HTML First HTML adventure

Hello!

After enjoying quite a few of those HTML adventures, I wanted to try myself on making one, also because I have quite some stories to tell!
Now I wonder what engines they mostly use or that is most suitable for an adventure with various paths, maybe even sandbox like with some RPG elements. I have some programming skills, so thats no stopper for me!
For visual material I wanted to use pictures and gifs/videos of pornstars. Is this okay? Can I use "any" video/pic I find on the net or only certain?
I have no experience with copyright...

Edit: I read about twine! Is it the way to go or are there better ways?

I believe what you may be describing are games made using the HTML game engine called Twine. Now most of these games also use the SugarCube plugin to also help make these game
