We know a bunch of you have been dying to read D.C.4 ~Da Capo 4~ Plus Harmony in English. Well, the Arisu Sagisawa Fan Club is here to give you just a little taste of it! We're celebrating the release of D.C. Re:tune by putting something special together.

We call it the D.C.4 ~Da Capo 4~ Plus Harmony – Prologue Patch. We've gone ahead and translated the game's entire, 36-scene-long prologue. You can read it by installing the game and patch, then clicking "Prologue" on the main menu.

Now the bad news is that we’re only translating the prologue. We all have full-time jobs, families, and nowhere near enough time to tackle the game's almost 500 scenes. Even this short prologue was a huge stretch! We have a self-described amateur translator (who about screamed at some of Izumi-sensei’s monologues) and an editor who'd never touched a game script before and on top of that we had to wrangle a ton of tech issues without a dedicated software engineer all in a short window when our time off work happened to line up. It’s a miracle that we managed this as it is..

Still, we're putting this out there because we love Da Capo and we know others do too but haven’t had a chance to even touch 4. Our main hope is that the more people who read this, the louder the call will be for a full translation, either officially or by other fan groups. Please go bug your favorite fan translation teams and publishers about it and tell others to as well. Fan translators, you have our full blessing to edit or reuse anything we’ve done to push you ahead.

Just a little tidbit: we originally wanted to translate D.C. ~Da Capo~ Onsen Hen, but we hit a wall with getting the text back into the game and displaying spaces properly. If you know anything about that, we asked about it here.

Anyway, we really hope you enjoy the prologue! This is our first fantranslation effort, and there are a few little issues, but we think you'll still have a great time with it.

Notes

Some bits might feel a little clunky. We tried our best, and we think the meaning still comes across! For example, there's a part where Ichito makes a joke about Arisu "going out" with him instead of "tagging along," which relies on wordplay that doesn't translate perfectly. We did notice a few grammar issues here and there after finalizing it too. We ran out of time for another edit pass to smooth out consistency and make those literal parts sound more natural, especially after other issues popped up.

On names, we mostly kept the honorifics. The exception is for a few characters who call Ichito and Nino "Tokisaka-ani" and "Tokisaka-imouto", and then "Tokisaka-kyodai" when talking about them together. We changed these to Tokisaka-brother, -sister, and siblings, which felt like the clearest way to get the intention across.

In-game phone messages were a headache! We had no idea how to change the image files for them, and the text isn't in the main script. So, we either put the translation of the phone messages right after the relevant line where we could, or if one line had to cover a whole series of messages, we just summarized it.

Heads up on saving: It's pretty rare, but we did run into some problems when loading saves and we’re not 100% sure that we got them fixed fully. If you aren't planning to read the whole prologue in one sitting as it is kind of long, we suggest saving every few scenes or just using the skip read function if you hit any snags. Also, the backlog sometimes doesn't jump to the right spot and repeats lines.

Oh and technically the final scene in the prologue has three variations. There’s a little something in there fans of the series may enjoy if you want to try to discover it.

You'll need Locale Emulator to avoid some small text issues. If you don't have it set up, you can .

We'll check up on the thread for a little while to see reactions, but we don’t really use F95 so I don't expect that we'll sign in again unless we have good reason to. This could be the first and last time you see the Arisu Sagisawa Fan Club. Who knows though, maybe someone will crack our Onsen Hen text issue and we'll surprise you again next year!

Anyway, hope you like the patch and that everyone has an awesome time with D.C. Re:tune that releases in a couple of days. The prologue won’t take you more than a couple of hours, so you’ll have time to read it before the remake comes out.
