Maybe it's a completely different form of immersion and kick to steer the mc yourself viewing the scene from multiple angles than just looking at a flat picture?
Sure it is different, but there is no cheap immersion for 3D afaik. If you go 3D then you suddenly have to focus thousands of things that can kill the vibe, like animations, characters dead face mimics, lip sync, eye contact, weird looking meshes, backgrounds, crowds etc. Optimalization alone is extremely complicated, you can kill the game in UE with just beveling the corners too hard, and sometimes you wont even see it on powerful GPU, yet the players are used to have it all on top AAA level in 3D games and they will just bomb the game instantly.
If you just want to move while watching scenes, maybe poke a bit, then you have things like VAM, that can be used with VR and it easily kills any small and cheap 3d game.
