Eighth note in the top left corner

I've played a few games made in RPG Maker MV, but I've never understood what the little icon in the top left of the screen shot does when toggled on/off. Does anyone know?
The game in the image is "Tialucy and the Underground Labyrinth"

Maybe it shows if the game has it's speed increased or not?

My guess would be mute sound, and the games you have played didn't had any sound so the button didn't do anything.
