I believe I've gotten to the bottom of this issue. Depending on which screen you're on when you use the Rest icon, it's possible to advance the time of day while not triggering changes in characters' schedules. Some screens have ScheduleManagers attached to them and others don't. For example, if you were to see Meredith sunbathing in the back yard and then you go to the Kitchen (where you cannot rest) and then to the dining room to rest until Midnight, you would then be able to go to the Back Yard and see Meredith still sunbathing even when it's raining and at Midnight.
This issue certainly has been the culprit for several complaints people have had:
- Not being able to find Charlotte reading her Bible in the spying scene.
- Meredith getting "stuck" lounging in the back yard.
- Not being able to find Scott
