VN - Ren'Py - Eternum [v0.8.5 Public] [Caribdis]

I don't know where or how to start since I'm no reviewer, but i feel forced to give a review on this.
Well how was my experience after finishing this game?(v0.2)... Let me tell you something, I'm not a guy who likes to over exaggerate things, but this game had my jaw dropped and left me with so much excitement that i don't know, how to survive waiting till the the next patch comes out.
I went completely blind on this game yesterday, don't knew the developer nor his other project and i really didn't expect anything when i saw the previews.. BUT THANK GOD i gave this game a chance.

It's a total masterpiece and has everything a good adult game.. Forget the adult part it has everything a GOOD game needs.

• Great, relatable and understandable characters
• Intriguing story and plotts
• Quality in music and graphics

But my favorite aspect would probably be the sense of humor the author put into his work here.
I've never once felt so captivated by an adult game like this, and I've played a lot of games on here, a ton. I bursted out laughing countless times (first dark soul reference almost killed me), felt excitement; sadness; fear; anger; disgust and that all in a game which is currently on a fcking 0.2 state. I've genuinely enjoyed this game as a...well as a game instead of an usual adult game, which was my prejudice. That doesn't mean that the adult scenes were lacking, they were perfect cg wise and animation wise.

Well that was my first review on this site i think, enjoy the game to everyone who haven't yet and consider supporting, it's well deserved and i will too now. Peace

v0.2 If I ever made a game I would love it to be on similar level to this one. I started it for the "plot" but loved it for the plot. Especially as it was only second installment of it I didn't expect much... especially when I started it at midnight... I expected quick game.. oh boy, how pleasantly surprised I was when it was 5-6 in the morning of a work day.. when I ended playing. I must add that most of that time was interesting to say the least. There isn't much "plot" but there is huge amoung of plot to keep you entertained. Paceing is great, not too fast and not too slow. It looks almost real how characters develop their relationships. There is much build up before any Action. So it is all the more pleasant. If any of you sorry wankers like me expect for it to be quick.. oh boy, you are for a ride. I didn't expect soo much content in only second update of it. You got me hooked. Honey select 2... to find those models or make them by myself.. Dev, you reminded me of my long lost love to this game/Character creator i might give it another shot after long time. Looks like it might be an ideal tool to start my newbie dev life. If You can keep up the pace and quality then I will salute you and pay tribute on Patreon. I must say that I loved your game.

I'm also enjoying the horror elements and the potential for some supernatural or supernaturally technological shenanigans.

I also love that the game stays true to that VR MMORPG world fee
story is superb.

I really love Caribdis humor and storytelling, his games are of the few that I play actually reading and being invested in the plot apart from just skipping to the scenes.

This is not to say that I don't appreciate the art, Dalia and Luna will forever be in my top 10 and the quality of the characters is jut magnificent both in personality and appearance.

Wonderful. Its just only 2.0 but IT IS SO GOOD FROM amazing world building. Each girls have such amazing personality not just a hollow one. I have to make a review to demonstrate how good this game is. Will be supporting this if I ever have the money and I think that this should be a must play at least in 2.0.

A promising Start:
A few months after the completion of their previous game Once in a lifetime, Carybdis returns with another masterpiece, Eternum . As someone who played Once in a lifetime, I expected the usual amusing dialogue, cute honey select models, and a wholesome story line.

Well I'm certainly tapping that

FUTURISTIC MMO:
Eternum takes us into a world where bio-tech has allowed people to enter deeply immersive matrix-esque worlds. Naturally, the first application for this is to create a MMO named Eternum. The game has countless servers each with their own distinct themes. It's a wonderful vehicle for Caribdis to organically explore multiple genre settings such as horror, scifi, and even fantasy.

CHARACTERS:
The characters in this story are absolutely delightful. Each of them have their own quirks and Carybdis's trademark humorous moments. Unlike many other games I've played on this site, the protagonist is not a complete incel , sadboi or psychopath around girls and its enjoyable reading his funny inner dialogue. Although lighthearted, not everything is sunshine and rainbows for them. Each have their own problems in the story and the protagonist is sure to witness and even assist overcoming them.

As I expected, the girls look phenomenal. There isn't much real sexual content as of this review(v0.2) however that will definitely change. The models are much superior compared to Once in a lifetime, due to using Honey select 2 . In short, everyone is hot as hell.


Verdict
You will struggle to find another game with level of polish, dialogue and content as Eternum. It's by far one of the best games on this site and is worth to download and support.

I believe that for a good AVN you need three components: The graphics(renders), the scripts( the story) and the playability (branching/interaction/choices).

1.Graphics: You see that cute hot waifu (my waifu) girl dressed in black on the cover? You think this is like a cheating render they do just to attract you to download the game? NO. Every frame. LIKE EVERY, SINGLE FUCKING FRAME looks as amazing as this. Immersive renders, smooth animations and no out of place big boobs/ out of portion body model or those cheap ass stickers shit you found in other games. No. The devs took care of every single details, even the shadow projected on the wall. Just, amazing.

2. The story: I don't know why I am treating a porn game story so seriously. I want to laugh at myself. But I will admit it. The story is so logically self-contained, the flow of it so good and makes so many sense and you just want to believe it is true. The conversations between the characters feel so natural, and the world building is done smoothly without too many exposition. I don't know, if you write this shit into a novel I might actually buy it and read it.

3. The playability: Now this is where this game is lacking a bit because so far it is pretty linear. No big life changing or game turning choices you need to make so far and definitely nothing like mini games or QTE events that require you to get your controller mouse keyboard action going. I think the story itself is so good that, you might actually want to forget this is a game and treat it more like a MOVIE, where once in a while you are prompted to make some choices. In 0.2 we get to play a mystery solver which is fun so that add up to this a bit. With the walkthrough they posted here,there is definitely no room of mistake where you lost the route of a girl or lost some events.

Simply a great, promising game (v0.2 at the time of this review) with an interesting plot, top notch renders, a great attention to backgrounds and quite the variety when it comes to environments.
The mix between adventure, mystery, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, humor and romance works great for me.
Every character has their own personality and they're all likeable in their own way, most relationships feel wholesome, the whole experience was really enjoyable.

It's very rare that games in this "genre" be entertaining as both a story and pornography. So far, Eternum has absolutely shattered my expectations and I'm genuinely intrigued to find out how the story will develop. All the girls' characters seem well-developed, and while the comically villainous antagonists seem a bit one-dimensional, I have a feeling that they too will undergo elaboration as the story progresses. The screenshots will help you decide how you feel about the art style, so I won't waste time saying how great it is, but I don't imagine many people won't enjoy it. Very excited to follow Caribdis' and Eternum's development.

I'd easily put Eternum to be in my top 5. This is simply amazing for a 0.2 release, and given I haven't played Caribdis' other game, the entire thing seems fresh.

Now for the review, I'd like to discuss the superficial stuff first.

The models, are.... Gods damn it, exactly what I have been looking for. Yes, they are anime-styled, but don't go about complaining about it. These indie devs basically have only 4 choices for model sources, Honey Select (1 or 2), Koikatsu, Daz3d, or real porn. and you know what you're getting into when you download the game. Oops... sorry went off in a tangent there. Back on topic, I really like the models, all the main LIs are exceedingly cute and very hot. Sure there is a lack of variation in proportions, but the main 3 are there, small boobs, medium sized boobs, and big boobs. I really like how there was some restraint on the sizes as some games tend to give characters over-sized breasts. I do have a slight gripe about Alex though, swimmers (realistically) won't develop big breasts if they were swim training from childhood because they tend to develop muscles in the chest area instead of fat so they typically have smaller breasts. Then again, most swimmers in hentai and eroge still have big breasts so what do I know?

I might say, really nice touch on the abs. I'm finding a kindred spirit with Caribdis. So two thumbs up for character designs (I understand that most of their faces tend to be similar, but this is the exact facial structure I find most appealing in HS2, plus in anime, they all technically have the same face, just different hairstyles, it's par for the course). If anyone else noticed Towa-sama's costume, you sir/lady are a wo/man of culture.

Next is set design. This one is really top notch. Not sure about whether they are premade assets, but the prop placements and setup coupled with amazing camera work, really works wonders for the immersion. The scenes inside Eternum are top quality, while the real world scenes are rather homey and nothing is really out of place (yet). I also like the settings in Eternum are not just props, the characters always comment about their feelings and interactions about the server they are in. This gives the player a more intimate experience that just showing a backdrop.

The sounds... well... I am a bit split. There are some scenes where the music was perfect and accentuated the scene while in some, they tend to be a bit off... I do like the sound settings in Luna's events though, I really like the commitment to the bit. I do wish there was some sound effects during the sex scenes though. Other than that no further complaints.

The gameplay is what you would expect for a VN. I've seen some comments complaining about it but dude.. The tag says VN. Expecting anything more than simple choices is a bit entitled. Yes, I share the same dislike for linear choices where it is basically yes or no to the lewd content but I didn't see that to be prevalent here. Yes, I would prefer that you would miss out of content by picking one girl over another like in the weekend events, but based on what I saw, Caribdis might be going in that direction the further the story is going. There are also people that would prefer not to miss anything in a single playthrough so I really won't deduct points for that. Because this is an early build, there are some choices that seem to not hold any weight right now but I bet would make an impact in future updates like whatever you buy from Chop chop. Personally, I kinda like not knowing the impact the choices as it makes me want to replay the game. Also, I don't like sandbox. semi-sandbox is ok (only available in certain areas), because those are basically just time sinks. And in case people also complain why the girls tend to like the MC, well... this is a harem game, what did you expect? And based on what I've seen it is perfectly possible not to pursue an LI (if you're one of those guys...).

The story I gotta say is intriguing to say the least and the little scenarios in each server are quirky and unique. I really like how each girl really has their own personality and traits, yes these are tropes, but tropes are there because they matter. Every single slice of life anime has 2 or more of these tropes in the main cast, but it is not the tropes you should look for but how they deviate despite the trope. Annie, the best friend for example is not just the best friend who secretly likes you, she is also a great gamer that players in Eternum look up to, and also very much easily scared. It is the nuances in each characters portrayal despite their tropes that make them loveable and memorable. Luna's sick sense of humor and Nova's puppy like personalities are really my favorite parts (and Dalia's abs). Actually, I was expecting Dalia to be the shy and quite type from the intro sequence, boy was I wrong.

All in all, I really, really like this game and so far I only found 1 typo near the end, a conversation with Penny in the studio which I might say, is pretty rare as most games like this tend to have a lot. I don't know the release schedule yet, but Caribdis is getting to the top of my to-support list.

Finished version 0.2, it's definitely one of the best vn game released so far in the history without a doubt even if it's not yet complete. The effort is just there and it should be obvious if you played it. Although i've spotted some character's personality inconsistencies on side stories but that's nothing for me personally as long as the main story will be kept detailed and thoroughly done just like it is right now. Just like his previous game, Once in a life time, there's a good amount of humor and trivia you will learn on this game unlike most of the standard vn games out there where they only heavily focused on sexual content which probably eternum is lacking currently which i wanted to give credit, because character building is really important in terms of immersion on novel games. So if you like slow-paced fantasy that have good plot, top tier animation, character diversity then this is your best bet for 2021. And if you're just here for fapping purposes, still try it and just come back again after few more updates, you won't be disappointed.

Holy shit, I have never been so immersed in a game before that I would lose track of time like I do with Minecraft and Terraria. The visuals, story, sound effects, music, comedy, characters; all of it is so good that I didn't find the sex part to be my focus anymore it's the whole game itself and the sex part is just a plus to the many that this game has. I recommend people using a walkthrough or walkthrough mod to get the most fun out of this game and not worrying about missing any content. It already feels much better than OIALT's start and to be completely honest I am getting hungry for more of this game. 2022 will be so worth it and I'll be waiting looking forward for what this has in store for the future. Let start by saying this game art and graphics are great like top-notch from the characters to scenery and the scenery and it has potential in my eyes to be great.
But as of playing 0.2 this game is maybe overhyped for what it is I have seen reviews stating "the comedy, writing, characters, and the story is amazing" I disagree first the comedy is damn near the exact same comedic routine in his last game and being honest at this point its cringe like every joke is 0 to 100 in the worst way.

The writing is so cliche that he somehow fulfills a horror movie trope unironically, obviously, this game also has strong shounen anime inspiration in the writing and comedy tropes, example MC gets caught peeping calls the girl cute immediately starts blushing and all is forgiven or even another trope for porn game catches him naked sees his dick and becomes mega horny for him and I am not saying these can't be used but at least try something new like it feels as though he took from comedy shounen harem ecchi manga or animes he likes and word for word put them in and to me that's just boring and just a bunch of unnecessary dialogue to make up for the lack of content (it is only in its second version).

The Characters again design-wise are hot but writing-wise is again just a bunch of harem or romance manga characters you got the older woman, childhood friend, occult girl, ice queen, or lone wolf girl, you got the model girl, and then you got the comic relief male best friend. Let me reiterate this doesn't make the characters bad because he is using these it's the fact that I can go read a manga now and there would be no difference also the MC suffers from this but the MC also suffers from a horrible haircut like it looked bad in his last game and it still looks bad in this game.

The story is more the same as the last points just a bland uninspired story that could be cool but it suffers because the writing and characters are of such low quality that when I was playing I fell asleep so many times because the story is a generic Real Life MMORPG manga like Yureka which had a way more interesting hook to it and just like his last game a disappointing chosen one type vibe to it with the mix of big over the top group which most likely be the villains and of course his Bully just so happens to be a son if the big shadowy group like mana I don't wanna be mean but this might be one of the most unoriginal games on this site.

Let me say Caribdis though is a developer that is proven they work hard legit it took enough 3 months for the next update while some of these games take a year for less amount content so that's why I am not giving this a 1 to respect their hard work and time friendly development.

This game as of right (again version 0.2) is not fun not engaging what it sadly is a boring AVN with honestly a not needed choice system cause all it is there for is the illusion of it and having to answer the right or you could miss a scene which just not at all fun.

In a word: charming! The art is excellent (and used very well. It's clear the artist is good enough to be able to do interesting art, not just pretty art), the humor is top notch, and the characters are distinct and fun. I'll give it a whole extra start just for not making the boys in it look lame or boring or ugly. They don't need to be hot (though Chang is), but it's nice when they don't look like a smooth skin filler character. His shirt depicting The Mouse is interesting and I wonder if we'll see Disney come after porn games. Another interesting aspect is that I'm pretty sure this game could make it as a non-porn game. The story is pretty interesting, and I love that the main character actually has a personality.

My only gripes with it really are just mine. I generally prefer games that are more game less visual novel. But that's a genre preference and just means the game isn't made with me in mind. Can't fault it for that. Also, don't play it if you're just in the mood to get off. It's a story with a little sex and lots of hot characters. I'm looking forward to there being more.

It really builds on the Once in a lifetime game that Caribdis made but it goes next level.

It pretty much takes all the good things and expands them, making the game itself feel more epic and fun.

The characters, the humor and the setting just fits. Hoping to see more!

Everything about this is so freaking amazing, and I'm looking forward to how this shapes out to become. It'll be one of the best games period, with that stylish classy aesthetic, really well realized story and characters, and just awe inspiring graphics. A generic, linear Visual Novel with 'click to see next slide or line of text' gameplay, boring "college trope" with a mix of "young man finds himself living with his girlfriends best friend's school mate" cliche story (with a sci-fi blend) and some in-game choices that basically lead to the same results (be polite/ be agressive turns out excatly the same). Honey Select models are really not my kink - as all females look exactly the same and just really weird (petite asian schoolgirls). This Visual Novel is all about young people (teenagers) talking to each other about mundane things. Adult content is scarse or even none (you can get a sneak-peak of a girl undressing if you decide to be a perv) and all your choices boil down to - hi, can you clean the bathroom because im too busy to do it myself? People constantly want you to help them do something and if you decline you basically have no chance of even interacting with them later on. There is also a riddiculous pop-qiuz sequence that will repeat itself until you'll get all the answers right (why even bother). Story is really far from good and so as adult content.

One of the best VNs I've ever played with so much soul and love invested by Caribdis.

The plot itself is very engaging, and the core concept of Eternum "servers" gives so many possibilities with any possible location that you can visit. From space stations and cyberpunk to ancient Egypt and the Wild West - everything fits to the narrative so well. As for the writing, it also holds the bar - pop culture references, well dosed humor and good pacing keep you engaged all the time (and those cliffhangers will make you wait the next update eagerly each time). Girls feels different, each with their own personality but still very likeable. Despite of using Honey Select, visuals and graphics are good (like the best what you can expect from that engine) with well directed and animated scenes which always complemented with good enough musical theme.

Overall: strongly recommended to try.
