It's an issue with disabling options for the sake of it. Renpy lets the player decide how they want to handle skipping in preferences so putting in code $ _skipping = False turns this off.

the text speed bar does nothing (maxxing it out doesn't make the text instant) + skip option just doesn't exist

It's what he does (every single time). I think he just cuts and pastes. You can't fault him for being quick off the mark, though. Or dedicated to the cause.

The slow text speed, that's not effected by the text speed slider, is obnoxiously annoying. Can't even click again while it's scrolling to load the whole message, it just skips to the next text.
