VN - Ren'Py - FreshWomen [S2 Ep.2 Part 3] [OppaiMan]

This is a really great VN ...with great potential. I am rating at a 3, and here is why.

The author is super skilled, tells a story with good capability makes it engaging. Excellent artwork. The characters are enduring.

There are only a few other examples of VNs like this that could be at the top of their game where the author then goes on to write other really great VNs.

The criticism. The author only goes so far with how human behavior works. For the most part women don't act the way portrayed in this VN. And not by just a little bit.

If the author made more of a build up over time to where a majority of the love interests (LIs and sides) built up a crush and want for the MC this would work better.

The LIs jump right into lewd scenes and are basically robotic sex-bots. For example, it is hard to believe the nerd girl LI would just jump into getting hammered by the MCs big dick without being astonished by the MC's body.

For the most part, there is no dick-drunk from the LIs where they are wanting to be passionate about the MC all the time. Worse when they leave the scene it is like 'see ya' later' and a wave.

This VN would be stellar with strict paths. You get an LI and that path plays out to the end of the VN. Where practical, consequences for being a man whore.

As it is now, you can bang everything and it just makes the MCs character unappealing, shallow and one-dimensional.

If this VN was altered to fit more into that format, you would not be able to rate it at a 5,... only a 10 would do. It has that good of a foundation to be untouchable, and, the best.

This game is going from bad to worse…

I mean, who writes this kind of crappy text? Are you an 18y-old horndog?

There’s absolutely nothing interesting about the interactions and conversations. It’s all blablabla.

Not to mention the road the story has taken. You’re making shit up as you go and completely lost your original blueprint.

Season 2 Episode 1 blew the whole build-up from the entire first season to pieces, and Episode 2 tries to introduce a new and interesting story-arch but fails to deliver, instead it becomes boring and meaningless.

And btw, what's up with those weird faces? Certain emotions you want to emphasize, look like the person just realized he/she stepped in a giant turd.

I am giving it two stars only for effort, game has animations, voice over, e.t.c.

I found the game bland and boring, art non-attractive, scenes non-hot.
None of the characters or plot points feel believable or even remotely interesting.

Feels like a "quality" game to earn money, but it is missing something, something that you can find in less budget projects.

Like an interesting gameplay, or person, or plot.

As of now, this is no longer a game driven by a plot of long term planning. Game started started off with a direction and the setting was solid until the project's support skyrocketed on some monetisation platforms which eventually made the Dev seemingly giveup on his original vision for the game: now it's a game that revolves around whichever love interest character wins the poll of popularity, she gets a lewd scene for the next update. Yes, you heard it right, it's now basically a sex simulator, whoever wins the poll gets a sex scene and the "plot" that dev will have to come up with is forced into the story of the game. How would that work for a visual NOVEL? There can't be a seamless continuity when you are not planning to write the game based on your ideas but you are in the passive, forced to come up with whatever lewd setting to fit your poll winning sex doll into the novel.

Great game! No shortage of lewds and sex scenes, a very diverse cast of LIs of every shape, age and size, an actual interesting story (which surprisingly starts with the tired amnesia trope but slowly develops into something deeper), funny moments, fantastic renders, a fairly likeable MC for VN standards....

Though players might wish the dev had done A or B differently, I think those will come down to a matter of personal taste. For example, personally I probably like a bit kinkier stuff in VNs I play whereas this is pretty middle-of-the-fairway sex wise. But that's not really an issue, you know what I mean? More like the dev's choice, so I can't really say the dev has made any mistakes with this one.

It's not going to win the Nobel of Literature but it's pretty solid. Aspiring devs should look to this as a framework for their own projects. And maybe the dev themselves here looked to some other college-themed-VN-that-shall-remain-unnamed as inspiration (especially given the male sidekick which has almost the exact same personality) but that's not bad in and of itself

The MC is fine for VN standards even if some of his choices, highly emotional reactions, and general "game" feels off at times. But then again, I'm not expecting Nobel-level characters and writing here.

Full disclosure: I haven't finished the game yet, so seeing some of these other lower rated reviews, maybe the writing goes downhill by the time season 2 rolls in with full force? I don't know, but for now it's a solid VN to keep going through while I wait for updates to other VNs with bated breath. Again, it's like an easy choice and distraction when I need some escapism.

    For now, 5/5 with gusto!

Maybe one of the greatest games on this site. likeable characters with interesting personalities & a protagonist's personality that's deeper than a puddle. Great animations & original story what more could anyone ask for?

    5/5

    [Reviewed Season 2 Ep 2 Part 2]

This is a top-tier game -- one of the best in active development. The production value is extremely high with beautiful girls, renders and animations. It is undeniably inspired by that massively-popular, college-bro, multiple love interest other title on the site and it doesn't quite measure up in overall story quality, but there's not much wrong with this one.

    The Good ((y))
    • Really high production value -- the game just looks great
    • Gorgeous, hyper-detailed models and renders
    • A diversity of love interests with different personalities, ages, body types and kinks
    • You can pursue multiple love interests without obviously excluding the others (so far)
    • Well-executed cinematography and visual storytelling
    • An original story that has familiar elements / setting but still feels fresh
    • Hours and hours of content
    • Charged, erotic H-scenes with smooth, seamless animation
    The Not-So-Good ((n))
    • Updates have been infrequent and a little choppy -- I would have appreciated a quick "catch you up on the story" montage at the beginning of each chapter / episode / part
    • The H-scenes feature female voice acting (at least in recent updates). It wasn't bad but it actually broke my immersion a little bit -- I would prefer not to have it. Your mileage may vary.
    • I don't love the MC -- he's pretty dense, naive and vacillates between "helpful bro" and "kind of a dick".
    • The story isn't super realistic and some of the plot points are pretty out there
Overall, an outstanding title with a lot of content and beautiful character models. Can't go wrong.

Would rate it 2,5/5, but imho it's not a 3, so a 2 it is.
In a TL;DR, good animations, great models, cringey and less than believable story, and lame spineless main character, this last one being the main reason I stopped playing.
I'm not asking for a gigachad that annihilates any and all opposition, and slays all the pussy in the blink of an eye, but this dude's attitude, it ain't it chief, especially with those ridiculous and annoying af reactions he has.

Try it if you want, scenes as I said are pretty good, and the models are good too, but that's about it with the game.

A really excellent game with great graphics and an interesting storyline. I would definitely recommend this game and will be checking out other works by this developer. Buy the game to show your support.

    [SPOILER ALERT]

There's a lot of things that I need to talk about this game.

First, I am actually enjoying this game. The graphics are great, the scenes are also great, and the VO actually pretty great too. Most AVNs that have this option are usually bad, but this is the exception. So far, I am actually impressed with the quality of FreshWomen.

Second, I will talk about the story. To be fair, Season 1 is very good. FW's story kinda reminds me a little bit with Summertime Saga, but it has its differences. The story starts with you being a freshman with some memory loss. I'm glad that the writer didn't make it permanent, that would've killed the game right away. You come to study at a college where it's located at your dad's last workplace. College is not your main mission, finding your dad's whereabout is. At this city called Minerva Bay, you meet new people and also "new" people. During his investigation, his newly found friends are helping him to uncover your greatest mystery. I can't talk more about it but yeah I am very entertained with Season 1 so I'll give it 5/5.

Season 2 however, it's kinda different, In S2 E1, the story still revolves around MC and his dad, it also gives some closure about the entire drama (but it's not over yet entirely). S2 E2 is where I have a feeling that Oppai-Man is starting to lose control of the narratives. In this particular episode, the "main girls" are mostly sidelined by the whores of Hell's Angels (previously The Station). I don't know what the fuck Oppai-Man thinking at this point, Sam, Lily, and Susan are already forgiving MC and even asking him to start over. They even gave his apartment and job back but the MC is suddenly saying no to them and proceed to stay and work in the strip club. Motherfucker just started college and decided to take over a strip club? what kind of bullshit is this? if it happened to me, I would've chose Sam's apartment and worked for Susan again rather than risking my fucking neck for some random strip club. Guess what? in the end he endangers everyone who works there and they're in crisis of being expelled from the college because Hell's Angels is operating illegaly in the campus ground. Imagine you've being given a normal life but then you rejected it because your brain didn't fuction properly all of sudden.

Seriously dude, this is truly disappointing. All I want is S2 E3 will be about MC clearing his and his workers' names and get over with it. I don't want this whole shithow become the main issue for next few episodes. Julia is also missing entirely in Season 2, what a bummer. No wonder why Being a DIK is always on the top of the food chain, DPC really knows how to write a consistent story for years. The fact that 97% of AVN writers don't even know how to be consistent need to be studied. NLT's previous work (The Genesis Order) and Lust Theory S2 are some of the example of it, I just hope FreshWomen doesn't follow the same path.

I'll keep my eye on this, I might change the stars in the future. It could be worse or better. You're lucky I gave you four stars, Oppai-Man.

EDIT: I decided to lower the rating to three stars because I don't believe the developer care much about the storyline anymore after recent update. It's getting more ridiculous at this point. Mind you, this is the lowest rating I can give for this game. I won't give it two or one star because even the story is going off road, at least other things stay true to their path.

I had a tough time getting through this

    - Story 3/10 the writing is by far the biggest flaw
    - Animations 9/10
    - Characters 5/10 same problem as the story
    - Renders 10/10
    - Music 5/10
    - Enjoyability 4/10

A game with good art (including animations) but that's about it for the good parts. It is heavily dragged down by its amateur writing

This game is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star game to me. 5 if all you care about are the lewds. Personally I consider this a B tier game on my personal rating. As this game is enjoyable but it is also it does come across a bit porny more than an AVN at times. But there is alot of content.

    The Good

Animations - This is one of the better games when it comes with alot of animations. With all the different angles I did think the lewds were quite hot. Also with the 4k resolution I didn't notice any compression artifacts in the animations which can be distracting at times in other games.
The story - This is probably the best thing about this game. While the story isn't amazing or anything it's actually pretty good and alot better than expected.

Tho I will say part of the mystery in the story feels like it got rushed in Season 2 to finish up and move onto the next arc. It felt like it needed at least one more epiosde to finish that arc up.

    The mixed

    Voice Acting -
This is hit and miss with people. While the voice acting isn't top tier or anything which I wouldn't expect from an AVN anyhow. It is a welcome addition to this game as it makes it different than alot of other AVN's. As to me it shows this dev is showing some effort to be different than everyone else. I did quite enjoy the voice acting especially during the lewd scenes even if it wasn't the best and can sound kind of bad at times. Especially one of the male.

    The Bad

    The characters
I find some of the dialogue or scenes come across a bit porny at times. While that in it's self isnt a bad thing exactly. As sometimes being porny can be funny. The thing is I didn't feel like you got to know the characters that well for my MC to make any beleiveable romantic connection to them. As they are all easy to sleep with.

For example Alyssa tells the MC she wants to take things slow, then the next time you spend time with her you can have sex. It's as of she forgot she was going to go slow. I get it this game has the harem tag so the dev is aiming to include alot of lewd scenes.

I just would of liked to feel you got to know the characters a little better with a bit more character development. Instead of them feeling like they are mostly there for the lewd scenes and to move the the MC / main story forward.

It's not a bad game, but it's not very good either. I don't think the choices really affect anything and the characters are all very chatty. Even during the sex scenes they keep on talking and talking and it gets boring after a point. I also don't think the main story is very original and interesting.

I think Fresh Woman is great, the Stroy is great, the graphics are great.
However, you notice that the German translation was largely done by machine, so many of them don't make sense in German or are worded incorrectly.
Without English voice acting I wouldn't have understood the game.

    Version: Season 2 Ep.2

Freshwomen is weird. on the surface it seems like a 5 stars game and it took me quite a while to figure why I disliked it.

You play as a young man who lost his memory in an accident, after regaining some of the memory back you decide to move back to the town you grew up in to enroll to college and to search for MC's dad disappearances.
Soon enough you find yourself meeting all sorts of LI's, they seem pretty diverse and interesting, but more on that later.
The plot is pretty whacky but written well enough, the dialogues are up to par, everything is very pretty and the sex scenes are long, animated, and plenty.

Sounds like a 5 star review so far, doesn't it? but if you look closely the cracks starts to show.
You get no chance to care for the LI's, you spend some time with them but at no point did I care for any of them, they feel shallow, almost robotic at times, they only exist to serve their part in MC's life and it shows.
Part of it can be attributed to the fact things move quickly, too quickly. you meet a girl in a caffee and before even realising it you're part of her dance crew and sleep in her dance studio. you meet a girl in a book store and in a moment she's leading the investigation into MC's dad, it doesn't feel organic or real.
The other part is about the characters only existing to serve their role in MC's life, there are background stories, the LI's have interests and hobbies, but we never actually see that, every single interaction is a way for the LI's to progress the main plot, leads to sex almost immediately or is used to reinforce the specific LI's one single characteristic (frusrated spouse, nerdy investigator, bitchy, playful, etc), once again it all felt synthetic and caused me to disengage.
Well, there's a third thing actually. these are freshwomen, they are young, allegedly inexperienced, yet every single one of them is a horned up sex fiend that is an expert in sucking cock and providing pleasure. not only it is weird, it feels like a cheap, pointless porno.

It's like everything is made (in a very rushed way) to either progress the main plot or lead to a sex scene, there's nothing in between, no random casual interactions, no small moments to make the characters feels more real or to form any real connection to them.

So overall, on a quick glance FreshWomen is technically pretty amazing, it looks good, it sounds good, its technically well written, but its just as shallow as it is pretty, and at times feels dry and soulless.
Definitely give it a go if you like pretty pictures and don't mind skipping dialogue / gallery mod.

Great quality renders and animated sex scenes for those who fap playing these games. Other than that, I think the game doesn't have much to offer. The MC is pretty dumb and has 0 charisma. I personally really dislike the exaggerated facial expressions; maybe they're supposed to be funny but end up being cringy and childish imo. The story is so predictable 'cause it's the same concept of many other VNs: A kid whose parent disappeared, and he is investigating and blahblah, boring. The girls are beautiful, but most (if not all) are pretty shallow and lack a personality; the interactions with them feel so superficial and fake. The game is full of clichés as well, like the classic hot landlady who is ignored by her husband and is only attracted to the MC thanks to the third leg he has as cok (because all women love giganosaurus coks, right?). Very mediocre VN if you want a rich story with funny and interesting characters to have realistic interactions with. If you're just looking for gorgeous girls to have sex with, then this is the VN for you.

So let me start off praising the game for what it excels in, which is mostly season 1.

I recently ran through a new play through due to voicing being added to season 1 and I will say that for the most part, it is done very well. The actresses fit their models, and lean in to the roll pretty nicely. Sometimes there are differences in the tone used to voice a line and the actual context and scenario presented, but it isn't too jarring, mostly something to point out

Renders I believe are also very well. Designs of the characters in an H game is what makes people play it or not, and all the characters so far are very great design wise, even better than most other games I would say. It also feels that episodic focus on each girl lines up well and fits within the narrative and pace it moves at, as there has never really been a moment where I thought, "Why is there so much of this chick when there is none of this one". Only case I found that in was Susan, which before, wasn't a big issue as it made sense narrative wise, but as of recent is much more disappointing.

Story is going to be the second most important thing as that is what keeps players around waiting for new content and willing to get to the juicy stuff. Which is why I am happy to say season 1 storytelling was done pretty well. Nothing revolutionary, just the main plot of the father mystery and sub plot of day to day college endeavors and pleasures. There are certain times where plot points can appear and not be mentioned when should and vice versa, but it isn't to an amount that is detrimental.

Overall, I would say season 1 was an 8.7/10

Now here is where the rating drops

First off, the voicing itself I feel is the main thing that keeps this season up to now on it's legs. It doesn't bring anything supreme to the table, but it does continue to be as good as the first season. Same faults, but flaws will appear.

When it comes to rendering, specifically character design however, it seems to have all went downhill. There are many people saying it is great, and many others saying it's horrendous. I believe I sit right in the middle with my opinion being it feels uncanny or awkward in certain scenes. Facial expressions have gotten extremely exaggerated in certain scenes in episode 2 where they feel unnatural.
My main problem with this however, and probably the issues most people have with the change in rendering to characters, is why? In season 1, it was already very good, and I do understand the goal to achieve more realistic visuals, but if you have very positive feedback on 1 of the 2 main things people play the game for, changing that is something that needs to be done carefully. I have seen the polls of voting for the changes, but most of the renders didn't need change in the first place. Now it compromises a major part of consumers decision to play the product, and the worst part of it is that the old renders are through most of the game, so if a player looks at this from a face value, and never played this before, they will see the the first, older promotional material and if they enjoy it, once they do go through the game, they will end up with having to make that choice again, and unfortunately I have seen many comments on players dropping the game because they dislike the newer style, and I don't blame them. I do think Freshwomen should have it's own style, and I strongly believe it achieved that with what it had in season 1. There is a chance for revisions to be made and it's good this shift was made earlier as opposed to deeper in plot, as it can always be changed or potentially reversed. Unfortunately, I doubt episode 2 will get a revision on it's rendering to match season 1, but it is still a possibility I do think should be considered if the game wants to have long term success.

Unfortunately, there is another issue in the writing. Now with season 2, the story seems very packed with content and not in a good way. It isn't filled with time to play, but more it tries to cram as much plot and writing as it can, which makes it feel very rushed and also non consequential, or straight up stupid. The father of the MC being introduced this early [assuming the game plans for minimum 3 seasons with 5 episodes] was concerning, but it could've been a larger plot device, with the father being much more of and antagonist than I thought. That notion was quickly destroyed. Season 2 went in depth with the father but felt liked it glossed over the motive. Major discoveries were made in quick succession that changed perspective on the father, and before I knew it, the episode ended with the father gone, the conflict seemingly resolved, and even reinforced this idea at the start of episode 2 with Sam. That's it. That was what the main motive of season 1 led up to. With the main plot point being wrapped, only one remained. It might not really be the end of the father, but so many truths were revealed that at this point, opening up that plot thread again would be a mess, or at least, very empty and would need to force bullshit and spontaneous writing. Regardeless, that means the college plot point is left. And I thought that spending time with the main 4 girls, which 3 go to the college at this point, with most side girls joining aswell, you would THINK that the story would focus on the girls. Nothing with Chloe, as she had the spotlight in episode 1 and I think was honestly the ONLY good thing done. Maybe some time with Sue or Alyssa as we saw. But nope, instead it was centered around working at a night club, while also pimping girls out. Then throughout the whole episode, we did see Alyssa, but with the combination of rendering and writing, it just felt lackluster compared to pimping girls and fucking Gabby. There wasn't even small talk with Julia, or Chloe which back in season 1, there would be focus on 1 character and a side girl, with small convos with the rest, but it seems it lost that element which makes the story feel more narrow and not as enticing. Even now, the other major plot point of going to college, which is IMPLIED IN THE NAME of the game "FRESHWOMAN", seems to be in jeopardy aswell. Now it seems like the focus is turning from mystery with a fun college life to "Living In A Brothel", which isn't a bad game or story, but to make a shift that drastic and sudden? It feels like lazy writing, it feels like the narrative team wanted and had sooo much to work with, that they wanted to put in as much as they could while still maintaining integrity and a story easy to follow. Instead, the crammed in as much as they could and realized, they had TOO much to go off on, and minimized it to a point where all those things that could've been much bigger and more impactful, just got introduced and brushed off due to desire to wanting to work on the next thing. I get it that the devs would want us to recieve as much content possible, especially if high amounts of passion and excitement are behind it, but compromising 80% or more of your game, split in two subjects by these poor decisions is very dissapointing and hurts both player, and creator as we don't recieve a product we enjoy, and you don't produce a product that sells.

    Overall, season 2 was a 3.1/10

Of course there always will be fans for any product, including me. While I have my gripes, I do really enjoy the game, and replaying it made me reignite the flame I had when I first played, but if this is what's to come in future, I'm not sure if I will be able to continue. Of course, it's still early, so change is best made now, but also remember that if something is done well, change isn't always neccessary. Afterall, this is still at it's core, an H game, so it doesn't take much to grow a fanbase, but this is probably one of the harder hitters in terms of popular H games, and it would be a real shame to see it fall before it even reaches it's peak, if it hasn't already reached it in season 1.
