Hello everyone!

As the title says this is my first post on here, though I've used the site for a while. A pretty nice community I must say.

I have some questions about somethings, and didn't know exactly which threads to post on. Here they are, and my apologies if they are supposed to be asked somewhere else.

1. This one is for developers, not getting into the whole how to start my own game. Since I've seen plenty of threads about that, but what I want to know is. Should I learn how to use renpy or HS2 first? Like which is easier or harder to learn? If that makes sense.

2. What makes a good porn game to you? Story? Animation? Etc?

3. Any good sandbox recommendations? No ntr, futa, or rape please.

Thats all for now! And once again I apologize if this was not the thread for these. Im still new to actually using this site.

Firstly, welcome!

Next, before posting more you should read the site rules and some helpful links. Also pay attention to the different sections as they will give information about what to post there and if needed how.

https://f95zone.to/threads/f95zone-survival-guide-a-guide-to-making-everyone-happy.9784/

and thanks to Jaike this thread should also prove useful

I'm not a developer but I just want to point out that renpy is an engine and HS2 (Honey Select 2) is a game. Devs who make games with it's graphics use the studio that comes with it.

So what you would be looking for is which engine is easier to learn e.g. renpy / gobot / rpg maker etc.

2. What makes a good porn game to you? Story? Animation? Etc?
Please make sure to remember to use search, there are a number of threads discussing this and similar topics.

Also make sure to look through the different sections and read their descriptions. If you are thinking of making your own game there are sections where you can find guides, help and even look for others to join your team if that is what you are looking for.

3. Any good sandbox recommendations? No ntr, futa, or rape please.

Again, Welcome and I hope this helps you better understand and use this site.

You'll have to learn both at the same time. HS2 is easy to pick up but much harder to master. The simple aspects are straightforward. The not so simple is esoteric tricks and beating the studio into submission to get it to do what you want. And... timeline, where fingers will give you aneurysms. (I don't recommend starting off with timeline and making your own anims until you're comfortable with the studio)

Renpy depends on what type of game you make. A straightforward VN, even with choices, is piss easy as long as you keep track of stuff properly. A sandbox brings a lot of complexity.

A good game is all of the above. Solo (which I assume you would be to start) game development requires you to learn everything. Writing, rendering, coding, etc. It's rough, but rewarding.

As for sandboxes, assuming you're asking to get a feel for any future projects of yours, there are a few key things that make a "bad" sandbox. Those are grind, bad navigation, and poor direction. You don't want players to guess what they have to do, you don't want them to mindlessly do a task 100 times, and you don't want them to have 4-5 clicks just to get to one room in a house they're already in. Take a look at games like Summertime Saga, Mist, or Null Hypothesis.

Heads up, in that case. People only get notified of replies if you quote them. You can see the reply button on the bottom right of posts, it'll auto-quote for you.

Thank you for telling me about the quote thing. I appreciate it. Also thanks for the rest too. Yeah I would like to make a sandbox, but I first want to get started on smaller projects to get used to everything first. I've played too many where I had to mindlessly grind for progress, its horrible. Summertime Saga was my first to play.

Welcome to the forum!

1. Renpy is more straightforward to learn, if only because there is way more learning resources and stuff out there for it. It's also really really easy to just make a basic VN with simple choice trees. If you start to add a bunch of complicated stuff, then it may take some time...

HS2 doesn't have a lot in the way of people explaining how to use it, so it will be a lot of trial and error. Studio can be pretty frustrating, but after you work at it for a while you will get an ok workflow going, and that's all you really need

2. The best games have good believable characters, and slowly building tension between them, and especially establishing boundaries and then crossing them

I'm a new dev with Ep.02 of my game releasing soon. It's a Kinetic VN meaning there are no choices or branching story lines. I'm using renpy and HS2 studio. I have no background in coding and art but I still managed to get a decent demo out and Ep.01. There are a ton of learning resources out there so keep learning and experimenting. I really enjoy working on my VN so despite the frustration having to learn coding and making art, it's all worth it when you finally get to release something.

There's a youtuber named Lavalamp who does HS2 studio tutorials, just do a quick google search. He has a lot of easy to follow tutorials on getting started with HS2 studio.

Hope this helps!

Good luck with your project!
If you have time, you can use my game as a reference DAYDREAMER
It has easy to follow story, relatively easy coding and decent HS2 art.

Cheers!!!

I'll check it out. Always need more to play. Though im in the process of upgrading the HS2 mods right now, didn't have enough space for the maps or items part, but hoping I can do those individually when I need them.
