Sometimes more of the same is a good thing, right?
Despite what you might think, Funbag Fantasy 2 is actually a prequel to the original, taking place in the same universe, but a few decades prior to the events of Funbag Fantasy 1.
You play the role of an average schmuck by the name of Ruin Dimidium, a student at the academy who has finished his studies with the lowest passing grade in the institution's history. A series of (un)fortunate events has him becoming the captain of the guard of a backwater castle, where he uncovers a devious plot orchestrated by the rogue castellans, befriends the locals, and meets a bodacious babe who falls in love for him. Throughout the length of the story he will be presented with choices which will take you through various routes where he'll add even more waifus to your harem, taking part in battles, both physical as well as political, all the while rising up in the ranks of the social hierarchy until eventually attaining the title of king.
Sound familiar? Well it should if you've read the previous title, because this is almost a mirror of that novel. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's an exact copy, because it's not. All I'm saying is that the writer took a page from the George Lucas book of story writing. You can say that it's like poetry. It rhymes.
Look, although the FF2 uses FF1 as a template almost to the point of self plagiarization, that doesn't mean that the novel is bad by any means. It's just that at times it's very predictable and you wished the author did something different.
That being said I think that this novel was overall better written than the first one. It takes plot points from FF1 and refines them. I think that overall it's a better experience than the first. It also helps that I enjoyed the female characters more this time around as they all had their role to play during the climax (heh) of the true (harem) route.
The main girl this time around is this fine piece of ass named Zebia. Elf. Dark Skin. White hair. Big tits. Round ass. Can kick ass. It's as if the author made her with my own preferences in mind! She's a bit of an idiot sometimes, and also a bit tsundere but overall she was my favorite of the bunch, especially during the final moments of the true route where she goes beyond the call of duty for her beloved Ruin. The only downside to her route is that it was a bit short for my liking.
The other elf character is called Elysia, an elven princess, who in contrast to Zebia, is a fair skinned elf with blonde hair and green eyes. She's the tsundere of the group, kinda how like Isis was in the first (they even look similar lol). Her route was really good, containing just the right amount of action and political intrigue. It's my second favorite after the harem one.
Shaharl is the succubus in this story. She's perverted just like Shamsiel was, however Shaharl is a noble, and as such will act regally when she needs to. I found the dynamic between her noble and her slutty side to be the best part about her character. Her route was unfortunately short and among the weakest. One thing to note tho, is that her route is potentially the canon route due to its ending. I won't say what happens but you'll see once you get there if you've already read FF1.
Lorelia is a mermaid princess with a very moe look and attitude about her. Despite her bubbly appearance she can actually kick some serious ass with her tail. Mermaids in this universe are famous for their paizuri skills so you can imagine what her main focus is. Again, her route is also disappointingly short and it ends before it even begins. A shame.
Last but not least, is the queen of the land of Hillsland: Nadine. She is Ruin's last conquest so her route comes last during the harem route. She has the biggest tits of all of them, but accord to the author's notes in the slides during the credits screen, Luceria is still bigger than her. Also, just like Luceria she is also a nymph(omaniac).
Just as with FF1, just because the focus is on the girls, it doesn't mean that the male characters have been left behind in terms of characterization. In true shonen fashion, Ruin will befriend a great deal of characters, some of whom were his enemies at first. Of course, the villains are truly despicable and you will grow to hate them over the course of the story. I think my favorite of them was Elisya's uncle Duke Gewndolen who is a master schemer with a wit to match. He stole every scene that he was in.
From a technical perspective the novel is flawless. The controls are perfectly customizable, and the novel is actually 16:9 this time around. The first one was 4:3 originally and instead of keeping the aspect ratio and adding black bars on the sides, these doofus devs decided to cut the CGs to 16:9 when they re-released it. Thankfully this is not he case here. The CGs are even more detailed this time around and the VA is spot on as usual. Also as usual the OST is just background music. The only one that caught my attention was Shamsiel's theme.
As for the H scenes... they're kinda like the same as they were in the first title. They mainly focus on tits of course but luckily there's some more ass shots here and there too in order to spice things up a little bit. The CGs are beautiful like I said, but the scenes yet again drag on for far too long. I mostly just sped my way though most of them, especially during the harem route where they seemed to be coming one after the other. Most of the content is vanilla with one tentacle scene and one DP scene.
Overall I enjoyed my time with Funbag Fantasy 2. It has the same strengths and the same weaknesses as the first title, but as a whole it's a tighter experience overall. It's debatable if you should read this one before FF1 since this is a prequel, but personally I'd still go with the release order.
Since I gave the first one 4 stars I am going to to the same to this one. Verdict: an excellent addition to every coomer's collection. Fans of big oppai and fantasy stories should not miss out on this one.
100% completion took me 33 hours, listening to every voiced line except those during the H scenes.
PS: you should use a walkthough since getting some of the endings and CGs could be tricky otherwise.
