I stand by my point of "It should not be your main source of income." As for people who see THAT as cash grab level efforts well they're twats. I personally am an unpleasant asshole most of the time but if a game dev I liked just came out and said his options were either to for some reason of the day censor their work so they can use patreon to make it their full time job OR take their time and do all that I'd say take your damn time. Not saying this is you but compromising your art for the sake of money to me means you just dont give a shit about your art.
It's either get one update per 8-12 months or that.
And the amount of support that games with long update cycle have is big only when it's already well-established Dev: Philly, PinkCake etc.
Dudes who start with big update per 6+ months cycle - Red Dust Games, TLGGames etc are nowhere to be found now.

If someone put thousands of hours of work - he should be paid for that.
I don't mean to sound rude, but you remind me of dude who comes into a bar at 9 PM and gets mad that his order for Long Island Iced Tea takes 1 minute longer than expected despite bar being full.

Anyway, this argument has no point.
Have fun.

To put it into perspective, I'm currently sitting at 2,447 hours in ONE program. I use four to make my game. My game has more work put into it than a normal 9-5 job, and it's only a year and some months old. Most of us already get very little return on that, and some want us to get even less, possible none at all? Something that can only be said by someone uninformed about the colossal amount of work it is to put these together for people to enjoy. (Or hate, can't please everyone.)

Chaos La Croix I'm not chastising you, my man. Just wanted to give you an idea on why devs are willing to censor themselves. Patreon is still the best monetization platform despite all their BS. After the amount of work we put in, being told we should just suck it up and get little/zero return isn't really fair.

With all due respect im acutely aware of why devs are willing to censor their own work. And I do NOT mean any offense but I just dont care. If you make concessions for your art then its not YOUR art. Its someone elses. I am not saying you shouldnt get anything in return for your work. I know how it sounds but I do mean that. Im just....frustrated over this shit because far FAR too many artists and devs are willing to kiss patreons ass and tell them they're not evil just misunderstood when its frankly as close to evil as one can get in my eyes to stifle the freedom of another. Expression included. And more and more artists are seemingly willing to do that by the day. Some completely changing their games, art, fuck me even (apparently) music according to a friend of mine who tried to get their music monetized through patreon. And frankly its a harsh and unfair thing to say but they could easily go looking for other options besides patreon. They might not find any sure but they could try. Subscribestar, itch.io, pixivs fanbox to name some of the best (even if some of them are annoying to get set up). Or in a pinch they could just put up a thread on here or somewhere similar and say "If you like this my monthly goal is X amount here's my paypal. I'll work on it when I can and if I reach that goal i'll be more inclined to work on it."...unless thats against f95s rules but im not sure. Its been a LONG time since I read them and my memory is not the best.

That's a fair, albeit harsh, take. I even share some of the same views. I was on patreon, but switched to substar because it's become clear that substar will at least try to fight for their creators. (Example being them dropping paypal instead of censorship.) I am okay with the monetary hit from that. I will never make on substar what I could possibly have made on patreon. But, I can't blame other devs for staying on patreon. Other than steam, it's where you have the most reach, the most success. Money can't be the drive of every decision, but when you put so much work in for so little return it's extremely disheartening. It feels like no one actually cares, that our work isn't good enough.

Don't worry, I'm not offended or anything. I get the frustration at the situation. It sucks. All of us hate it. Our options are limited though. Wherever we go, we're the minority. Adult games are such small potatoes we don't have any sway or power. We can't do anything to change the situation. Only thing we can really do is adapt and hope.

I want to be clear, I'm not angry or upset. I wanted to give you, and anyone else reading, the "other sides" perspective on things. These things aren't simple. None of us want censorship. But we deal with it because we have very little options.

Perfectly fair man. Honestly....this whole thing is driving me up a damn wall. But getting to talk to such a damn fine creator has managed to make my day better. I hope yours goes equally as good. (Also yeah im a bit more harsh than absolutely necessary. Lifes been a bitch to me and its a damn hard habit to break. Been tryin for years with no luck)

I am a game dev, I've created 9 game projects so far. Each and every single one of them are Free and Open Source. And they will remain that under my 2 pen names. I also used no donations platforms at all, because all of my games are non-profit to the fullest extent.

While you gamers like to bitch and cry about censorship, yet you weak-willed cucks don't actually do shit about it. Actions speak louder than words. When it came time for you gamers do your part against censorship, you cowardly cucks were not willing to fight it. Non of my games are censored or even self-censored.

I used to fight for you gamers, but now I feel disguested by how cowardly, toxic and entitled you are. I've been working on games for free and you still find excuses to talk shit or not support me. You gamers shown that you are willing to bite the hand that feeds. You had an ally with me, I used to fight strongly for gamers, even after becoming a game dev.

Oh and this site, this site doesn't give a damn about us devs either, they rejected my games due to the loli content. We know that antis and the woke hate that content. Which I did not censor for the likes of them, so I placed them in other sites that will allow them.

If any gamers actually care about censorship or a better video game experience, you should start by supporting FOSS/FLOSS, and platforms that are for free speech. Such as Mastodon, Lemmy, Aether, LBRY, etc.

I actually use Linux as my main day to day operating system, I even use it to develop games.

Ignoring the fact you sound even more abrasive and upset than me what games have you made? And can you DM me a link to'em?

This site will censor the links, they really hate their rival. The creator of that site, said they got tired of the toxicty and attitude towards l0li games. Even the users there are refugees from this site. They refer to it as Cuck Zone.

I don't like to sugar coat things which is why I like to say them as it is. Besides, I'm burnt out from doing free games and fighting for gamers. I know they don't deserve my help and contributions. Because of that, I will no longer do free games once I finish up my Director's cut for one of my games. I will move on and be making games for profit instead.

Ayooooo saaame man. The truth sucks a lot but its still true. Better to accept it over pretending its bullshit. Also. About making games for profit. Being completely genuine here, I wish you good luck man. Maybe someday we can make what we want over making pc bullshit.

Actually, I should probably stay out of such discussions, but since I have a few seconds:

Most devs here are probably not full-time devs, this is more of a hobby.
Possibly also with the hope of being able to make a living from it at some point, but only a minority is more likely to be able to do that.
Like any other hobby, this one costs time and money. Assets, new PC, whatever.
And not everyone has the money they need to develop the game as they would like. So where is that supposed to come from?

Which brings us to Patreon. Who else will spend money for a hobby dev?

To get to the point again:

Patreon gives money demands changes, you ask for no changes and don't give any money.

Nothing wrong for ask, but the other offer often seems better.
