day (the Demo), holiday celebrations, themed parties, or university field trips. They feature multiple characters and bring unique twists to the main story.

Major Update
Major Updates represent a significant leap forward in both story and gameplay. You’ll deepen your relationship with a large percentage of the characters, see existing dynamics evolve, discover new gameplay mechanics, and unlock new locations across campus and the surrounding town.

Feature Update
Feature Updates will focus on gameplay rather than story. They introduce new mechanics, explorable areas, or collectible systems that expand how you interact with Edgefield.

Character Update
Each Character Update focuses on one character’s personal storyline, with Patreon supporters voting on who takes the spotlight next.

Why Structure It This Way?

There are two main reasons we're taking this approach.

1. More Frequent Updates
Welcome Week is a big update with lots of new story and mechanics, and we can't wait to share it with you. But moving forward, we want to release content more regularly. That means smaller, more focused updates that let us build out a single storyline or gameplay feature at a time.

2. More Player Influence
We also want to give you more say in what comes next. With Character Updates, you’ll get to vote on which character’s storyline gets developed next. We have big plans for every character, and we’re excited to see who you want to spend time with first. (Polls will be spoiler-free and give just enough info to help you decide.)

Why Aren't There Any Dates?

You might notice that we haven’t listed specific dates on the roadmap and that’s intentional.
Rather than risk giving you inaccurate information or having to push back timelines, we still believe it’s more honest and respectful to share release dates when we know the updates will be truly ready. That said, the size listed for each update should help give you a general idea of the scope and how long it might take.

Thanks so much for playing, supporting, and being part of Edgefield. We're so excited to share more info with you soon!
If you have any questions, thoughts, or ideas, we’re always listening. <3

One of the most promising looking games out there!
Also I cannot believe how uncomplicated and easy going this game seems to be when it comes to same sex.
I hope you keep that up!

I enjoyed being able to hit on Peter as a guy, without anybody freaking out.
I don't know why this thread hasn't freaked out about that yet :p

Pushing 5 months since the demo dropped, should bode for one hefty ass update..
They have two (I think now 3?) devs. I don't think you should expect a "hefty ass update" when there's a very small team (which likely have another job to support them) doing stuff. I like the game, their first couple releases are rock solid but I think creating big expectations in your head is a surefire way to make yourself disappointed and angry for no reason.

Yep. There's essentially been one real release and we don't know how long that took to set up. We don't really have any data points on how fast they work until we have another to get a sense of time and content involved. There's also the bit that as a general rule, as new releases come out devs often get better and produce a better game, but they also get more ambitious and so updates tend to be somewhat bigger, much better quality, and significantly slower, especially if there's any real degree of branching involved. The roadmap shows them taking things in larger and smaller chunks, maybe they'll fit work on the next big one in with downtime in the smaller ones, maybe some will come out rapidly and others take longer, or maybe they work slowly and have real lives and everything's going to be slow. We've got no way of knowing yet, and the devs are hardly going to get on here to say "Oh, yeah, we intend to draw this out as long as we can so everyone loses interest."

There's just no point getting upset with a dev for working slowly at the beginning of a game unless you're seriously considering tossing money at them. If you're just waiting on free updates and they come too slowly for you, write the game off for now and circle back in a few years if you still care, see how it's doing.
