Games that push the engine outside the box

Hello,

I'm interested in finding more games that take the engine they are built on, and significantly expand it.

A few games I've played, and supported, that do this:

-NLT games (RPGM)
-Holiday Island (RenPY)
-Straitened Times (RenPY)

In those case, there are many gameplay mechanics that are not found in most other games based on the same engine.

I'm interested in discovering more, and if you have favorite(s) that fits the criteria, by all means feel free to share it here.

Much obliged.

https://f95zone.to/threads/insight-of-you-v1-0-adventanyx.45441/ I've seen R'P games with the occasional animation awkwardly spliced in, but here's one that's almost entirely animated, and it's pretty fluid.

Some games that use RPGM in unorthodox ways, using a ton of custom code.

A survival game with a combat system.

The only VN I've seen on RPGM, has typical VN controls but definitely not as smooth as R'P.

I'm not grumpy, I'm just coded that way.

None of those two expand Ren'Py, far from it. There's hundreds of Ren'Py games using the same game mechanisms, pushing them more or less far.

If you want games that actually expand Ren'Py, it's Lust Hunter and Sakura Dungeon, among few others, that you've to look.

I found it surprising that rpgm can do 3d games - not 3dcg but moving in 3d maps.

(does not have the one I had on mind but forgot the title)
-------------

and not so much "outside the box" but overloading an older rpgm engine with I guess lotsa "real-time" scripts for the relationships & wars & battles among all them factions: https://f95zone.to/threads/princess-conquest-v0-22-05-towerfag.602/

I played that years ago, and hear inbetween it has become even more unstable and laggy and whatnot because overload.
decent/ partly good midi sound (mouse tower), most horrible font ever. back in its early times the action-combat may have been "fresh" for rpgm.
-----------

also not some great gameplay, not interesting graphics, no story/characters, not a good game by any means, but interesting how you may not necessarily notice you are playing an rpgm game.

NLT does this with the rpgm games, no pixelated messes, linear story and exploration with easy backtracking and a proper map system and good puzzle elements

As for non adult games, kojima's decima engine is a revolutionary engine

Here's a couple oldies:

I think Violated Heroine (banned on this forum; never finished) was pushing the capabilities of RPG Maker 2000 back in the day.

Then there's (never finished) on RPG Maker VX.
