Review for version: Final
This was a charming story that I quite enjoyed despite the anime/Manga tropes.
The story starts with the MC, an American man in his thirties, who has just lost his job of five years as well as having been dumped by his girlfriend. The story then jumps ahead, after the MC has been job hunting for some time. While at the mall, he spots a woman trying to pass fliers out to passers-by. Her name is Yumiko and she is looking for people interested in taking a job as an English teacher in Japan. Deciding to take the job, he arrives in Japan soon after.
Once there, he meets a fellow member of the teaching staff named Makiko who speaks English well. She is a PE teacher who exudes energy and cheerfulness. He also meets another woman named Kotone while in town, searching for a place to eat. While a bit arrogant and boastful, she also speaks English, allowing him to hold a conversation with her.
Soon after, he misses his bus stop and ends up in the middle of nowhere. While exploring the area, he stumbles upon a shrine in disrepair. Deciding to clean it up, he releases two Fox spirits. The first is Aina, a voluptuous spirit of fertility. Knowing only Japanese, she is unable to converse with the MC but continually annoys him with her advances. The second is Fumo, a spirit of infertility. Unlike Aina, she is not as physically gifted but she can speak English, so she is able to tell him that, every three hundred years, they come to earth. Aina must conceive a child to succeed in her mission while Fumo must keep her from doing to succeed in her own mission which she has never been able to do. They are unable to travel far from the MC as they are bound to him for one year, or until Aina conceives a child.
Over the course of a year, the MC will spend time with all of the girls (except Yumiko, who returns near the end of the story). My first playthrough, I ended up getting Yumiko's ending. Despite not having much of a presence in the novel, her character is tragically sad. Not liking children (despising them, actually), she quickly became the focus of my attention when she reappeared.
The artwork is nice. Not a whole lot of variety but still nice. No H-Scenes (in Yumiko's arc, at least) but I don't play VNs for the pornography. The game played fine via Joiplay, although there were some menu bugs such as the save screen being a tad wonky. Not game breaking, just something to keep in mind. As usual, I play with audio muted so I cannot comment on the facet of the title. It took me around ten hours to complete.
All-in-all, I really enjoyed enjoyed this VN and I look forward to getting the other endings at some point. It is rare when I like all of the love interests in a VN. I'll definitely be keeping this installed on my tablet.
