This... might be the most batshit insane H-game I've ever played. And that's saying something. How do I even begin? It's a weird collection of opposites. On the one hand, the story and world-building are way more extensive than most other games in the genre. On the other hand, they can be hilariously shallow, like renaming the Pacific to the Pazific, homo sapiens to homo zapiens, and Russia to Winterland, or the pointless exposition dump about futanari genetics. Then you have the presentation which tries to do way more than their budget allowed with poorly animated but still very much present set-pieces and cinematic first-person shots, but it also has a PNG tank rolling into screen over a low-poly park. The sex scenes are almost exclusively with faceless minor characters which is not very fun, but that also follows the intent and themes of the plot, the way the Fisterhood (dear god that is a horrible name) dehumanises and objectifies women. This may be the most confusing game to review.
The story follows a futa named Natalia who joins an organisation fighting for the rights of futas and is rapidly radicalised by a charismatic but untrustworthy leader. All of this as you might have guessed culminates in a revolution. I can definitely agree with the other posters that the game is political, but that doesn't necessarily make it good. The tension between an authoritarian government and a radical supremacist rebel group that hides behind peaceful slogans (until the end) is interesting but they're both comical in their depiction. The futa ideology is a strange casserole of Marxism, radical feminism, and fascist supremacism. It does not make even a little sense and I sincerely hope the writer wasn't trying to convey a message through it. This however could be intentional as the leader of the movement bends the ideology at a whim to justify her goals and power grabs. On the other side of the fence, the USV (stand-in for the USA) is the most stock depiction of runaway capitalism merged with militarism. It's not even remotely subtle with news anchors talking about how the Military Police is bringing order to the country. The way all of this is delivered is not very interesting either: mostly through exposition dumps. But you may rightfully ask why the fuck should I care how good the depiction of a political struggle is in my porn game? Well, because the game REALLY wants you to care. It's the majority of the plot. The porn bits are almost used as scene breaks and are with only a few exceptions unimportant. The game is not enough if you just view it as a few sex scenes and some optional context. I started skimming somewhere around the second military training montage and that was before the military police conflict escalation at a protest/riot.
So does this mean the story sucks? Not exactly. What is well shown is Nat's personal struggles and her slow indoctrination into the organisation. Other characters are not so interesting, but I really did want to see where all of this madness will lead the protagonist. I was in a certain sense invested. I do have to warn though that the story is absurdly dark at times. Like obviously it's a fetish game about domination, rape, and breeding, but it goes above and beyond that. For example, the protagonist can get sexually assaulted and at least to me it was less of a sex scene (though there is still some fetish fuel) and more just sad. It's by someone she trusts and she ends up rationalising and ignoring it. The scene is optional but it's not obvious you're opting into it. The eight endings (with the exception of the fakeout one) are all somewhat interesting and were easy to find.
The presentation is once again all over the place. The actual sex animations are not repeated but they are so generic that they might as well be. Add to this that the game purposefully avoids showing faces and they become filler. The few scenes with unique characters have some nice touches to them but the rest almost feel like a chore. The normal presentation is strange too. It tries to go for scale but ends up with some very stiff character models and hilariously low-poly environments. However it still tries so hard that I have to give it points. I wasn't exactly expecting a bunker explosion animation in a sex game. Sound is divisive too. Normal sound effects are passable, sex sfx are pretty bad. Music is mostly meh, but the "military/revolutionary" track is very good. I wish I could find who is credited for that one.
Overall, Futanari Revolution is bizarre. It puts in way more effort than the average porn game but in bizarre and strange places where what it achieves is not enough. I want to praise its story for its scope, but that doesn't erase its shortcomings. I want to mock it for its simplistic and almost comical politics, but no other H-game I can think of even reached this level so is it really fair to criticise something they were never obligated to try with in the first place? And that's not even getting into the random asides like the game suddenly dropping a hot take about preferring psychology over psychiatry or talks about how the education system needs to teach critical thinking. There is nothing quite like this game, and I wish the subject matter didn't make it too taboo for mainstream attention. I'd love someone to make a two hour long video dissecting this strange creation. Ultimately, I have to rate it on how satisfied I am compared to what I expected. I thought this would be a futa-centric breeding and domination fetish game. I got something way more and way less at the same time. I walk away confused but also impressed. If nothing else, it is unique.
