Did you get past the first couple of episodes? I remember the start being quite drab, but it does pick up later on.

As for me, I'd say Leap of Faith. It all seemed too fake, like the protagonist randomly inviting 2 homeless girls to live with him - nobody does that. Plus all the little missing details like the homeless girls having literally no possession of their own and looking pristine.

Being a DIK
Never played it, but I see people gushing about how great it is.

The art looks fine, the story sounds fine, the characters don't have any exaggerated proportions, the tags have nothing that would turn me off. The game just didn't have anything that jumped out at me, to make me say 'Wow, that looks interesting'.

all them "realistic-look" 3dcg games, somehow repels me.

I am not sure it is just some uncanny valley thing, instead I suspect that the 2dcg/ artsy style eases my acceptance that it is (just) a fantasy. I can then go along themes that I would find unacceptable the more the more realistic (looking) characters would be.
After all I do NOT look for realism in games. Plausabilty yes, coherence yes, following its own "rule-set" yes, but realism: no.

It is for me. They clearly aren't truly realistic, the textures and shading produce this distinct plastic look, face geometry is all wrong, especially when making facial expressions. It's just BAD. I'm not against realistic look, but this slop looks nothing like reality. There are AAA games (usually made with UE), that achieve way better looks at a fraction of compute cost, as they are rendered real-time.

Dreamland. The storyline is so bad and the characters so brain dead, I ended up on a life support machine afterwards.

I can't say that I don't love them because I never download them, but when I feel a game is hugely successful, I assume it's also ultra vanilla, hence I don't even download it, let alone play it. I never tried being a DIK, Treasure of Nadia, etc. I need some darkness and/or nastiness in the AVNs I play.

Same!

Anything Daz is off the board. If it's anime style 3D I'm kind of ok with it, but understand the sex parts are going to look real weird and are probably best to skip. :ROFLMAO:

Some AI is good but the majority is not.

Lesbian stories/games/etc are kind of crappy too.

I felt the same way about a book series for years. Rave reviews, everyone loved it, video raves on youtube and other places, etc. etc. But the blurb and cover art just didn't jump out at me. Finally, when I just had nothing to read due to whatever reason, I bit the bullet and read it. It's now in my top 5 for the genre. Sometimes, for whatever reason, the public ad stuff just misses, but there there's usually a reason that so many people like it.

I can't say that I don't love them because I never download them, but when I feel a game is hugely successful, I assume it's also ultra vanilla, hence I don't even download it, let alone play it. I've never, ever understood how a person can be so counter-culture that their stance becomes "people like it so I'll hate it." This is a pretty universal thing. I've watched bands lose loyal fans because they grew in popularity and the people decided that the band was now a sell out. Makes no damn sense.

All the generic incest harem slop, Radiant in particular sticks out for its awful writing.

Friends in Need - Unlikable leads (imo) drag this one down.

Hillside - Did not care for 3/4 of its' love interests

Leap of Faith - Don't dislike this one, but people talk about it like it cured their cancer, or saved their marriage, when it is just alright at best.

Summer Heat. A whole lot of hype for a whole lot of nothing. Proof positive that so long as you have quality renders and cute girls, people won't care about anything else. Basic setting? Don't care. Glacial plot progression? Don't care. Slow updates? Don't care.

I'd second Dreamland but I honestly doubt "everybody" loves it.

Hmm, let's sort the Downloads page by weighted rating and see if I have any hot-takes in my pocket...

Being a DIK - Played the original 4 parts years ago, back when I thought it was completed. Only to get a really lackluster 'to be continued', and the game has never stopped updating. Like, when is the dude going to fucking graduate and the story actually gets to finish? Also since then I've become less and less interested in horny dipshit teenagers as protagonists, so I'm not sure I'll actually come back if it ever does finish.

Project: Passion - The creator's prior work, After the Inferno, was so incredibly mid. Like 'babies first fantasy short story after they read Tolkien' levels of mediocrity. Gave zero fucks about checking out their current project, because nobody improves enough to get themselves out of that deep of a hole that quickly.

Race of Life - This is a game built around racing, and almost every time the writer talks about cars they say something horrendously ignorant and wrong. Not understanding how hydraulic brakes work, talking about 'cowling' on a motorcycle that demonstrably has none (it's a café racer, literally a naked bike without any bodywork), pontificating about that 'rear engine European sportscar' that is clearly a front engine American Shelby Cobra, and on and on and on...

Stray Incubus - A really boring juvenile hero's journey. While I tend to like Honey Select games, this one is sub-par in the render department. Filled with unfunny jokes and a truckload of anime tropes, and it doesn't have the writing chops to be charming enough to make up for it, let alone make me care about any of the 'characters'.

Moonripple Lake - Gen-AI slop managed to crack the 2nd page, which is certifiable proof that nobody here has any taste, and when humanity inevitably faces extinction we will have earned it...

Reminds me of the lyrics from a song that have always stuck with me.

Rebellion done for it’s own sake
Does not a true free thinker make
To go against for it’s own sake
You’re still controlled by the course that the other man takes

TL;DR - Reflexive contrarianism is for clowns.

errm, well, I don't "shit on DAZ", it's just not for me, VRoid/ Blender/ whatnot would probably be of the same effect for me - but the "not a single game" applies to me, too. Not that i acknowledge you having any authority as to what we may or not write here.

Kamidori Alchemy Meister.
and that is I even like (sometimes) the annoying gameplay. But, without going complete why I despise it, because that would only bring up too much annoyance on my own side and then it'd be yet another night without sleep

You may have come across games that made you think "writer/s obviously never had a meaningful talk with a female human"
Kamidori takes a step up as in "writers obviously have never had any meaningful interaction with any human at all."
I particularly remember a scene where MC (male) has a "night out" with (male) who probably was the only one at alchemy school who did not bully/ beat him up ... they go to some pub, have a beer, and I had my toothnails come off from the cringe that the ensuing "dialogue" produced.
Moreover, them disgustroids from Eushully actually dared to present this disaster as "and that's how a REAL MEN's FRIENDSHIP goes! Hach, so peak, so great writing, we're moved to tears!" when actually it was what to the day, should I ever meet a Kamidori writer, I'd feel totally justified - and morally obligated - to inmediately kick them in their shambles. again and again. until they promise to never ever write anything again.

And the most astonishing thing is: they actually had good decent writers. Himegari has a working story, convincing characters (all in the silly department, of course) and generally making sort of sense, in its own world.
That game has other problems - as in MUCH too rape-y, and starting with much too underage-y character for my liking, but that did not keep the writing from being of (mostly) good quality. so much it made itself noticeable even through the MTL. even character/gameplay inter-influence.

and yes, there would be MUCH more to bring up regarding Kamidori's shittiness ... but I leave it here
