Genesis 9 is Coming

Took another look at the Genesis 9 figure.
One thing I do like is they fixed the rigging around the shoulders. Now it doesn't look like ass when a figure has their arms behind their back.
I also like how they got rid of the face surface and made a head that goes down to the collarbone. The difference in texture quality on Genesis 8 between the face and neck was fucking terrible. (8.1 fixed that too, but an extra set of maps just led to more GPU bloat.)
Also there's a button for "Developer Tools"? Not sure if that's something we're supposed to see, or if they just left that in there by mistake.

how does genesis 9 compare to genesis 8 when it comes to posing? for example in more "extreme" positions, does genesis 9 look better and more natural than genesis 8? genesis 8 quickly had strange folds in the mesh that had to be removed manually.
if this was not improved then the only real benefit i see with genesis 9 is the doubled mesh size. it means we can create better and more detailed morphs.

I'm a complete beginner in Daz, don't know about body textures but my understanding was poses, clothes, hair for example won't fit right on 8.1 without manual tweaking or using third-party transfer utilities that fix it right for you
Again, I'm a noob though and thus can be completely wrong here in that

8.1 is the exact same model as 8.0, so most everything works fine. Some products have metadata issues, which you need to fix with Scene Identification, but they're still 100% compatible.
A few things that don't work are expressions and Powerpose (due to the new facial rig) and geoshells (due to the renamed torso/neck surfaces). There's some hacks you can use to make them work, but I don't use 8.1 so I never bothered to learn what they are.
Even Gen3 clothes, hair etc will auto fit on Gen8 and Gen8.1 (so will Gen2 mostly, they look shit thought, too old)

Ah okay that's good to know! I will have to see then about using 8.1 but you did mention powerpose and I use that tool quite a lot to tweak the poses or do posing outright manually when I need to
How do you pose 8.1 then without powerpose? As even preset poses often need adjustments to work right for the scene and all that I do with powerpose

I think Powerpose for the body works, just not for the face. It's about the same as Genesis 3 where the face template only lets you control the eyes.
If I absolutely need to pose something in Daz Studio, then I select the bone in the viewport and either move the property slider or use the rotation tool. But I do 99.9% of my posing in Blender. I keep it open with the exported figure loaded, and if I need to make a correction frankly I'd rather than just do it in Blender and export a new pose preset. It's faster and more accurate than posing in Daz Studio. The only posing I do in Daz anymore is the facial expressions, because I'm so used to Powerpose.
I wouldnt even know how to use powerpose (I have never used it), I just grab them buy the body part and move it and/or use the parameters tab

Basically you click on a dot and drag your mouse to rotate a limb. It's a little better than just using sliders since it's controlled by your gestures.
My guesses re impact:
1. First games to use these won't come until later next year, after enough morphs are developed for them
2. The quality of art in games will improve year over year until peaking around 2025 or so.
3. Skin textures for this will ultimately be better looking than for G8, due to higher number of vertices.
4. G10--?2025-2027? G11--2030-2032? G12--2035?
5. By G12 or equivalent we will have the base character looking photorealistic out of the box. Of course, the GPUs in use at the time will need 1500 watts to render...

Very personal opinion, but I find the Genesis 9 surface system horrible 
It's not that I don't like to use L.I.E.s from time to time, but it's a pain in the ass when it's everywhere. It's long to load, long to modify, long to find the good layer, almost impossible to fine tune the colorimetry of a detail (Try to slightly darken eye shadows and slightly lighten lipstick now or try to modify the irises... Before, it was easy...), etc.
And I don't know where they doubled the number of vertexes, but it's certainly not in the chest area

So, the only noteworthy new feature is that the G9 is unisex? Which, as already noted, will likely make Daz3D chug horribly once you've created a large morph library.
I was hoping for some sort of dForce skin system or at least integrated dForce breasts & hips, given that third-parties have made those add-ons years ago now (but I can never seem to get them to work well).

Daz3d are desperately trying to avoid pandering to the porn game dev market. That's why they wasted dev resources on a fucking NFT generator, MetaMixer, that absolutely nobody who actually uses their product asked for. I don't think advanced breast physics are in the cards.
And anyway, what good are breast physics if you can't pose/animate for shit?
They want their program to look professional, but as long as they put off improving the things that actually matter it'll forever look like an amateurish piece of garbage.

But in reality everyone will be stuck with DAZ because it's easy.
Quality wise, i think quality is really good. Even with 8 and perhaps 3. But posing or expressions are really hard and most of the ones you can buy looks actually pretty comical.
So there goes the realism.
There are some good apps for breast physics. So i am not sure if this had to be build in. Maybe that would be to much to ask for. It appears to be that anything sexual is forbidden on their forum. Wonder why they sell the genitals in the first place.

There's no contradiction there. They ban nudity on their forums because it's a business website publicly accessible from Google. The genitals are downloaded by paying customers. Obviously they're not going to have a bunch of NSFW images hosted on their site where the public can see them.
I have recently stumbled upon this thread out of curiosity to see what people think of Genesis 9.
I think that somehow they are making a few mistakes, going further with genesis 9. One of them is that they aren't fixing actual issues with the program and the second is that as you go higher with the model, and require more resources, it beats the purpose of Daz. I mean, the program should be seen as a somehow easy incursion into 3D content creation. That means that it should address people that don't have specs that rival those from Pixar.
And there is also the issue with Genesis 8.1. Why does it exist if they planned Genesis 9?! There wasn't any other model with a .1 version. I can't see it in any way other than a money grab.

I am just honestly wondering if DAZ has a monopoly on easy 3D creation or is there any other software? Don't they have some form of competition?

Genesis 8.1 came out in January 2021. That was 21 months ago. We don't know when they planned G9, so it might've been in response to its failings.
8.1 had a .1 because it was the same model with some improved UVs and weight mapping, neither of which interfere with adding content. Pretty much all 8.0 assets work on it with no issues. The numbering is pretty accurate.
Daz Studio has competition. They started out as an asset broker for Poser, which is still around. There's also Character Creator 4, among others.
CC4 seems like it's geared towards actual professionals, in the way Daz3d is trying and failing to be. Regardless of Daz3d's wishes, they have a huge market of porn game assets sold on Renderotica, so they're just where the action is.
