Let's have a little thought experiment.
So, their patreon has 2428 paid subscriptions. With 5$ being the minimum amount and 50$ is the max, that's per month, mind you. With the 15$ one being the most popular.
Let's simplify it and assume all 2428 of them are the 15$ ones since it's the most popular.
That would give us 36 420$ per month. And even using the lowest tier, which is too generous in my opinion, would still give us as much as 12 140$ per month, which is still quite a lot of cash.
So here's the question. Given this amount of money, would you:
A. Get extremely motivated by it and work hard to deliver what people are paying you for?
B. Have a relaxed development, delivering daily/weekly/monthly game updates and bug fixes until the game is done in a reasonable time?
C. Do the absolute bare minimum in order to prolong the development? Because let's be honest, the patreons won't stick around once the game is done, and this might be your only chance in life to get this much money by working on a porn game, so you better make it count.
The temptation is real. And this is without adding the stolen assets allegations that I didn't even know about before reading Zane's post, which just shows the great moral character of the devs, making one of these options more likely than the others.
I wish patreon would regulate this shit somehow, this is just silly. And since the people that support them tolerate this kind of behavior, the game will never be finished. I don't need to wait 10 more years to see that. I mean, be honest with me, if you were paid the same amount no matter how much work you did, how motivated would you be to actually do the work?
