I love both the gameplay flow and the harem style grabbing every pretty girl cuz we're here for eroge at the end of the day right? So something that fits either gameplay or harem would be great. But bro, Rance is the biggest prick in all of ero gaming

MC is a great person and every girl joins on her own accord after their country is taken over, and he's geniunely just trying to save the world.
Rance.. sounded good to me until I read the description. I love fights, I love enemies --> lovers, but the MC needs to be the good guy in all of this.
Also, the Meister games might fit. Just DONT PLAY HIMEGARI. I haven't tried them myself, but I've gotten recommended them and they look a lot like Eiyuu Senki.
All of these games are like, >50 hours by the way so you have a lot to get through

I did a quick search of the thread there, and there IS a vanilla option.
Paraphrased from memory, there's 3 routes that you can go- Vanilla (which you actually do just romance everyone), Corruption which is the trademark evil villain path, and then actually fully "what the hell is wrong with you" path where you just like, discard all the girls into an endless horde of monsters or something.
(searching up romance managed to yield... nothing, but searching consensual led me to like, the perfect comment for what I needed)

For a game that is largely inspired by Rance, but has the main character not quite be a total asshole all the time, I could suggest Harem Collector (posting the blackjack and hookers continuation thread since it had an update recently.)

Not normally what I use as a selling point, but one of the development guidelines was 'every harem girl's live either improves or stays the same when joining the hero's harem' (some of the girls have comfortable lives before and after they get Haremized) and has a bit of character development/arc since this is a single game and not a 20 part series where the main character has to stay the same the entire time.
I'm not sure what aspect of Rance turns you off, but I found him to be not really a character and was wildly unpredictable and capricious, while the main character of HC is a rather selfish asshole, but isn't a sadist (outside of sexual fun time) and can be actually nice to people, and warm up to people over time like he's not a sociopath.
With that said, they do a lot of asshole selfish things, including some rapes, non consensual enslavement, and other hijinks, just tend to be goal-oriented rather then 'lol lets ruin a hot women's life for the fans of that sort of thing'.
But outside of spanky sexy time, the hero treats his harem well and develops relationships with them, so it's not a parade of him just being abusive to everyone the way Rance is with Sil.
