Ideally, you should ask for the permission of the original content authour (that's what the copyright law also says, btw). If they have abandoned their work and do not react to your attempts to contact them, it is probably safe to assume they do not mind, or at the very least, do not care (technically, you'd still be breaching the copyright law, but it's rather unlikely they are going to sue you). If they strongly object, it's probably not a good idea to integrate any parts of their actual work into your own, but nothing stops you from reusing their ideas and expressing them in your own way.
The ideal would be permission, hopefully eventually those missing creators will appear, because it would be very uncomfortable if it were decided to continue with the work and it turns out that there is decanonization :S

Honestly, if you're capable of reviving an old project you probably already have the skills to create a new one. If I was in that position that's what I would do. Your vision is going to be that much more coherent compared to continuing on someone else's.
Thank you very much for your comment, it makes me think even more, since as a fan one can become obsessed with a product, and if that product is not finished, it would be a motivation to create the appropriate ending, however that means that he is also a talented developer, who could create new works.

No. The Luna content is no longer femdom. If you are particularly looking for femdom dont bother with that game.

What a fascinating discussion, I agree with Beyondzerome, if I already had the skillset (and time) to properly complete an abandoned VN/Game I'd rather create one of my own.

First and foremost to be able and tell a story of mine, second also to get better satisfaction if I succeeed at it and lastly... to avoid the countless folks who will absolutely contest and whine about any choice I might make "The original dev would have never...".

The only reasons I'd see that as advantageous is to either hone my skills (which would be at the expense of the players) or to make some sort of spin-off.

In any case regardless of the place where we are discussing this, taking someone else's work and work on it without contacting the original creator is really a bad sign.

I want to make a reflection regarding a topic that has been floating around in my head for a long time:

How ethical would it be to resume a project abandoned by a third party?

Due to the large number of excellent works with a Femdom theme that have been abandoned by their creators due to various reasons, we have all kinds of circumstances, such as the developer of “Estate: Dominate” ( Henissart ) who now makes wallpapers every month of a magnificent, unparalleled work whose ending we can only imagine; there is also the creator of “Slave U” ( taco7 ), who for reasons of burnout, left his game aside and is going to dedicate himself to making comics; and what about the case of “The way out” ( S&T ) where the developer met a mistress, leaving his game to be able to take care of her.

There are many like these on the list of this post. I mention these cases because of the excellence of their works, and of course it must be mentioned that this community (myself included) respects these creators, and with that respect, I want to know your opinion, because there is a very probable scenario that these projects will not return, and will remain unfinished.

So what do you think?
If you have permission from the original developer or if he has mysteriously disappeared (RIP Sadiubus) and you feel you understand how the game would progress gameplay wise and story wise I'd say go for it. This site has wayyyy too many good femdom games that were eaten by the Unwritten Leviathan mid journey.
Although in the context of Estate: Dominate I can't imagine how you'd continue it since, as far as I remember, it had a lot of build up but didn't get to the pay off before it was abandoned.

Sorry for not answering before, I barely made a proper response to your good comment, and the truth is that if someone takes someone else's project and finishes it, the ending is by no means the official one, it is not canon, but at least it would be an ending, and it would inspire, in my opinion, another developer to want to make another ending, which would have the same validity, and at the same time would be just as non-canonical.

Hello, where I am from there is a very curious phrase that says "depending on the toad, the stone" (very anti-animalist Y-Y) but what it mentions is the fact that depending on the challenge, is the talent and resources that must be implemented to finish it, in other words, whoever decides, for example, to take the challenge of finishing "Estate: Dominate", would have to be a very talented developer, so that quality does not decline; it seems easy to say, but it is a skill that few acquire, the other alternative is to wait for the perfection of AI, so that this kind of projects can be given more easily.
