The MC from Melody is kind of a wimp though, Bethany treats him like his bitch, Melody had to stand up for his wishy-washy ass, but other than I agree, he is a great mentor and BF to Melody or the other girls

You Rang...? (Actually, I checked in out of curiosity and saw I was tagged rather than getting a notice. Odd.)
To the question! Like others I find this one a hard exercise sadly... I can't quite name a male MC that I find particularly likeable. Of the options listed I've only found the time between my own work to play about 2 or 3 and of those I'm not satisfied to call the best of them particularly good either.
In fairness, when I do get time to play other stuff I tend to prefer Fem Protag games in the hopes of focusing on a (hopefully) well developed woman than a mostly cut-out flat man meant to let the player slide into him. That's just me though. In other cases where it's not a ghostly presence, the MCs tend to be creeps and funneled into kinds of behaviors that tend to spoil them on me a tad.
Admittedly, trying to write a good Male MC seems a bit of a daunting task compared to some others we devs may find, and there are stories just not suited to "Good Guys" too, but trying my hand at one is something I am interested in tackling along my hopefully "storied" career (Muhahaha, puns!). All in good time I say.
For the basic answer... I think the likes of Justin from Living with Temptation is a decent placeholder for now (I hesitate to use him having talked up the game in an other thread as of late). He's about bettering himself, improving his life and doing well from himself... and yes, his motivations may be to ultimately bag his nanny and her friend, but it's porn after all... for me the it's better an experience to be bringing myself up to the level of the Smashin' Ladies than to bring them down to my level. For the most part. It is fun the other way around too in some cases... (Rance was mentioned and comes to mind, he does it in style and with a laugh at least).
Long story short... I want somebody to make a decent Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney parody game so I can chose the good guy, but who also gets to yell "Objection!" at every turn and at every bang! (Wear a condom? Objection!... You know you want it!)

It's a toss up between this Naoe Yamato. Intelligent, knows what he's doing, doesn't act like a complete tool around women and the women he can date are all awesome especially Momoyo.
Or Simon from Last Sovereign. The guy manages to be the good guy, badass, smooth as fuck and a literal sex god all at the same time ... and all his harem is awesome ... except his wife because she's just an animated skeleton at the moment and it kinda creeps me out especially when she joins in sex scenes. Behave Wendis, you'll have a body soon.

I have to say that Jensen from "Retrieving the Past" is the best, both in looks and personality. Jensen isn't that run of the mill scrawny guy that can only think about getting pussy, that's how 98% of the male MC's are. But not Jensen, he's diverse, he legitimately does have good looks and he has a real personality.
While not the best looking character, my second favorite would be the MC from "Our Fate", he also has a real personality and is diverse.
But I also have to say that Taylor "Tales" from "My Sister, My Roommate" is a great one, he always cracks me up with the things he say in most situations because he's just so damn clueless,doesn't really understand sarcasm, doesn't know when people are joking and doesn't know if a girl is flirting with him and so forth, and his responses are always so funny, haha.
That's my top 3 male MCs
While not the best looking character, my second favorite would be the MC from "Our Fate", he also has a real personality and is diverse.
But I also have to say that Taylor "Tales" from "My Sister, My Roommate" is a great one, he always cracks me up with the things he say in most situations because he's just so damn clueless,doesn't really understand sarcasm, doesn't know when people are joking and doesn't know if a girl is flirting with him and so forth, and his responses are always so funny, haha.

Before anything else, thanks on Jensen's behalf for that. @MrKnobb did a good job of coming up with an enviable yet likeable guy who was both super-human, and yet also had a strange vulnerable side. He's been criticized for being too perfect at times by some, some can't overcome the envy, and some just hate that he agonizes over trying to do the right thing rather than acts like a teenager in a pheromone-fuelled candy store, but I can say he is a lot of fun to write and think about.
It is no secret that I'm a fan of 'Our Fate' either, and again there, we get an older, more accomplished and knowledgeable MC. Someone who actually has a life to talk about and want to play.
I like an MC who has his own home (or two), rather than some basement or attic dweller dependant on grown-ups. An MC who has some knowledge and experience, preferably some real-world skills, who isn't destined for a lifetime of remembering all those girls at school while he spends the next 10 years flipping burgers or asking "Do you want fries with that?".
I'll echo @ThunderRob in saying that I already get a good vibe about the MC in 'Light of My Life', who comes across as thoughtful, useful, and three-dimensional.
I expect the character in 'City of Broken Dreamers' will also tick all the right boxes of not being a naive dumbass, having some actual skills and life to contribute to the world he exists in, and having some history (and mystery) to enjoy discovering.

Oh no, don't let that stop you from playing it, seriously, it's a great game for real. Just give it another go and be open-minded, I've personally been a fan of the game since the very first release, it was great then, and it keeps getting better and better each episode
