Wouldn't surprise me if many of the devs who add foot fetish content don't really understand it. I know I don't. I gave up trying to do anything with feet because it just doesn't do anything for me and I don't understand the appeal. Footjobs aren't really a foot fetish thing though. I mean, they are, but they're the most normie compatible variant of it. Like, even someone who doesn't have a foot fetish can kind of roll with that and at least tolerate it. That's why footjobs are the only foot fetish thing you ever see in vanilla games. Also, stinky and sweaty feet are definitely part of the fetish for many people.

Yeah I played around with a lot of stuff for my mod and decided that it really only makes sense to expand to a new fetish if there's at least some aspect of it that I find appealing and that I understand what's appealing about it. I need to be able to immerse myself in the scene and figure out how to make it hot.

If it's just NOT hot for me then I'm kind of lost and I'm wasting my time. So when someone suggests I add something new, if it's similar to something I do like I can try it and potentially get into it enough to actually do it justice. If it's something I'm not into at all or worse, it's something that actually repulses me then there's no point even trying. I wouldn't like developing it and the fans probably wouldn't like the finished product anyway.

personally I haven't found many games yet that do the feet fetish justice. I even played a lot of non translated japanese games and imo most of the games that focus on the foot fetish don't get it right. I have only 4 I've played that I liked so far but 3 of them are more on the masochistic side. But there are a lot of games that aren't focused on feet which implement at least 2-3 sex scenes that get the foot fetish right imo. But feet is only one of my kinks so I usually sate it by reading doujinshi (there are a loot of good ones). Miss the foot fetish tag here too, at least vndb has it.

can't speak for everyone but for most it doesn't have to be bare feet. A lot of people even prefer stockings / pantyhoses.

The recipient doesn't have to be involved. Could be something like this:
Indifferent: MC gets excited while looking at the heroines feet
Passive: like he rubs her feet while she's watching TV

etc.

Those are all really good ideas! The MC in our game leans more towards a dominant personality, but your suggestions definitely could be made to work with that.

Our artist did a series of coloring tests a few months back while we were still in pre-production (attached pic), mostly to nail the style and palette she'd use going forward. I have only this one saved on my laptop, but I think there are 5-6 foot shots in the series IIRC (among a bunch of other poses and kinks)... These pics were never supposed to be in the game, and we don't have any content for them, but you've outlined a few really neat ideas on how to approach the fetish!
