Disclaimer, in case this isn't a me-problem :
Using joystick will softlock the game upon entering the new menu (accessible in the left side of town in the world map. It can still work just fine if you only use keyboard control until you've made your selection in it before switching control.
EDIT: fixed in the latest update as of today

How did you not know it wasn't a thing when it is mentioned in the OP to run the gameupdate.bat file to get the latest update? Did you just completely ignore what was said in the OP?

It even mentions that patching it is required, the crashes are only happening because you're playing it without getting the latest patch.

For the record, the translation currently does not have the latest version which added post-game enemy/boss rush.
So keep that in mind that launching the gameupdate file will remove that newly added feature.
