Games in portrait rather than landscape?

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this? A game where you turn your laptop on its side or lock your tablet's rotation and position it vertically.

I had the idea after seeing previews for https://f95zone.to/threads/secret-summer-ch-2-superwriter.35119/ , where the vast majority of each image seems to be wasted horizontal space:

It seems to me that portrait-oriented images could really focus on the female characters, making them come metaphorically to life.

Has anyone explored this in a game? if so, where?

Are there drawbacks to this approach that haven't occurred to me?

So what if you play on a desktop? And how are you supposed to play with your laptop turned sideways?

It could work for a phone game I suppose, but otherwise it sounds wierd.

You might think the space around the characters are wasted space, but it's actually very important. It provides depth to an image which gives the viewer's eyes the ability to rest and prevents the viewer from feeling claustrophobic. It's also very disorienting to play in portrait mode with the background changing a lot. Just watch a few snapchat porn videos where girls move the phone around a lot. No being able to see more of the background so you can focus on something will make you sick.

The background tell more thing like place time mood
I agree that it don’t need to be in land scape
But it is the first market for porn games for now
Unless google play and Ios accepts porn game in there store
There vertical game will need to wait
Still there are japanese game on dlsite dmm and nutaku
They got their store outside those
But the western will need to wait
Until the moral law change…

Yes some have tried this. There's few games screened this way, and they feel really weird to play.

There's a reason why computer monitors, as well as TV, past from a ratio to 4:3 to one of 16:9, and not to a ratio corresponding to a portrait orientation.
The advantage of a landscape orientation is that it correspond to the field of view, and therefore you can effectively focus your attention on the game without too much efforts. But with a portrait orientation, you'll end with either parts of the content outside of your field of view, or "parasite" information inside it. Therefore you'll be easily (this being variable and depending of your natural attention spawn) distracted, which will prevent you to effectively feel interested by the game.

Is there really this much people playing on a device they can rotate ? And I don't count laptop owners among them, because it would be totally unplayable ; there's more people using a desktop and having the possibility to rotate their monitor, than people having a laptop they can rotate without problems.

There's no such a thing as wasted space, there's only available space and bad artists who don't use.
