Favorite 2D Art Styles for H-Games?

Hey everyone. I'm a programmer that's been bouncing around an idea for a game in my mind for a while, but I'm having trouble visualizing it. I've got a general idea of some characters I want, a rough story, some character interactions, but I'm actually having trouble coming up with the GAME part of the game. I wanted to know what art styles everyone liked in their games and maybe it would give me some inspiration to better visualize my thoughts.

I'm not that interested in 3d art. It just comes off as a little awkward and ... uncanny valley-ey to me for a lack of a better term. MAYBE if it was heavily cell-shaded or in that vein, but it would add a lot to the programming side. Personally I'm a fan of pixel art (definitely not RPG Maker style though... I'm not at all a fan of any of those games I've run into) or more cartoony styles. Pixel art and hand drawn have very fluid animations, which I think look really nice. I'm sure that level of detail would be pretty work intensive to achieve. I'm also more into western hentai styles than the classic anime/manga styles. Don't let my preferences deter you from showing off what you like though; sometimes good art is just good art no matter what the style!

If you're curious about the game play, it would be a 2D, adventure style game. Might have something like platforming, but I'd rather the focus be on "combat" aspects. I use quotes because the "combat" would be sex based rather than fighting based. I was thinking of using some Kirby like elements of taking aspects from "enemies" (sex partners) to maybe better match against a specific "enemy" type or something like that. I was also thinking of a progression system kind of like E.V.O. for the SNES, where you pick characteristics to shape what sort of character you are. (More monstrous? Animalistic? Magical? etc.) I'd want a choice between male and female protagonists if the project went far enough, but it would start with a male protagonist. There also might be "harem style" aspects for lack of a better term? Still not at all fleshed out though.

There are a few sidescrolling platformer type games that have gone the pixel art route. So, to be unique, it might be interesting to see someone go the more cartoon style of a Kirby game. Depending on how you do the game. For instance, if you play as a girl you can make simple cartoony tentacle monsters as her enemies, and things like that. If you want a male character, however, it's a little harder. The more complex your characters the more value in a pixel art style, like the old school SNES games.

Yeah, nothing's very set in stone. I should probably come up with some mock game play to even see how it all fits together. I think I found some pixel art styles on the site that I like. I feel like mechanics alone can't save a game based around porn, lol. I think it needs a solid art foundation and a reward system that isn't a chore. I'm trying to stay away from the "get through the bad platforming with terrible controls for a blurry boob jpeg" design hahaha.

Clean, smooth spritework goes a long way. Case in point: .

On the other hand you have games that saw fit to go with an 8-bit artstyle so blobby that you basically get a vague representation of what's happening. is a pretty good game, but the artstyle does it no favors imo.

I've played a demo of Lewd Maze. I'll agree the art is pretty good. I haven't seen Castle Evil before; I'll have to check it out. As far as I can see it actually has pretty clean sprite work, but it IS a pixel art style. I can absolutely understand the aversion to that sort of thing. This brings up something I was debating about actually: do I go for a pixel art approach or just regular digital art? Also, if I DID go for the pixel art approach, then what resolution would be a good choice and at what resolution do you lose the benefits of pixel art and should just go with the digital art anyway? It seems like it's just stylistic and you can end up with nice, smooth animations either way. Just gotta check out more game examples I guess!

I did like for its pixel art and some what fluid animations. When it comes to art though I can't get enough of Alibi's works like or . As for gameplay, I suggest having interactive sex scenes like where u can grab and adjust their position and what not. Depending on how u defeat ur opponent could determine how u have sex with them and maybe u could make rape openings like what did with their games. Blending gameplay with sex is really tricky from what I've seen as lots of games I've seen play as either interactive animations, overuse rpgm just to lengthen the gameplay while adding no substance to it, and then theres the clusterfuck of visual novels I don't feel inclined to play for the most part bc they fail to deliver an interesting story (looking at u nukige games:angry:) and lack interesting gameplay mechanics if they r purely a visual novel. Anyways, thats just my thoughts on the matter. I hope u make something incredible and I wish u all the best! :)
